You guys eat breakfast and supper during your "fast". You only skip lunch. I don't think that will affect anything. |

mohbadliveson:How many of you observes lent? Don't be hypocrite. Atiku knows his stronghold is his northern people grossly affected by Ramadan fast. He is speaking from a politician perspective hustling for votes. Another angle is even the bigot amupitan who is a religious bias folk. |

At this point, it's better to delete the adjective "secular" and replace it with the more appropriate adjective "theocratic" in our Constitution. Enough of the pretense and self-delusion! Nigeria is NOT a secular state but, an unabashed theocratic state. If Nigeria, said to be a secular state, could be compelled to change its "national" calendar to suit primordial religious interests, so, what is secular about Nigeria? @hotseat |

Atiku is merely pandering to the gallery, grasping for anything to relaunch his dwindling political career and pose as religiously pious, selling himself as a champion of democracy. In reality, he comes across as a serial election loser with weak ideological footing, simply labouring in vain. |
| Re: Atiku Blasts INEC Over Ramadan Election Date Controversy by Shimbo96(m): 4:51pm On Feb 14 |
I believe Atiku should be happy 😁 at least there will be less vote buying during the month of Ramadan. You can't fast and still collect bride. |
| Re: Atiku Blasts INEC Over Ramadan Election Date Controversy by LibertyRep: 4:52pm On Feb 14 |
Do you really think it's about the voters? How about the INEC officials. Do you know they sleep a day before the election at the place where they get the electoral materials. Do you really know the stress involved for the electoral officials? Almost the entire night sorting and arranging materials. TokoEkambi: |

olayinka63:Many who observe Lent do so quietly without putting it on display like some of their Muslim counterparts. You and your likes are the original bigots who read religious meaning into everything and turn it into unnecessary division. |

Nigeria is a secular state whose constitution supercedes any other law or authority within its boundaries. However, since it will hold during a fasting period, it will aid Muslims in voting right. |

Have you taken part in an election as an electoral officer before? The stress even start from the day before, all through the night preceeding the election GeneralOuki: |
| Re: Atiku Blasts INEC Over Ramadan Election Date Controversy by LibertyRep: 6:17pm On Feb 14 |
Oh common! No one is saying life should pause. IF you have taken part in elections as an electoral officer, you probably would have seen the merit in Atiku's position Image123: |

| Re: Atiku Blasts INEC Over Ramadan Election Date Controversy by Agbaneson: 6:32pm On Feb 14 |
In a statement shared via his social media platforms, Atiku warned that conducting elections during Ramadan — expected to run from February 7 to March 8, 2027 — could significantly impact voter turnout, particularly among Muslim faithful who observe fasting, prayers, and other religious obligations. While I understand Mr Atiku's concern, it's funny to use one religion's obligations as an excuse for a national exercise in a secular country |

LibertyRep:It must be the hardest work in the world to be an electoral officer or to miss 2 days of fasting that you are allowed to do later. Are you or Atiku okay to have the elections this year, or what are your options and alternatives apart of complaining? |
| Re: Atiku Blasts INEC Over Ramadan Election Date Controversy by Incognito403: 8:50pm On Feb 14 |
Amupitan is a known bigot so this isn't surprising coming from him. He must go or he will be forced out with Tinubu attached to him. |
| Re: Atiku Blasts INEC Over Ramadan Election Date Controversy by Gajagojo: 9:00pm On Feb 14 |
Incognito403:He is not a bigot He is a Christian and the election falls in Lent so that argument has no meaning From 10 February to 25 March either Christians or Muslims will be fasting Clearly you are a bigot The law does not give much choice unless maybe they bring it to this year 2026 or push if to April while handover is May Even bringing it to this year eg December will cause issues with. Chris. To do that there will be need for a change in law Mind you such a law change will likely trigger a court case and a backlash against Muslims |
