for any body less than 40, I don't think there is any blue or white colar job we're you will be able to buy a brand new car in one or two years with just your salary.
In trying to make the lies stick, you brought in age and work years.

You lie and the lady was telling lie.

even when nigeria was 'rich' it was corporate that was buying brand new. everyone else bought cars aged two to four years

why would i buy a brand new 2007 yaris when i can buy a used 2005 corolla or a used 2004 camry with the same money?

people buying cars brand new stopped being a thing in the 80s/90s
Story story for consolation!

What do you think? Is she right or wrong?
This is usually an economic environmental problem,. The lady has reasoned it in her small mind and concluded it is not possible. If her father started off as an international staff in an oil company, she would be thinking the opposite.

In the 90s, when I already knew what's up with salaries and lived in PH and my father was a blue colar worker who wasn't poor. I argued with my village rich man's son, who was my friend at the time, that nobody could earn up to 100k as salary. I laughed at his ignorance.

This statement is purely from the place of ignorance, lack of exposure, economic dwarfism, and environmental influence.

To even get a job is not easy, not to talk of buying a *brand new" car with salary.

Let me give u for free..
Seplatenergy pays a level 3 technician (opns)(mtce)10.5 million naira monthly.
300milion during CIC.
A TMSA contractor (call out) earns 250k daily on the job and 200k daily when at home on time off.
A manager earns like 18milion naira monthly while people in upper management are shrouded..SEPLAT is a Nigerian company..
Imattertoo:
How much do you think employees in those organisations earn? N15m/month?

I think she is right up to her level of understanding. Reason being that the more she grows in wisdom, the more she understands

Are you telling me the current MD of access can’t buy a brand new car? Or even Directors at solid MNEs legit?

I’m think she is not 100% correct although she is mostly correct

That's a lie stretched too far, although very few and requires huge years of experience but there a jobs like that outside politics in this country that can comfortably do that.
It's not a lie. Name just one legal job where someone can apply to, get the job, get paid, save from your salary, and buy a brand new car in 3 years. Just one job (where you're paid salary, and you can afford a brand new car in 3 years?)

I created job... It's easy just that you have to believe yourself. The job that you are looking for isn't it a fellow human like you that created it ?

Look around you, there are gaps to be filled, fill it! We have internet and it can help you with inspiration

These are the ones you know, there are many others you are not aware of that pays even more. My NYSC room mate, a young engineer in his 30's with one company (whose name I don't want to mention), as at 2017 was earning 6,400 dollars monthly. I happened to stumble on his pay slip then.

I don't know how much he earns now but I assume it should be more than 12k dollars -- after all, be has grown on the job, acquired additional skills and degrees.

Most graduate trainees in Huawei earns a minimum of 1.5m monthly -- net pay (fresh graduates) ,.....

Jobs dey. Either we are in the wrong circle, or we are looking at the wrong places
My brother, no oil company in Nigeria pay more than:

1.) Chevron
2.) Mobil
3.) NLNG
4.) Total Energy
5.) Agip and othe Eni Group

Even GE, Schneider, Schlumberger don't come close to what you are talking about.

IOCs pay based on international standard and even in the US of all places, no oil company pay fresh graduates more than $5000 a month, unless those working in very high risk areas like high sea platforms, onshore oil rigs, war torn areas and they earn that from hazard allowances.

The person talking to you is a trained Engineer with such experience and with friends and colleagues working in various oil firms even outside Nigeria.

Why the outrage.

Very few jobs can... less than 10-15% of jobs (top company executives) which is abysmally low.( I believe I'm being generous)

Not entirely correct if she says no jobs... but not very far off the mark as only a very few jobs can!
Na woman
Hypergamy con stars
Doubting the subject is funny
Cause I know buying a car won't be the person only expenses
Food, medical, accomodations, utility bills, social bills, immediate & extended family bill(cost of housing one family member is not less than but can be above 2.5million per anum)
Mescilinous(person or you spoil something etc)
Anyways which new car are we using to review this thing sef

You guys don't seem to understand the point the lady was trying to make.

How many of your Toriola do you have in Nigeria; you said just 1? cheesy

Have you ever seen any company advertise that they are hiring MD or CEO, Directors or even COO? Even when some upcoming companies advertise for COO position, it's not meant for the public per se, they have a target candidates, so an average Nigerian graduate does not qualify for such position.

And do you know how many years it takes to become a big corporation's Director or Chief Executive? Even to become a manager in a well established company take years.

My own small company's Manager has been working for me for like 8 years now before getting to that position talk more of big corps, you guys in Nigeria are the reason the corrupt political class take you all for a ride, make Una continue, by next year you will become next Toriola, all thanks to Bola Tinubu that have made plenty good and well paying jobs available in Nigeria now grin

How about oil company and multinational executives and managerial staff? Current MTN CEO's annual salary is over ₦1billion, so that one won't be able to buy a brand new car or his job is not legit? Some people will just be coming online to broadcast their lack of exposure
Exactly the point.

I'm trying to imagine the family they all come from where no single person is occupying a good position in IOCs.

