I see the point she's trying to make.

But this is a fallacy of hasty generalisation - "There is no legal job..." makes her theory absolute, rendering it false.

A mid trim 2025 Toyota Camry fresh from the factory can cost around 30K USD - roughly 40m...

To be pessimistic, call it 60m plus shipping.

There are white collar jobs that pay 6m net per month (excluding bonuses) - I know a C-suite guy earning this amount. And this guy has a boss who earns more...

There are people who have big bonuses after their multi million Naira salaries.

Professionals (like those in sales) can make unbelievable money from commissions per sale...and that can really rack up in volume depending on the type of deal brokered.

So, yes, a brand new car can be bought legally in Nigeria.

The only fact is, compared to the general population, the fraction of people who can purchase a brand new car is very small.

PS: Currently, I can't afford a brand new car. Because una no get manners here. Next thing, someone will come and say their father is claiming rich.
No where will you see 2025 camry for that price, consider 80-90m. Sariki moto, that Abuja car dealer showed one for 110m.

She is coming from a place of ignorance. Even today with this economy a large number of businesses buy brand new vehicles for staff in particular roles.

They call them function or status cars. For all intents and purposes the person assigned the car is the owner and will buy it at net book price after 4 years unless he is sacked. As I write this I was at a meeting with an lasg parastatal and everyone there had a brand new Toyota hilux assigned to them.

Unfortunately once you have not worked in corporate you think these things are a pipe dream

For an individual, it DOES NOT MAKE FINANCIAL SENSE TO BUY A CAR BRAND NEW. This is the same even in the West. Fininacial advisers typically recommend but a two or three year used car
The population of brand new buyers determine how rich a population is.
Nigeria don cast.

even when nigeria was 'rich' it was corporate that was buying brand new. everyone else bought cars aged two to four years

why would i buy a brand new 2007 yaris when i can buy a used 2005 corolla or a used 2004 camry with the same money?

people buying cars brand new stopped being a thing in the 80s/90s

Not everything anyone says deserves a comment though.
I bought a brand new car legally in 2016 based on salaries and allowances. A lot of of my friends and colleagues have brand new cars on same accord as
Well. Some wanted bigger cars on same amount level. So when I bought my salon car on X amount, some bought SUVs on same amount.
Different people, different preferences
how much was brand new car in 2016 and how much is brand new car now?

Then, you could get eg , a Kia rio for 8-10m brand new.

How much is a brand new Kia rio today ?

Remote Jobs

You can save and buy a brand new car from these jobs

Even abroad you buy it as a loan and pay monthly car notes not cash

There are well-paying jobs that are industry-specific. However in industries such as the oil and gas, positions are limited from time immemorial and the number of space for unskilled workers is even very small. So pick your struggle wisely.
Re: A Lady Sparks Outrage Online Over Jobs & Earnings In Nigeria. What Is Your Take? by deji17: 2:51am On Feb 16
A new car, depends on the model could cost you 45 million naira. Some people earns 2 to 3 million naira per month. Such people could either save or get a payment plan where they pay half a million per month and payback for 7 or 8 years. In abroad, this is how many people could afford to buy new cars. Over 90 per cent of the population cannot buy new car, cash down abroad.

for any body less than 40, I don't think there is any blue or white colar job we're you will be able to buy a brand new car in one or two years with just your salary.
There are many jobs in Nigeria from which earning you can comfortably buy a brand new car within few years of working as a new graduate. There are jobs in Nigeria that pays as much as 6k - 15k dollars monthly..... And, there are MANY jobs that pays fresh graduates (I know of engineering and communication) as much as 1.5m - 2m monthly.....

I agree 💯 with your assertions 👍.
First, she just likes the Social Media Outbursts to yan.
Second, she said ' there are no legal jobs " and how did she got that conclusion without being a falacy?
Thirdly, how she made a generalized statement, for there are any legal jobs in Banking, Accounting,Legal, Financial and even in Real Sector- Manufacturing where Nigerians earn good pays that is World Competitive.
Cars are liabilities but you can also makes it to earn income by using it to picking Passengers, thereby offsetting the Cost as it generate Streams Income ,e.g Use it for Uber,to get additional Income.
He Statements is fatally Wrong 👎
It's easier being said. Reality is not the same. Please I sent you a mail can you reply to it

She is correct to a great extent.

