How Short-let Apartments Worsen The Housing Crisis In Nigeria. by YoobaNesan(op):
This is one of the topic that’s not much talk about albeit, many do not know that the pricing models for airBnBs and short-lets apartments aggravated the housing crisis situation we’re currently witnessing which stands at around 3 million units of housing deficit for example in Lagos.

You’ll see a 2BR apartment in a nice estate going for an average rental price of #3M per year, which is about #8,000 per night.
Another units in same estates is then used for short-lets and priced at least #30,000 per night, which is #10M per annum, or #50,000 per night, which is #18M per annum and many are priced even higher.
Just like the one advertised on front page is priced at #150,000 per night, which is #54M per annum for a 2BR. grin

Landlords just observe the two rental models pales in comparison and become greedy over night then jack up their rent for next year.

Most of the empty houses that littered everywhere are pegged at these short-lets prices hence majority of the populace couldn’t afford them.

These short-lets also threaten our civilization as having different neighbors at various intervals ain’t communal at all.

If someone is in need of a house for a short stay, hotels are there for them.

The appropriate authorities has to do something before this get out of hand.

Shalom! 🙏

Your point is very valid. I think there is need for proper regulation of this new trend of short-let apartments otherwise most landlords go convert their buildings to short let for higher returns o. Then where we go live?
