Are they the "best" because they have consistently been on top national and international educational competitions and exams, or simply because they are the most expensive? |

Best in what? Paying bogus school fees or what? |

Op just say the top 10 most expensive schools. Expensive doesn't always mean best |

Just because they are expensive doesn't mean they are the best.... Best environment? yes, Best teachers? debatable, Best students? you are having a laugh |

What makes them the best? Hope you know that the school fee of a school is not a cateria to justify how good a school is. |

The level of bullying that goes in those schools are abysmal and not worth it if you really love your child. It's equivalent of children sending their parents to an elderly home. |
| Re: 10 Best Secondary Schools In Lagos (2025/2026) by ProfGday(m): 7:32pm On Jan 21 |
You are wrong in referring to these schools as the best in Lagos without any academic achievements. They are only most expensive schools and nothing much. |

Kaczynski:Forreal? Abeg share more please. My sister wants to send her quiet child to one of them. How bad is the bullying? I heard even Charterhouse had a bullying problem recently |
| Re: 10 Best Secondary Schools In Lagos (2025/2026) by Kaczynski: 2:12am On Feb 14 |
Onegai:In a regular school, a bully wants your lunch money. in an school like grange, madow hall or LBI, the bullies are the children of the powerful. they have been told since birth that they are demi gods and that everyone else is service staff. they don't just hit, they destroy. they don't want your money, they already have more than you, they just want your submission. most especially the school doesn't stop the bullying because the fundraisers of so the school are literally the parents of the bullies, in one of PTA i attended in place for my niece at green springs, one of the parents of the bully slapped another parent of the bullied simply because they were insisting that their kid was a bully. a child in these environments is like a lamb that wandered into a wolf sanctuary. the wolves aren't going to befriend the lamb, they are going to test their teeth on it. if your sister sends her child there, she isn't being a good parent, she is being an accomplice to her child trauma. she is feeding her child to the offspring of the nouveau riche so she can brag to her friends about the school logo on her child's blazer. If he is like clifford from my bodyguard 1980 , he will be eaten alive in any school where who is your father?' is the primary question. tell her to save the millions of naira, put him in a school like deeper life or loyola where he can actually breathe or she can send him there and watch him get deleted in real time. |

Kaczynski:Thanks for this. Omo, I cannot believe Greensprings let that happen! I've seen a similar issue with some primary schools in Lekki: everyone was paying the same school fees but some were favorites because they were friends with the Proprietor. Human Nature always finds a way to corrupt everything. Loyola and several top schools allegedly had a substance abuse issue with some kids because Nigeria is awash with substance abuse. And it has become a school for rich kids in Abuja, so they may start seeing those issues too. There isn't a cheap Catholic school anywhere in Nigeria, fees are at least N1mil per annum now. My sister wasn't picking those schools for names tbh (nobody cares about that because it's dumb, after all Abacha, Ojukwu, Igbinedion and Abiola were once names that commanded clout, but where are they now ), we were looking at the best way to get the child prepared for school abroad. Greensprings mentioned their alumni doing well abroad and has a reputation for being a good STEM school.I've never heard of Deeper Life college. What you're saying has merit, but at the same time there's some challenges to being the kids above the rest of the students' social standing. I learned it the hard way myself and with my kids (the Primary school my kids go to, I could have sworn we were all of the same financial standing as it's the most expensive school around, but the kids picked up on the fact that my kids have foreign accents and seem to have a different lifestyle than theirs and it's been 2-3 years of unfriendliness. It didn't help that they're academically on top as well). |

Only Loyola Jesuit has produced more stellar grads than the others. For those who want their children to be grounded in mathematics, stick to Catholic schools. Globally, Catholic Schools are generally strong in math pedagogy. |

