For what it's worth, the killer's would have killed whoever was using the profile to drive, even if it was the profile owner.
Not sharing profiles doesn't prevent any car-jacking or any other crime.
If both wanted to dodge a y financial and insurance obligations, they could still have done that if the bereaved demand for such benefits.
SA and Nigeria already have a strained relationship and this message from Bolt SA can be perceived with the mindset of that situation.
I agree with a lot of what you said, but Bolt is about money and self-preservation, not nationalistic squabbles. I doubt politics was even a priority for them. They are a global company.....profit and reputation come first.

They mentioned that he was not the legal driver to protect themselves. If he had been, they might have had to take some level of responsibility. Companies make those distinctions early to reduce legal risk, not to take sides.

A young man was brutally murdered in the most heinous way by this brood of xenophobes, and all some black South Africans want to do is to gaslight and to emotionally blackmail.
Shameless people..

What do they mean operating illegally?
An economic migrant working to feed himself?

So because of that he should be killed?

Chai. See where they have pushed the matter to …..”illegally”. Na wa o
Who pushed the matter to ”illegally”. Bolt has every right to distance themselves from the fraud perpetrated by the dead guy and his South African accomplice. That's what this statement is about. They have no responsibility to people who use their platform illegally.

[quote author=Princedapace post=138503295]Can this be compared to people slaughtered in Nigeria ? The funniest thing about us is that we are so quick to condemn other nations.
Last week alone, over 170 Nigerians were slaughtered and many kidnapped.
Nigerians kill nigeians more than others kill Nigerians.[/quoteu don't get the point.
It is very very wrong for nationals to kill foreigners

What if the unregistered driver was the one who committed the crime against a customer, would Bolt be protected?

Was bolt not collecting full commission from the earnings of the illegal profile sharing?
Some companies have very poor PR, I mean extremely poor.
How can a company like bolt not even thunk about the already strained relationship between SA and Naija before issuing this kind of insensitive statement!!
Even if he used someone's profile illegally and bolt obviously wants to avoid offering financial support to the family, can bolt not just condole the family and leave the profile talk about to a later date, maybe ater the deceased must have been buried?
This is the kind of thing that could start a "boycott bolt rides" campaign in Nigeria.
Nonsense and ingredients 😡😡😡😡😡

Re: Bolt SA Confirms Slain Nigerian Driver Was Operating Illegally by Jkilo: 6:57am On Feb 18
South Africans and dumbness are like six and half a dozen, no difference. So because he operated illegally automatically means he should be lynched and killed right? The south African prosecutor wants to sway the public by moving their attention to the illegality of the victim I stead of the gruesome murder committed by the hateful south African citizens. Murder is murder anyway, anywhere and everytime. You simply cannot use illegality to tackle illegality. Like the popular say: everybody is innocent until proven guilty. Now that he is dead, how do we know that you are telling the truth since he's not around to defend himself.
Murderous Xenophobic bloodsuckers! You preach against apartheid but that's exactly what you practice.

RandDigital:
Bolt South Africa has confirmed that the murdered e-hailing driver, Isaac Satlat, was not registered and illegally used a profile belonging to another.

The foreign national was killed by passengers in a shocking video caught on a dash cam.

Three suspects appeared in Pretoria Magistrates Court on Monday, 16 February, on charges of murder and hijacking. A fourth suspect has since been arrested.

In a statement posted on its social media platforms, Bolt South Africa offered its condolences to the family and loved ones of driver Isaac Satlalt.

The e-hailing company condemned the murder, stating it was working with police in the ongoing investigation.

Bolt revealed that Satlat – a 22-year-old Nigerian – was not a registered driver. It added that the late foreign national had illegally used the profile of another driver, a man identified as Wiseman Makobe.

In all likelihood, Setlat paid Makobe to use his profile in order to utilise the app as a driver – a practice that e-hailing companies strongly condemn.