Gbadugbakun:
Which brand new car brand and model would you see for 12-20m. Abeg sufry de lie. Any brand new car would be a car model of 2023 upwards. Such would cost nothing less than 100m when you add clearing charges and custom duty to it.

I appreciate your response Sir. However, Let's get this clear so we can be properly aligned. The poster didn't say "fresh graduates", she said, "NO BLUE COLLAR WORKER IN NIGERIA". I think that is important for context

For fresh graduates, I said, there are companies that pay above 1.5m for a start and I gave an example of such --- a close friend of mine. She studied Elect - Elect in UNIBEN. Graduated before COVID and her first job was 1.5m naira.

My friend who as at 2016 was earning 6,400 dollars monthly is not a fresh graduate. We served together in 2008.... His first job in 2009 was 500k+ (not oil sector)... He switched to this new company in 2015 after his masters and MBA...... He is an engineer too --- Elect - Elect...

I am a management staff with over 15years working experience (some of us were privileged to start working immediately we concluded our NYSC, so I speak from the experiences of close friends, colleagues and mine as well.

I hope you get it now, sir.....?

I am a Director in my office, which is the highest administrative level one can attain, as PS is more of a political portfolio and based on the discretion of the Chief Executive (I work with govt), I have gotten all the degrees obtainable -- up to the highest and I am still in my 30's.....

....so, I am kind of bored here and currently seeking new challenges in the private sector or multinationals....... You will be amazed at the figures I am seeing for experienced workers..... I am such you know these things

I think I understand you better now.

I thought you meant that your friend got a job as a new graduate with a firm that started him with $6500 monthly salary, that was what caught my attention cos no company in Nigeria pay that to new graduate hires, not even in the United States except with overtime hours, and only for specialty jobs like Anesthetic Nurses, Physicians, etc.

But with your explanation now, I think its very much possible for experienced hires to be paid that much at IOCs, top-level NGOs, etc, so you are correct.

To me, the lady was talking about young graduate jobs and not experienced hires because some experienced positions even get company profit share annually for top managerial staffs and executives, so I don't think anyone would want to classify those as mere job seekers because you can hardly see companies advertise for such job vacancies because they are filled internally from top-management staffs already within the organization

If you work with the government of Nigeria as a director; be it in federal or state ministry, you cannot earn more than 2million naira a month as your legitimate paper salary. You maybe making more than that figure monthly through the usual Nigerian office corruption and shady deals which I abhor with passion and don't like to even talk about it cos its one of the things that made Nigeria a failed nation it is today as a society.

Talking about experienced hires....its same for all government workers....they make the money they spend through office corruption and shady office deals and not through their legitimate salary and allowances....only those in NNPC, NLNG, NGC, DPR, CBN, maybe NDDC get good pay, most others are far from what's obtainable in IOCs and top multinational private firms and NGOs.

2m naira monthly salary for a Director with govt when it is not NNPC or those special agencies is not feasible --- as far as I know... So, I definitely don't earn up to that, not even remotely close.....

If I do, I won't be thinking of moving to those multinationals or private sectors like the ones my friends work. I will simply strategically push my money to work for me in other business ventures while I continue here --- ateast, there is job security plus plenty of time here......

However, legitimately, depending on the office you occupy, there are some months you might earn up to, or close to that through through DTA and overhead --- extremely rare though

So how much is brand new car?

And what about brand new cars in nigeria?
The price of a brand new car like I said would be based on the car brand. Eg highlander 2023 would be about 120m for brand new.

Camry 2024 would be around 110m for brand new.

99% of auto dealers in Nigeria don't sell brand new cars they sell foreign used. Meaning if you went to buy a brand new car you will have to place the order yourself directly from the company. And pay all the charges involved.
Re: A Lady Sparks Outrage Online Over Jobs & Earnings In Nigeria. What Is Your Take? by Africarise1(m): 1:43pm On Feb 16
65% of Nigerians do not have a job. 30% are working, but even the take home pay is inadequate. 1% can afford such brand new cars legitimately after saving for 3 years and above. The remaining 4% will have to work and save for 5 to 20 years to afford cars of such magnitude.
The lady is 100% right. Nigeria as a country is gone. Big for nothing, with the citizens seeing basic life needs as super luxury.
It is well

Bankers are reading and laughing at you guys
IT remote workers too. There are people working for international social media companies that live in Nigeria. If you see them you’ll think they’re yahoo boys but they’re not

Do you know access bank gives entry level staff a brand new car that is paid for over some years?

So imagine if an entry level staff could do that what about experienced bankers?

VanuatuWycombe:
Those jobs may look good, though and paying well but have you seen anyone working such job in Nigeria who paid 100% cash to get a brand new vehicle?

There hasn’t been one, all my years of working in private sector and interacting with workers across so many sectors.
They either buy graded Tokunbo or they take vehicle loan and buy a new vehicle, or they are given official vehicles.

Only vehicles like INNOSON, made in Nigeria can be bought with huge salaries of nearly 10 months, out of 12 months’ salaries in Nigeria of today.
That’s where we have less than 1% of people that can do that.
