Russia isn't stupid. They've experienced dollar weaponization and SWIFT weaponization, at great cost.

They're not going to abandon their BRICS plans and their ongoing lucrative trade with China and Iran, even if they engage in some dollar trade as well.

Amazing how U.S. people leap to the insane conclusion that all of a sudden Russia is going to trust the U.S. dollar system again.

You people fail to understand when the Russians are trolling the US or playing the long-term game. This reminds me of the Davos Peace Accord wherein Trump asked each member country to donate to the reconstruction of Gaza. What did Putin do? He responded by saying they welcome such development. But such a donation should be taken from interest on the Russian frozen reserve in Western banks. That's a classic way to troll with a straight face. To do this, you have to unfreeze these reserves.
Then, I don't know what people expect to happen really in the case of normalisation of relations between Washington and Moscow.

Beijing and Moscow conduct trades in their local currencies. So are New Delhi and Moscow. Russian reserves are in Western currencies. The Rubble for Gaz framework still exists. Russian trade between the two blocs will be settled in this way. The Rubble for Russia commodities. Then vice versa. Russia can then offshore these dollar holdings around the world effortlessly. Saudi Arabia can play such a good host.
Remember when China issued US bonds in Saudi Arabia in late 2024? Such an environment still exists.

Another thing people seem to be losing sight of is that the BRICS proposal isn't to completely displace the USD. No! It rather proposes a basket of currencies for trade settlement. That way, you can have a balanced system where not one currency is the principal means of settlement. So we will end up with a decentralised framework.
