El-Rufai lacks capacity to tap NSA Ribadu’s phone – Rotimi Amaechi

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, Rotimi Amaechi, says former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai does not have the capacity to tap the telephone of the National Security Adviser, NSA, Nuhu Ribadu.

Amaechi made this statement on Tuesday while responding to questions in an interview on Eagle.

DAILY POST reports that El-Rufai admitted he and others listened to the telephone conversations of the NSA after tapping his phone, an act that has drawn widespread criticism from various quarters, including the presidency.

Reacting during the interview, Amaechi said, “I doubt that El-Rufai said he hacked NSA Nuhu Ribadu’s phone. He doesn’t have the capacity to do so.

“It’s the NSA’s office that is listening to our calls. Ribadu is busy arresting everybody. He’s planning double elections.

“He’s planning for himself in 2031 and also for Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

“All he’s doing is setting up parties to fight the ADC. He has his own fake ADC. Just go to court, he has so many ADC cases with small boys he has bought cars for.

“The man needs to rest. If he thinks there won’t be proper elections in 2027, he’s wasting his time. He should focus on his security job.”

They can take all the time in the world. When he's done, he will go to court and eat up the watery DSS charges for lunch. He is not new to this game. Man is only experiencing deja vu. The now NSA Ribadu investigated Tinubu and confirmed that he was sitting on over 75% of the Lagos State funds.

Amaechi the hungry guy should also calm down. DSS did not invent the allegation. El-Rufai himself woke up one morning, went to a national tv station and announced without anybody forcing him that he and some people have bugged the phone of the NSA and they are listening to his calls.

So, this is not about capacity. This is about El-Rufai going before a judge to repeat the same thing he said on live tv. Thereafter, let the judge decide. It’s very simple.

El-Rufai talks too much like he's invincible. He would learn the hard way. This isn't Buhari or Jonathan's regime.

EFCC need to do beyond interrogation. They need to secure a conviction which they have failed to do on one single case since the beginning of this administration. Maybe it's because Tinubu is channelling their budgets to procure the support of governors. They are highly underfunded. Beyond institutionalising your reputation for betrayal in the North, you will be unable to make anything stick on Elrufai and he has nothing to lose and everything to gain because he will come out unscathed.

How would Amaechi be so sure?

El Rufai said he listened to the calls of those in government and that Ribadu gave the order for his arrest. When Charles Aniagolu told him it was illegal, El Rufai said someone tapped the phone.

1. Charles never asked El Rufai, El Rufai volunteered information freely. When he was corrected, he claimed someone did it.

2. El Rufai has not denied his utterances. It is shoddy for Amaechi to deny on El Rufai's behalf.

3. If Amaechi is saying El Rufai lied, Amaechi is saying their opposition is built on lies, considering Amaechi himself had said Tinubu was delaying implementation of tax laws and said anyone who bought building materials would pay heavy taxes.

4. There was no attempt to arrest El Rufai. El Rufai started a narrative that he was to be arrested before he arrived Nigeria. El Rufai told us ICPC asked DSS to arrest him. When did he have problem with ICPC? Was his case not with EFCC? If any security agency wanted to arrest him, they'd inform the pilot not to open the doors until they enter the aircraft, arrest the subject and whisk him away. There were no plans to arrest him.

5. The opposition has stopped saying Nigerians are hungry. Food prices have crashed. Like we advised Tinubu, improve security and retire these people who have nothing to campaign on.

Section 36(11) of Nigeria's 1999 Constitution (as amended) provides that no person shall be compelled to give evidence against themselves in a criminal matter.

Translation: Even if I say I bedded your wife, you can't charge me to court and win unless you are able to prove it. I will simply decline to testify against myself. I'll send an invoice later for the legal consultation. It's not free.

Then he should provide who has the capacity and did actually.
