Nollywood actress Iyabo Ojo has responded to public criticism following her recent promotional video for the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), stating that her involvement was motivated by patriotism rather than political interests.

The video, which began circulating online last week, showed the actress encouraging travellers to explore FAAN’s protocol services, highlighting benefits such as comfort, speed and exclusivity at Nigerian airports. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

However, the clip triggered debate on social media, with some critics questioning her decision to support a government agency despite her past comments perceived as critical of the current administration.

Reacting to the controversy in a statement shared on Instagram, Ojo clarified that she was not paid for the endorsement. According to her, FAAN approached her for the project, and she agreed out of a desire to promote positive developments in the country.

“I’m Nigerian, and I’m a voice. When I see progress — airports upgraded, roads rebuilt, systems improved — I talk about it. Not because I’m paid or because it’s political, but because I want good for my country,” she wrote.

The actress also emphasised her commitment to national growth, noting that she is willing to collaborate with stakeholders across political lines if it contributes to Nigeria’s development.

“I will continue to use my craft and my voice to promote Nigeria, and I’m unapologetic about it. I’ll work with any political party as long as it’s about building a better tomorrow for our nation. No hate, no agenda — just hands joined. Let’s stop dividing and start building,” she added.

Her response has continued to generate mixed reactions online, with supporters praising her stance while critics remain divided over the issue.

That's what Iyabo Ojo's case has become & she deserves all the flaks she's getting.

It was always obvious that the supporters of one candidate in the 2023 presidential election never really loved Nigeria; they were only united in their hatred of PBAT & progress of Nigeria otherwise, how can progress no matter how little, infuriate these group of supporters so much?

They gloat and clap hands in celebration when bad things happen but when even the smallest good happens, they pretend not to see or hear talk more of speak up about it. Even more disturbing is their penchant for tearing down anyone who chooses to see the "little" progress being made; if they don't label such persons as sellouts, they play the tribal card.

Even secret cults don't behave the way these group of supporters behave.
