Hello all, greetings to you all from wherever you are. My present condition is pushing me to take a hard decision that I am not sure of what the outcome will be like. I have been without a job for a while now after losing the previous and living in a hard economy like Nigeria without a job, it's better imagined than experience. It's hell. It's hard and very hard on me. I have been putting in efforts to secure a new job but to no avail as at today.
Lagos - the land of opportunities
I don't have a brother, sister, cousin, relative or anyone staying in Lagos, neither am I with any money to rent an apartment but I want to leave where I am currently and move to Lagos in search of employment with no specific place in mind.

Note: I haven't been to Lagos before. So this will be my first time...a total stranger

My motivation is that I shouldn't die in one place while they may be opportunities for me out there. I should make move and that move can be the game changer. One can meet people outside whom he doesn't relate in anyway and get help. So I believe there's someone out there who can help me secure a job. Employment is going on everyday in this country but if you don't have someone to fix you, it's as if you are non-existing, wasting away your youthful years.

I have a National Diploma and first degree with some certifications and relevant skills.

Like I said, the outcome of the decision is unpredictable as I have no knowledge about Lagos terrain.
Please, I need your brotherly advice. Should I move to Lagos even when I don't have anywhere to stay or I should bury the thought, since the street is hostile out there? I fear for my life too. What would you advise me?

First degree

Certifications:
HSE 1, 2 & 3.
Project management

Relevant skills:
Computer literate
Good in writing
Good in sales and marketing
Video editing
Social media management (which I can work remotely)

God help me. I can't continue like this.

Yes there are jobs in Lagos but house rent is really mad.

And yes the streets are hostile in Lagos,so many tough and strong faces everywhere,foul air and pollution everywhere you go.

Move to Lagos ,you can locate a church on the island and plead with the pastor to allow u stay for the period u need to find ur feet while u assist by helping clean the church premises on weekends. With dedication u should get a job no matter how small it is for a start. The idea is to start first, u can grow from there bro.

Moving to Lagos will be hard I no go lie for you especially if you want to make it legally.

Start from where you dey invest in knowledge based business and in 2 years you'll have more money than someone who work for money.

You can learn about keeping chickens naturally here on nairaland.

How do I get that? I'm not getting replies from my application.

Let me give u one sure update.... If u apply it well you'll get a job in less than 2 months...

Look for any big Christ Embassy church around u, fellowship with them, identify as a first timer, join their cell group, tell them that u are jobless... Believe me u will get a job...

I'm not a member of their church, but when it comes to helping each other, they are number one, as long as u are genuine, u will get a job... Even if it's a security job... U can start from there... A friend of mine that is doing security in one of their church is collecting 130k per month... And he works just 2 weeks in a month

This move is too risky in my opinion. People still travel to Lagos with just one sack and slippers but its not an experience you would wish on your enemy especially if you currently have a roof over your head and relatives that can spot you some cash you whenever you are in dire need.

I've heard stories of people who roll in to lagos homeless and hustle on the streets and in the markets until they find their feet but this takes a lot of perseverance. With your well spoken english, I hope you can adjust to that life.

My advice would be for you to use what you have wherever you are. Use the internet, drop ship deals in your state, there's always a big market in every state. When you have some savings that can sustain your accomodation and feeding for a few months, you can then emabrk on your lagos journey.