Onegai:I'm not sure where you got this information from but Loyola Jesuit has never had any substance abuse problem. Loyola is very tightly controlled. You step a foot out of line, you're expelled. No questions Saying Loyola "has now become a school for the rich". Loyola was 200,000 naira in 1996 when it started. It was over 1 million 15 years ago. It is now well over 6 million. It has always been that school to attract the best and brightest children from across the country. Do you know the former Governor of Kano state and APC chairman (Ganduje) had kids there in the 2000s and 2010s. Likewise, Oshiomole (former APC chairman and Edo State governor), Rochas Okorocha (former Imo state governor), Adamu (former Nasarawa state governor), Oni (former Ekiti state governor), Abike Dabiri, Patrick Utomi (Labor Party presidential candidate), Dieziani Madueke (former petroleum minister) and several senators and prominent politicians. Ambassadors as well (Umboimobhi - nigerian ambassador to switzerland) and so forth. My point is, Loyola has consistently being one of the most disciplined schools in the country yet they've never had corporal punishments from the start - no flogging or cutting grass etc. They place more graduates into top (ivy league) universities in the US than any other school and they are still the most selective secondary school in the country. They hold the record for the best American College Test results (the first perfect score in west africa in the test), the best SAT results, the best JAMB result more times than any other school (the most recent, Eyinmofe Adebayo in 2022 who is now at MIT, and highest number of WAEC 'firsts' after Lumen Christi in Uromi in Edo state. When cowbellpedia was a thing, they produced the only student to top cowbellpedia in the junior and senior categories. As at 2020, well over 80 percent of every graduating class schools in the US, UK or Canada. Not sure what the stat is now Did I also mention it is arguably the most diverse school in the country? As at 2020, they had students representing 28 states in the federation. More than half of the school (about 400 of a total of 600 students) live in Lagos, Portharcourt, Enugu, Benin, Kaduna, Kano) and a good number of Nigerian parents that sent their kids from Abroad (UK, US, Canada, even Angola and South Africa) The icing on the cake is, you NEED to go on linked In and see where their Alum are working, several are at Google, Facebook (Meta), Amazon, Microsoft, the big 4, Mckinsey/BCG/Bain, Deutsche Bank etc. Many hold MBAs from Dartmouth Tuck, Harvard, Stanford, Chicago Booth etc You may take a look at their wikipedia page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loyola_Jesuit_College. I guess you need to be certain about what you post before you post. I have no idea what goes on in other schools |

Centrix:Thank you for whatever this was. But I am unmoved by this, because I can tell you about schools that have outperformed all of this. My kids' school, they use my kids to boast about Academic prowess. They won't tell you it is because of their parents' background and efforts (I'm in the education sector and allow me to say, if you saw the program I run for my children at home, you'll wonder why I still bother sending them to a physical school). I see that a lot with several schools. My nephew went to Loyola. The student that had the issue, it was from the medical person (who wanted to send her child there) that found out. Loyola and every Catholic school is tightening their grip, same as other schools. But it's not enough until they can whoop parents in the butt ![]() Human beings are human beings o Nigeria has a problem, a societal problem. And one single place cannot outrun a societal problem, that's like saying Nigerians who are corrupt in Nigeria suddenly become saints because they work in your company in Nigeria (even abroad with stringent conditions, they still try to game the system). But thank you again for this very long profile for the school. |

Gerrard59:Catholic schools are good at traditional subjects like Math and English in general but that won't cut it when they leave Nigeria. And almost every school in Nigeria is poor in Science. (In my opinion, the top school in Nigeria for Math is Graceland Port Harcourt, the Head of Academics runs a good program). I wish I could share more of what I do but I want to stay anonymous here. I'm in the industry and I always tell parents: "it's up to you, you can push my efforts but if you don't push my efforts, your kids won't excel". My nephews and nieces attended the top Grammar schools in the UK and I know how much effort was due to their mother being a private tutor for other kids trying to achieve that same goal. My anger at private schools in Nigeria is not really Academics (though e dey, Science is rubbish here). It stems from the fact that there is no discipline. My generation (I'm telling upon my age here ), in trying to be different, more loving and Western-oriented than their parents, are ruining their kids. Kids are shitty at the Teenage stage and Naija kids are bullying and pressuring each other about who is using the most expensive iPhone. Why are you spending that much on a phone, for a kid? What are you teaching them about Finances, contentment, delayed gratification, entitlement, working hard to earn stuff? What nonsense is "I can afford to give them that as a parent, mind your business!". Why are we spoiling these kids? |