It shared: “On the day of the incident, Mr. Makobe completed the required verification process, after which Mr. Satlat operated using that profile. This constitutes profile sharing. The profile has since been permanently hard-blocked and banned from operating on the platform.

It added: “Profile sharing is strictly prohibited on the Bolt platform. It undermines passenger trust, compromises safety, and violates our agreements with drivers”.

Bolt revealed it had implemented multiple safeguards to curb the practice, including mandatory identity verification, regular in-app selfie checks, device monitoring, and data-led risk detection systems. Drivers who contravene this rule can face immediate suspension and permanent bans.

WHO WAS ISAAC SATLAT?

Isaac Satlat was a 22-year-old Nigerian foreign national who lived and studied in South Africa.

According to accounts by family members, Satlat completed a qualification in automotive mechanical engineering and was set to graduate next month. He was on a study visa, which permits individuals to work for up to 20 hours per week.

In December, he was hired by the owner of the vehicle he drove to become a Bolt driver.

On Wednesday, 11 February, he was attacked by two individuals who requested a ride on the e-hailing app. Two other individuals in another car were involved in the coordinated attack.

Satlat’s body was found in Atteridgeville, a township located outside Pretoria. His family are hoping to raise funds via a BackaBuddy campaign to have his remains repatriated.

My people ,.do you see how fast the SA police apprehended the murder suspects ? If this happened in Nigeria , it will take months if not years to get the perpetrators....RIP to the victim
The killers of DEBORAH who filmed themselves and posted online are still not arrested after many years. Nigeria is a useless country.

Yes.
The owner of the profile would have been held responsible.
And that's the kind of situation that would warrant the release of this kind of statement of illegal profile sharing by bolt.

You people don't even know that the reason Bolt release that information is to avoid any legal responsibility for his death, his family cannot come tomorrow and sue Bolt for financial compensation for his death because he was operating illegally.

The murder suspect were arrested immediately, which is a good deterrent to other perpetrators. In Nigeria, so many Uber and Bolt incidents unresolved. May God helps this country Nigeria.
There are unresolved cases all over the world. It’s people like you that have pushed that guy to doom…. Anywhere but Nigeria! You see where anywhere but Nigeria don pushed the young kid?

He would still be alive now if nah Nigeria..

I told you guys they will twist the narrative, the time those criminals will be release you won't even know. I slid into south Africa comment section 98.9% of them were happy even calling for release of the suspects even calling them heroes even making a mockery that the guy deserved to die as if he is animal, zero chill zero feelings just bloody lunatics supporting murderers.. if you think this people like you just know you are deceiving yourself ... Now tell me the difference between boko haram and south Africans, boko haram killed without sympathy, South Africans killed and glorifies killers, they are same but with different dimensions..

I said it earlier that their leaders failed them , every black south African should've subjected to mental evaluation and rehabilitation after the apartheid because what I observed here, they are suffering from what I called apartheid mentality syndrome, it affects them to the extent they see every living black as enemy, i will rather live in Sokoto and Maiduguri than tk step my foot there
Re: Bolt SA Confirms Slain Nigerian Driver Was Operating Illegally by phadasinfo: 7:16am On Feb 18
That doesn’t justify killing him and why put this out there? Are you trying to give the culprits an excuse for the murder? Cos they could easily say they fear they where being kidnapped since the drivers profile is different from the one on Bolt
What exactly has this information got to do with his getting killed?
Re: Bolt SA Confirms Slain Nigerian Driver Was Operating Illegally by RandDigital(op): 7:19am On Feb 18
Urgent1Million:
Yes.
The owner of the profile would have been held responsible.
And that's the kind of situation that would warrant the release of this kind of statement of illegal profile sharing by bolt.
You mean there'd be absolutely no culpability on Bolt if an unregistered driver killed a client and that they wouldn't be susceptible to lawsuits for not fool-proofing their app against unregistered drivers. Also think of the reputational damage this would cause.
