Garri - The Secret to the Most Underated But Pocket Friendly Food by Ortintin(op):
I used to drink garri while growing up but caught it off my menu when i became mature. And even for years all through my university and a decade of working i rarely soak it - but last two years things took a great dip for me and i had to work in this chinese company where most workers supplement food is garri. It wasn't long before i fell in love with it again and i discovered a great reduction in the money i spent on food thereby giving me the chance to save a little even from my meagre salary then.

This now became clear to me how our parents were able to feed us before the millennium without breaking a sweat since we do soak it when we got back from school.

As a parent or individual with moderate income, you should never take garri off the list of the family menu since not only is it the easiest to prepare even for your kids but it's pocket friendly and highly economical.

Ofcourse i do not take it everyday just as i do not eat rice, beans and other variance everyday but moderately.

Do you know of any other food often underated but pocket friendly?

Gari soaking was never on my list of foods, as ma would rather we go cut ewedu we grew and make eba with it. Her logic was, the ewedu is the nutrient while the gari was sawdust.

I did get a passion for it one time though, when Aregbe refused to pay salary and I couldn't eat while others starved. I ended up losing a whole 8kg! But that might be because I only took 2 spoonfuls of gari from the woman who roasted it outside my house despite her wanting to give me a kongo. Had to explain to her that it was my replacement for Schweppes Bitter Lemon, ₦50 at the time, and not for hunger alleviation.

People think its a poor man's food, but forgot that even with all the procedures it will pass to finally become garri, it still retains its fibre, almost still a whole-food.

I guess because of the hygiene that make customers to abandon it and go for other swallows.