Centrix If you take the 1% of families in every country and send their kids to the most expensive schools in the country, and are able to afford to pay for good tutoring, extra-curriculars and the perfect Ivy League coach to get them into top universities. And top companies in the world usually go to top universities to hire. So though it's good, I'm not impressed by all that. Because that's like saying you trained a talented athlete with the top coaches, the best nutrition and the perfect system and they went on to win medals at the Olympics. What did you expect would happen, biko? Impress me with the kids who went to Government Comprehensive, Mushin, struggled to eat twice a day yet still ended up at Google or a tech firm in Shenzhen or doing research at Imperial College. Don't show me a well-trained horse and then ask me to applaud because it is doing exactly what was expected to do. (PS: it's easy for me to figure out you're a former staff there Before you japa, please consider staying in Nigeria and offering your services to one of the new schools in Lagos who are serious. I may know of one or two).Have a blessed day🖖 |

Onegai:You said: "I can show you schools that outperform this". My response is: "SHOW ME". I'm also in Education too. The AMERICAN EMBASSY IN NIGERIA literally acknowledged Loyola as producing the first perfect ACT score in West Africa in 2020 in this post: https://web.facebook.com/watch/?v=595873024494921%2F You say other schools are doing this, I'm speaking about recognized standardized tests WAEC, JAMB, SAT, ACT not small competitions here and there that showcase one or two students I have attached a screen shot of their JAMB performance. For someone in Education, show me a school where 89 students write JAMB and only 4 students score below 300. If a student was 85th position of 89 in class, they still had a score above 300. That record is unmatched anywhere! You say you can simply train a student for the Ivys. NOT TRUE. SATs are a test of IQ. As with every IQ test, you can train the child to attain their maximum attainable score (essentially the max score their intelligence can help them attain). College Board (the makers of the SAT) state that the test has been designed to ensure students scores correlate with their actual abilities regardless of the number of times they take the test. Ivy leagues accept only the best (if you're not a wealthy legacy donor) and their average acceptance scores are always VERY high. Extracurriculars don't carry nearly as much weight with international admissions. Coincidentally, speaking of Ivy league entry (for wealthy often white applicants), this Guardian US article was authored by a Loyola Jesuit Alum: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2021/nov/17/harvard-university-students-smart-iq I have also attached a screenshot of the last full WAEC ranking ever produced. WAEC was courted by private schools to stop producing rankings because it was affecting their businesses apparently. If you are told that Loyola has produced the best JAMB and WAEC more times than any other school and you still claim there are schools that have better records. Drop them here. LET'S SEE THEM You claim your Nephew went to Loyola, yet you did not know that Loyola fees were well over 1 million since 2010! Miss me with that If you know about Loyola, and if you read the wiki, you'd know Loyola is not your typical catholic school (because you seem to be generalizing a lot). This school was built and run largely by American Jesuit priests up until 2010 when they handed over. At the time, you had professors from Jesuit universities in their teaching staff. The President, Fr Pat Ryan, was the one time Vice President (Chancellor) of one of the biggest universities in New York, Fordham University (where Donald Trump and Denzel Washington went to univ) and a former lecturer at Harvard. Loyola has pedigree. I'm not speaking about other Jesuit schools in Nigeria. This is specifically about Loyola Jesuit College. I call the drug thing BS. First off, if a child was abusing drugs at home for whatever reason and other parents knew about it, the school would have heard, and that child is not stepping Campus. A school that expelled the daughter of a sitting northern Governor in 2012 for simply having a cell phone on campus in 2012, you don't know the half of it. Finally, there's a reason why every year over 2500 kids from across Nigeria and outside sit for their entrance exam to have only 100 students accepted (That's less than a 5 percent acceptance rate). Parents know what they are looking for, Entry is only in JS 1. There are no day students and they don't accept transfers into any other classes.