The only companies in Nigeria that can pay none executive and none managerial staffs salary and allowances that can afford the staffs a brand new Toyota/Honda/Hyundai cars after working for like 5 years, are:

1.) Mobil
2.) Total Energy
3.) Chevron
4.) Shell
5.) Agip/Saipem
6.) Hyundai Energy
7.) CBN
8.) NNPC
9.) DPR
10.) Schlumberger
11.) Some foreign NGOs like ICRC, World Bank, WHO, UN and it's subsidiaries
12.) US Embassy and US Missions
13.) British Council and some other European Embassies/Missions

Note: I am not talking about making money at your workplace through the Nigerian usual office corruption and corrupt practices, I am talking about legitimate salary and allowances as speculated in the employment letter only!
These are the ones you know, there are many others you are not aware of that pays even more. My NYSC room mate, a young engineer in his 30's with one company (whose name I don't want to mention), as at 2017 was earning 6,400 dollars monthly. I happened to stumble on his pay slip then.

I don't know how much he earns now but I assume it should be more than 12k dollars -- after all, be has grown on the job, acquired additional skills and degrees.

Most graduate trainees in Huawei earns a minimum of 1.5m monthly -- net pay (fresh graduates) ,.....

Jobs dey. Either we are in the wrong circle, or we are looking at the wrong places

Kaczynski:
There are jobs in that pay well, the matter is entirely a skill issue, most people want jobs but they lack the skills. Imagine an civil engineer that does not know autocad or a software engineer that cannot implement a data structure.

the mere fact most people rather splurge their earnings on material items like car, tv. Instead of them to diversify their income they are thinking of purchasing a brand new car. I pity who will marry this one because you are engaging yourself with a liability instead of asset.
May your days be long ...

6m a month means 10 months of untouched pay to buy the brand new car. Now whoever is at C suite level is most likely married with grown children. Responsibilities will be numerous. So i think she is right
Not very correct though. Not every man in his 30's is married yet, and there are quite a number of C-Suite level guys who are single.... I know a few..... Maybe I am one of such 😂 😂 😂...

This is nothing special. Even abroad there are very very few jobs that you can have that you can afford brand new car. They buy on credit. Our challenge is that our society is a cash society but theirs is credit society.

Never thought of it before...

But it's actually indicting on Nigeria if majority of the population can't afford brand new cars and have to depend on buying used cars from foreign countries.

Local manufacturers like innosson also has to do better to make prices of brand new cars more affordable.

We can't continue being a dumping market for second value goods. It's no crime for majority of Nigerians to use brand new cars and first grade goods and services o.

Haba mana!
It's the same thing abroad. The only difference is that they have credit system i.e loans, mortgage etc

That's a lie stretched too far, although very few and requires huge years of experience but there a jobs like that outside politics in this country that can comfortably do that.
That's exactly what she's saying.

She truly meant that if such jobs actually exists, then such jobs are far less than 2%.

[quote author=wonder233 post=138474016]The mindset of paying out of pocket and in full in one fell swoop for everything is what is making people outraged.
A Nigerian wants a house, he starts thinking how to "gather" the entire money for it.
Abroad that people drive mostly new cars, people don't pay for them at once at of pocket, they use finance facilities that enable them pay in installments. Same with housing, they use mostly mortgages.
Same with even gadgets and home appliances.

Nigerians are not future thinking people. People want everything now. Nobody wants to do anything long term.
That is why nothing
God bless you for these. Most times I refrain from contributing to posts from some of these shallow brains but when I saw your post,it shows someone is at least rational. No where in the world where a salary earner pays cash for a brand new motor unless you are the super rich.Buying a new car even in saner clime is an option because the used car market is well regulated and has more players.
Re: A Lady Sparks Outrage Online Over Jobs & Earnings In Nigeria. What Is Your Take? by wonder233: 6:03am On Feb 16
You see what I'm saying as a typical Nigerian? Arguing unintelligently. Go and read and stop being ignorant.
HacheNoire:
So debt is future thinking?

Can you do the maths of a car sold for 30,000 and financed over 5 years at 5% interest rate?

Do same for a house of 250K

Why you see 90% of westerners trapped in debt. The future has been spent and they own nothing.

Cash is king! It saves you good money and balances mental state. Not thinking about your debts 3 times a day.
