Commissioner Bob Inspects Akwa Ibom Airport, Ahead Of April Deadline by imMannerPhilipz(op): 3:43am On Feb 13
COMMISSIONER BOB INSPECTS A’IBOM AIRPORT, AS APRIL DEADLINE FOR INT'L FLIGHTS DRAWS NEARER

‎The Akwa Ibom State Supervisory Commissioner for Special Duties and Ibom Deep Seaport, Mr. Emem Almond Bob, has again assured of the State's readiness to begin international flight operations at the Victor Attah International Airport at the beginning of the second quarter of the year.

‎The Commissioner spoke Thursday, after leading a delegation from the Ministry on an inspection tour of the entire airport facility.

‎The inspection covered critical infrastructure and operational areas, including the access road within the terminal building, parking lot, apron, taxiway, security / operational perimeter fencing, Smart Internet installation, as well as the power transmission and transformer area and medium voltage power panels, among others.

‎Bob, who earlier had a strategic technical meeting with all contractors and engineers on site to appraise the level of work done, said with the smooth pace of work, he was very optimistic that the April timeline would be met.

‎He noted that the Governor was very committed to delivering the world class facility for international use within the stipulated timeframe, noting that the current level of progress gives confidence that the April timeline for international operations will be achieved.

‎Commisioner Bob explained that as the supervising ministry in charge of the actualization of the new international airport terminal, it was within their oversight to regularly have a technical meeting with all the contracting firms to assess their quality of work and identify existing gaps.

"As a ministry, we are here today to  inspect and assess key operational areas, identify infrastructure gaps, and ensure timely interventions to guarantee a seamless take-off of international flights," the Commissioner stated

‎Responding to questions from the media on whether the Committee on the Actualization of the Airport would visit the facility before the inaugural flight, the Commissioner explained that the Committee, headed by the Secretary to the State Government, was actively working.

‎He noted that his presence at the site was in his capacity as the Supervisory Commissioner of the Ministry and assured that meetings would be convened as necessary to address areas of concern, adding that inspections would continue up to the very last day before the commencement of international operations at the airport.

‎Taking the Commissioner around all components of the new terminal building, the Chairman of VKS Construction, Engr. Oliver Ebong highlighted that works were ongoing in all the areas requiring urgent attention to ensure full completion of the facility and assured that the terminal would be ready for use by the end of March.

‎Recall that Governor Umo Eno had inaugurated a committee headed by the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah to oversee the full implementation of the international status of the Victor Attah International Airport, following a technical assessment visit by a Federal Government team led by the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN,  to commence  the process of giving effect to the international operations at the airport.

‎On the inspection were, the Permanent Secretary, Special Duties. Engr. Ephraim Udosen; Managing Director, Airport Development Authority, Uwem Ekanem, Director of Project Implementation and Coordination, Arc. Ekawan Alale; Director of Geo-Technical Services, Mrs. Helen Daniel; Clark works for the Terminal Building, Arc. Christopher Enyekung among others.

Good development. Akwa-Ibom is trying when it comes to infrastructure.

States like Rivers and Bayelsa ought to be London if not corruption

Nice job. Ibom Air has a new home. The state government should invest in aircraft servicing and maintenance facility, with plans to explore how to plug into the entire airline business value chain.

All these governors don't have ideas. Tinubu is just wasting federal allocations on them.

Despite the humongous amount they get every month from the center all they do is to build airports or renovate airports.

What stops them from doing intra city rail. Connect the major local government in your state by rail.

It will boost development and agric.

All these airports don't really have any major importance to the wider citizen. How many of them dey use am?

State government should focus on things like pipeborne water, world class healthcare, technical colleges and agriculture. These are project that will have greater impact on the citizen.

Is the state also trying when it comes to employing well paid workers to make government services and public utilities available to everyone?

If not for corruption in Akwa Ibom state, should every child not be in free schools like they are in London?

Free schools with adequate quality facilities and enough well paid professional teachers and other staff!

Do you know if the Akwa Ibom governor has employed as many as 19,500 teachers like Makinde did in just five years of being governor huh

Enough of this airport noise. Attention should be moved towards completion of Ibom Deep Seaport. Gov. Umo Eno should not take Akwa Ibom people for granted. That was his promise before he defected to APC. That's what we want.

Like seriously I'm tired...

This international something they r wasting money won't work esp considering the domineering nature of some tribes...

Instead of working on the actualisation of the ibom deepsea port, settle the rift that's on ground esp now that the number 2 citizen is from oron nation, make them understand the benefits they stand to gain once the seaport is birth, instead they r using uyo to kano to abuja to get to Calabar...

Akpabio that obidients are insulting now built the new Akwa Ibom and remains the best governor in the history of that state. They even try to compare Akpabio with the clown who made a mad man his Special adviser on Security .

Most of those airports are not economically viable. Enugu Airport was serving Ebonyi State well but Ebonyi Government decided to build their own, now they are operating at loss.

Many people in Anambra State prefer to use Asaba Airport instead of Anambra Airport because of proximity, security and high passenger usage.

misplaced priorities , international flights to where? gabon, cameroon ,ghana or other west african countries? what's the passenger traffic to these routes? the game changer for this airport was the MRO facility and this is what the government should have pursued vigorously in collaboration with international partners but three administration and more than twenty-four years later , its still not completed just like the siphon pipe ibom deep sea port which was conceptualised long before the lekki deep sea port but the latter has since been completed and put into use while ibom deep sea port is still on paper.
Bakkassi deep seaport would soon kick off construction and government is still using it to hoodwink the public to the extent of having a Commissioner designated for it with other portfolio.
Aside road construction, akwa ibom is poorly managed and the only industry that thrives there is sycophancy and bring down syndrome.

Are you sure that you're from Akwa Ibom? Most of the Ibibio people that I know have good things to say about progress in that state. The only bad thing that I see is the current governor defecting to APC, which I though was a crummy thing to do.