Onegai And sure while Graceland is excellent at Math based on competitions as in the last Math for life competition (https://www.vanguardngr.com/2025/03/national-mathematics-tournament-graceland-international-school-emerges-winner/) where Graceland came tops and Loyola came second, I try not to use competitions as a basis for judging that because they tend to showcase one or two shining stars. I use general performance of every student in a cohort in external exams and standardized tests. Thats a better measure of academic prowess if you had followed this competition closely, you'd have noticed one Graceland student, of their two representatives, answered over 99 percent of the questions they were asked. |

Centrix:Thank for this well-detailed post. I have always known that Loyola Jesuit is good, but I did not know it is this brilliant. I have not bothered to dig into the numbers, but across the world, Catholic run schools tend to outperform other secular or even other denomination church-managed schools. It is not just the math pedagogy but the discipline that comes along. Even Catholic-run schools in Lagos, Kaduna and Anambra tend to do better than their competition in those various states. Loyola Jesuit wins based on consistency. I do hope they continue with the strict discipline. I have also attached a screenshot of the last full WAEC ranking ever produced. WAEC was courted by private schools to stop producing rankings because it was affecting their businesses apparently.lol ![]() Please, is this really true? https://www.nairaland.com/8184851/top-waec-scorers-2009-where Again, the list shows the dominance of schools managed by churches and specifically the Catholic Church. ![]() |

Centrix:I know that I have no leverage or stake in this, but it does not sit well with me that well-off Nigerians have strong opinions about racial issues in the West, especially the US and to an extent Canada. I find it somehow and especially laughable. Like, what do you know about racial issues in a society you are not culturally and historically part of? Then, you go on to write or have strong opinions on the topic, forgetting you come from a racially homogenous country that is the most populous Black nation. Well, she studied typical arts and humanities courses, so it's not surprising she has become a social justice warrior. Ndi Black Lives Matter, but not the ones in the most populous Black country. If you appoint her type to work in nation building, the country's life don spoil. I read the Guardian article and exactly what I thought of (see below): Black Africans being angry that affirmative action is removed because they are the biggest beneficiaries, rather than Black Africans, for whom it was meant. Now, Black Africans have to compete with East Asians for spots on merit rather than get an undue advantage because of their similar skin colour to that of African Americans. If affirmative action must be in place, African Americans, not Black Africans, should be the sole beneficiaries. That said, there are other elite/top rated universities aside from Harvard. For specific high-earning industries (see below), there are even courses at specific universities you can study to break into them. It must not be Harvard. Also, Caltech is a thoroughly good school. A one-time WASSCE highest scorer during the early 2000s did either her undergraduate or graduate degree there. Unfortunately, I cannot recall her name nor the article I read it. https://www.nairaland.com/8184851/top-waec-scorers-2009-where#131568209 https://www.bloomberg.com/news/features/2022-12-15/school-of-quant-at-29-000-an-nyc-college-outclasses-princeton?embedded-checkout=true |

Onegai:One thing I never do online is insult. Show me where I insulted you. I only said you made claims that are not adding up. The drug abuse, the nephew attending Loyola (especially being unaware of the fees. If my nephew/niece attended a school, I'd have an idea of what the fees are). I'm just wondering how "Mushin" and "not travelling abroad" ended up in this conversation Everything I've said is verifiable. Gerrard59 made a post about Top WAEC scorers in 2009 (17 years ago!) - Loyola still topped that list. Catholic schools in general do very well My point is Loyola students work their b*tts off to attain excellence My only contention with the school is that they do not publicize or advertise this excellence like others. They'd tell you their mission is primarily: Service of God and Others as reflected in their motto, so they try to teach their kids Love, service and respect for others (religion, tribe etc) |
| Re: 10 Best Secondary Schools In Lagos (2025/2026) by Onegai(f): 7:01pm On Mar 13 |
Gerrard59:I agree with this, but sadly in reality: they did not take advantage of DEI for themselves and let immigrants and 2nd gen immigrants and white women benefit from it. Because those guys sadly were the first "school na scam" believers. The society pushed sports and arts so much on them, it was crazy. And white society told them that was all they were good at. I'll give some examples: My sibling went somewhere and some kids were playing basketball. They looked at his car and started asking if he was a music producer or what sport he played. So he told them his job and every single one looked confused, because nobody, NOT one person in their entire community would study a course every Nigerian parent dreams of their kid doing. So if they didn't take advantage of scholarships for that course, Naija kids would take it. Same with my nephew: he moved from Loyola to an expensive private school internationally and the school started pushing him into sports more than academics. Then I realized that the same thing was happening in Canada and UK. One Naija- Brit lady made a reel about it and warned parents, because her mum had to push back at the school: "my daughter's grades are good, why do you keep suggesting she focuses on athletics?" (Trust Naija parents). Chris Rock summed it up: "I'm a top earning comedian yet my neighbor in my nice neighborhood is a white dentist". Sports and Entertainment are hard to break even in yet they keep pushing it onto Black Americans, meanwhile Africans are sharp enough to know it can be a trap. No. 70 on the ITF list isn't richer than the 200th best Surgeon in America. The saddest thing is that Sports and the Arts require crazy levels of talent and dedication but any sport or music genre dominated by mostly Black Americans is usually demeaned. Old school Hip-hop was poetry set to music but they struggled to be accepted. And yeah, just because a university is high ranked doesn't mean a particular program they run is high-ranked: some schools with good pedigree don't quite have good STEM programs or maybe their high ranking is for their Business school or some other. Employers usually are the ones who know these things. |

