What benefits does your company give you apart from salary and HMO? I've been talking to people and it seems like most Nigerian companies offer basically nothing — no food allowance, no transport, no gym, no learning budget. Some of my friends at bigger companies get all of this. Is it just a big company thing or are some startups doing it too? What would you want your company to offer if you could choose?

Re: Benefits: Has Anyone Experienced This Working In A Nigerian Company? by samwash(m): 6:58pm On Feb 18
Food allowance
Transport allowance
Clothing allowance
Hazard allowance
Etc
When you check your salary structure/brake down , they are all in side it and make up your whole salary, before it's been tax

My company dey give us profit sharing each year( Bonus) , Leave grant, gives us incentive, if you qualify for it almost on a monthly basis.
From time to time, they schedule us for training and pay us training allowance, thirteenth month by December .
As times goes on anyone I remember,I add to it.

Wow, this makes a lot of sense, you dey ball o. Profit sharing, leave allowance, training support, and a thirteenth-month salary — your company is doing very well. But honestly, how many companies in Nigeria actually offer all of this? Especially startups and small private companies. Most people I’ve spoken to say they only receive their salary and HMO, and that’s it. No food allowance, no transport support, no training budget, nothing.

So the real question is — do only people who work in big, well-structured companies deserve these benefits? Or is there a way to make them accessible to everyone?

Lol you're proving my point exactly. That's the problem — everybody has just accepted that if you no work for "top company" you no suppose expect anything. But think about am, you dey spend your own money on food every day, transport every day, data, gym if you go. That one fit reach ₦50K-₦80K every month easy.

I know Cowrywise for sure give free lunch to their employees and some other benefits which I can really remember. I've also seen other companies provide something like learning budget for each employees, I think we've normalized not getting these things here in Nigeria in most companies, and this is really bad.

What if your company fit give you access to all those things at cheaper rates, and e no even cost them anything

Guy, I'm in Nigeria but that doesn't mean we shouldn't demand better from our employers na, you can see other guys comment about getting 13th month salary, profit sharing among other things, most of these employers can offer these things but choose not to or don't even care

My guy got a job with Julius Berger and a flag man.. he was on probation for 6months and after waning his first salary, govt declared everyone to stay indoors , that is in 2020 covid era.

Berger gave all of them transport allowance of 30k each to their different home..

He was so sad as he returned home ND wondered how he will survive covid lockdown with funds..

When it was exactly one month, he received alert from Berger , half his salary without going to work all month.. he continue to receive that same income for the next 8months until they were asked to resume.

When he resumed, after 2 months , his status was normalized ND his salary doubled.. he worked there until tinubu came in and started victimizing Berger.

Took all their contract or refused to give them more ND gradually never shed half her field worker and terminated their jobs...

Now he drives shuttle bus..

The mistake,we make is not studying the employment contract very well. The worst are media houses especially newspaper houses.I was disengaged after 19 years and 7 months with only a month salary no gratuity not knowing it was stated in the handbook on employment from the firm given to me one month salary on disengagement or you give them one month on resignation. The only consolation was the little change in my retirement savings account with ibtc pension fund.
