The Lagos State Ministry of Justice has faulted what it described as a “viral report of misrepresentation” of the judgment of the Court of Appeal, Abuja Division, which affirmed an earlier ruling of the Federal High Court on the powers of Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIO) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).https://www.channelstv.com/2026/02/15/motorist-on-lagos-road-who-disobeys-vis-officer-will-be-arrested-prosecuted-ministry-warns/

Hehehehehe VIO is in Lagos and yet yellow commercial buses without indicator lights, brake lights, broken windscreens, missing side mirrors, smoky exhaust, etc are everywhere in Lagos. What of the interior of the buses: iron or plank seats, exposed engines, etc The same decrepit buses also have a way of passing the annual vehicle inspection tests. Na wa Na to dey flex muscle against private drivers dem sabi What of their motor parks? Dirty and muddy. What of parking on the roads and causing traffic? Who regulates these buses, Okadas and kekes who blocks junctions and drive against traffic and other reckless driving? VIO? LASTMA? Police? FRSC? Agberos? |

The Federal Court Has Ruled But The Attorney General And Commissioner For Justice, Lawal Pedro, SAN, is Talking Nonsense ...He Should Be the One That Should Be Prosecuted For Breaching Court Order ..VIO Have No Right to Stop Cars And Ask For Paperwork This is contempt of the law, is the LASG ministry of Justice higher than the federal high court judgment? Pls they should let us know Federal Constitution is Still Superior to State Laws As Far As Nigeria is Concerned. |

One charge and bail lawyer was instigating people to do otherwise in one viral video, you are on your own Antoeni:it doesn’t matter to you that if you commit some traffic infractions like violation of traffic light in Lagos where there is camera with Abuja number plates, you don’t get fined.but you do the same with Lagos registration and immediately you will get your alert. Go and try rubbish and let them catch you,I trust most of you always comport yourselves offline,na online you will come and be forming styles. If you have more than one cars, carry one enter Lagos road then when Vio stop you make you assault them, let’s see what will happen |

Very backward people .... In USA and decent countries do you see their MOT officials on road harassing people ... Here they are encouraging extortion and harassment by officials That's why Lagos has gotten reputation of harassment and begging ...and Government is even encouraging them Get these people out of the streets and get them done their jobs in their offices... They are constituting nuisance and traffic gridlock If VIO are working in Lagos..you will never see all these Danfos and Molue in Lagos It's only in Lagos that they still use such a relic as transportation means ..Danfos that is over 50yrs old and Molue with no safety and yet they still have VIO nawa for these guys

Let's even start with the patrol vehicles of the so-called VIO: you'll see them driving vehicles with worn out tires yet harassing private vehicle owner Ugandan. Just as someone mentioned, all those contraptions called danfos, are they above the law?? |

Lagos is a jungle, their Ministry of Justice miscarred Federal Appeal Court judgements. Imagine they just empowered miscreants in black and white uniforms to harass motorists. Thank God I live in Abuja, where is respect forvhuman dignity. I still did VIO "ntoor" this this morning on the Airport Road. They no born them well to stop me, when they know that I know what the law says. |

It is all about the extortion and corruption. The government is making a lot of money from the extortion and the VIO officials are also competing with the state on who is the richest. Some will issue private account numbers to pay into. Not State Account. |

| Re: Motorist On Lagos Road Who Disobeys VIO Officer Will Be Arrested, Prosecuted, by oyeraff: 9:43am On Feb 16 |
One thing that baffled me more was that the VIO only concentrate on clean vehicles and not those taxis, that even carries 3 people in the front, no seat belt, no side mirror, some of then no head lamp. |

Hypocrites. The law applies nationwide. What a mischief to choose & pick. If Lagos VIO stops, harasses drivers, et al, they are contravening the law. |

oyeraff:The VIO cars looks so dirty with broken headlamps and all broken tail light fallen off bumpers and yet we have those dirty jerky and scrappy Danfos and Molue in Lagos... Lagos is the only city that they use that travesty called Molue for transport and Danfos Yet they have some lousy VIO |
| Re: Motorist On Lagos Road Who Disobeys VIO Officer Will Be Arrested, Prosecuted, by ariesbull: 9:51am On Feb 16 |
This is how low we have reduced the judiciary and that is very good for them! They allowed these travesty in their judgement now they are not regarded cmikel: |

"Therefore, any motorist on Lagos roads who disobeys or assaults a VIS officer in Lagos State in the course of performance of his statutory duty will be subject to arrest and prosecution by this Ministry,” it added. So Lagosian must obey VIO officials even they are giving illegal orders? While acknowledging the validity of the rulings, the Lagos State Government stressed that “the judgment, though binding, is not of general application or of nationwide effect in Nigeria.” It further clarified that “only parties to the suit and any state that has no statute on VIO, like FCT Abuja, are bound by the judgments,” noting that Nigeria operates a federal system of government with clearly defined legislative powers between federal and state authorities. The statement emphasised that vehicle inspection and traffic management fall within residual matters for states and that Lagos has its own statutory framework regulating such activities. It, therefore, advised members of the public “not to be misled by the misrepresentation of the judgments of both the Federal High Court and the Court of Appeal,” and to cooperate with VIS officers to avoid sanctions. Mr. Lawal Pedro can not approbate and reprobate at the same time. If you acknowledged the judgement as binding, then abide by it until you get it upturned. Mr. Lawal Pedro should approach a Court of competent jurisdiction on the matter to get clarification or challenge it's binding on Lagos State territory. That is the right thing for him to do as an apostle of Justice. Not to be issuing ambiguous statements and unwarranted threat against Lagosians |

Kharol1234:how man of mu-mu like me una be for una house Instead of them to learn, they will be brandishing their ignorance, you don’t see the VIO mostly in federal roads cos their exclusive to states in like the road safety that is established under the federal act.LASVIC is different from the ogun state vehicle inspection service hence, they may operate under different state laws….no be to just come online and be claiming rubbish |