The obituary of Pastor Pat Ryan, as mentioned by Centrix. https://now.fordham.edu/campus-and-community/patrick-ryan-s-j-champion-of-interfaith-dialogue-dies-at-85/ He was good at what he did. Thanks for the mention, Centrix. Loyola is good. The history and consistency validate its standing amongst its peers. |

Onegai:Thank you for mentioning those cases. I am glad our people are being actively involved because this was how the same White folks wanted to implement affirmative action policies in selected schools where East Asians dominated, and their parents, especially the moms, revolted. Interestingly, these policies are ALWAYS from the Democrats, whom most immigrants fervently support. Regarding whether our people take on these scholarships, my experience is different from yours, as I see many Nigerian-Americans who take on these scholarships and as my linked article showed, Black Africans take up significantly more spots at top universities on the basis of affirmative action than African Americans do. Also, I remember a conversation I had with a Taiwanese American who worked at Microsoft, and if I am correct, NASA as well, detailing how she mostly came across Nigerians in top positions. According to her, Microsoft would offer specific scholarships for Black students, but the majority who take up these slots are not African Americans but Black Africans, of whom Nigerians are the majority. More on affirmative action: An example is the Sturversyant school, where in the early 20th century, it had more Black students than East Asians. However, their numbers have nosedived over the years as Asian American students have leapfrogged both White and Black students to be the dominant group in the school. In fact, these standardised tests were introduced to ensure Jewish students got admitted on merit, as they were excluded from many elite institutions. Over time, East Asian students have performed so well that sometimes I think most advocates of the "remove affirmative action/cancel SAT" are behind it, so they reduce Asian enrollment and have more White students. The removal/waiver of SAT was done, and it did not reach a year before MIT and Co., reinstated it. The solution is improving math pedagogy at the secondary school level, especially for students from poorer backgrounds. In my books, the surest way out of poverty is studying a math-based course and being so good at it. That said, are dentists really paid so well across the West? I don't see such here as dentist clinics are a dime and a dozen. Dentists na water. |

Gerrard59 Sure, there were many top people. Off the top of my head, Fr John Mitchell who is now at the University of San Franscico Faculty of Engineering, taught Physics and Mathematics at Loyola https://myusf.usfca.edu/jesuit/profiles Fr. Schineller, Fr. Roselli etc taught English, CRK etc. People have no idea why Loyola is what it is. Also, I get your point but one does not know whether she is an actual American citizen or what her background is. White racism targets all black people regardless of ethnicity. They see you in a position of power, they assume DEI or try to denigrate the work, sweat and blood that comes with attaining those positions. They talk about "DEI" as a negative thing, but the only reason why affirmative action is a thing is because of the racial inequities and biases that still preclude black people from opportunities. What she's saying is that there should be NO DOUBLE STANDARD. Affirmative action is being attacked, but white nepotistic admissions (where kids of white donors are heavily favored in the admissions process) is lauded or seeing as normal. Affirmative action admitted qualified kids (albeit with socioeconomic challenges), Legacy admissions does not. If I moved to the US today, I feel like it's my duty to contribute to the push towards social justice that was started by the OGs. This is the only right thing to do. |
