That's why I no longer take the UN seriously. With what is happening in the country, he's saying the president is trying on security. That's why the US don't take the UN seriously again. Too much talk and unnecessary diplomacy |

Great100000:Oh boy na wao... See how Jagaban just became a global icon of good governance and economic wizardry. ![]() He's even being used as a reference point for good governance by the international community. To the point that they now want to give Nigeria a permanent seat on the UN Security Council! Atiku and Obi should just retire from politics. IT'S OVER. ![]() |

Please, where in this report did the UN scribe mention that he's supporting Nigeria's bid for a seat in the security council? I would have pushed for Nigeria to join the permanent seat though. |

owobokiri:I agree with your comment except with the bolded. Why? Why not India? The UN is run by the US ... they want a puppet on the Security Council ... that's the bottom line. Nigeria will not vote against the US .. India will . But I'm as you said ...the UN has lost it's purpose ....as we can see with the atrocities Israel is committing in Gaza ...the US just deciding governments...threatening to take over Greenland etc and there is silence on violation of any UN Charter as long as the US or Israel is violating. Did Nigeria ask to join the SC?...why are they suddenly volunteering Nigeria? We need to forget the UN period ...get with BRICS. |

lawani:There are 54 countries in Africa with no seat of representatives at the UN councils. Kenya president has been fighting for this seat since immemorial. It will be inhuman of you to suggest that Africa shouldn’t have a seat cos it’s Tinubu that’s getting it. You bitterness and hatred for Tinubu has blindfolded your sense of reasoning. Take a chill. |

Originalsly:They're not going to allow it, unless a real geopolitical upheaval pushes them to do so. The permanent seats at The Security Council of The United Nations are basically meant for the powers that won the last World War. That's why you don't have countries like India, Japan or Germany there, but have Western adversaries like China and Russia. It is basically an institution within the United Nations that's being used by the 5 permanent members to skew World events in a way that suits their collective and personal interests. Countries like the USA and Britain might totally opt out of the United Nations if the membership of The Security Council is expanded/liberalised |

Yeah right. Nigeria should first try to become a country before trying to become a member of the security council. Nigeria qualifies as what President Trump would call non nation. |

Originalsly:Potentially,.. But in pratical terms, BRICS members have not really taken serious anti west/anti "big power" positions. On paper? Yes. But in practice, they operate more like another global economic group. No serious strategic allingments in Defence or foreign policy. As long as the BRICS nations don't rock the boat in these areas, they wouldn't be considered a serious threat. Whats more? The major powers in BRICS are China 🇨🇳 and Russia 🇷🇺. Two powerful members of the same United Nations Security Council. I don't think that the two will agree to derail the Security Council in favour of BRICS, as long as the operational mechanism within the Security Council continues to meet a large part of their foreign policy targets .. |

owobokiri:No serious strategic alignment on Defence? Wouldn't you consider China and Russia in joint military exercises a serious alignment in Defence? ...then Iran and their missiles joinied them? Isn't this the threat that make usbe hearing no more about the Aircraft Carrier and supporting vessels suddenly fon noced into th background. |

insidelife22:My brother you read my mind..This UN guy is a huge joke and a bigot. He has been silence all this while as Nigerian Muslims are killing Christians at an industrial scale, now he wants to reward a country that can't protect her citizens with a Security council sit..what a huge joke |

Originalsly:From the days of the Soviet Union and Communist China to now, Moscow and Beijing have always had some sort of military cooperations. Their relationship in the areas of Defence and foreign policy have always been deep and strategic. So their mutual relationships on these fronts superseded BRICS. For instance, Most of chinese military technologies came from Russia. China also prioritises importing hydrocarbon from Russia to prop up the Russian economy. China has always been a strategic partner of the Russians. Don't forget they share common borders and common enemies.. My argument has to do with the totality of BRICS outlook as a global organisation, and how they spawn their influences as a group thereof. You can look at NATO and see what I meant by "shared values in defence and foreign policy". Looks like BRICS is still "a work in progress" on this one. They may end up a huge counter power to some of these western imperial organisations, but I'm not betting on that. To me, the, members of BRICS are more interested in economic growth and safeguards against Western econimic wars/machinations, than in standing on the way of a moving train like America/NATO |
