I don’t think many understand the impact of the new electoral act on Atiku. Indirect primaries have been abolished. It is now 1 man 1 vote. The days of delegates and dollar rain are over. This is a serious injury to Atiku.

Obi’s chances of clinching the ADC ticket just shot up from 0% to 35%. That’s the good news for Obidients.

The bad news is: if Obi gets the ticket, it’s a guaranteed landslide victory for Tinubu.

Why? If Obi can convince delegates to vote for him at the primaries why can't he win the general elections? If you can win primaries without being aided then you stand a good chance of winning the elections.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has withdrawn the alleged money laundering suit it filed at the Federal High Court against Lagos Speaker Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa.

Naija News understands that the anti-graft did not give any particular reason for its application for withdrawal.

Following the application to withdraw, Justice Nicholas Oweibo discharged the ‘lien/Post No Debit’ placed on Obasa’s three accounts in Standard Chartered Bank.

The accounts are (US Dollars) 0001852063; (Current) 0001852056 and (Saving) 5002309624.

The judge also set aside the ex-parte orders he made on September 15, 2020, which led to the freezing of the accounts.

Recall that the court on September 15, 2020, granted an interim order freezing Obasa’s accounts following the EFCC’s application in a suit marked FHC/LCS/1064/2020.

The agency had said it was investigating the Speaker for the alleged offences of conspiracy, diversion of funds, abuse of office and money laundering.

But Justice Oweibo, on August 16, 2023, heard the application to unfreeze the accounts in his chamber.

During the hearing, the EFCC was represented by Mr. Sulaiman I. Sulaiman, while Obasa was represented by Mr. Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika (SAN).

The EFCC lawyer told the court that the application to unfreeze the accounts was pursuant to Section 44(2)(K) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and Sections 26, 29 and 34 (1) of the EFCC (Establishment) Act, 2004, and under the court’s inherent jurisdiction.

Section 44 of the Constitution concerns constitutional rights to property.

Justice Oweibo held: “It is hereby ordered that an order is hereby granted to the respondent/applicant setting aside the ex-parte orders of this court made on the 15th day of September 2020 upon the ex-parte motion of the Applicant/ Respondent in relation the funds of the Respondent/Applicant domiciled in the accounts stated in the following schedule:

“ACCOUNT NAME, FINANCIAL ACCOUNT INSTITUTIONS, TYPE OF ACCOUNT, 1. Mudasiru Ajayi Obasa, Standard Chartered, (US Dollars) 0001852063 2. Mudasiru Ajayi Obasa, Standard Chartered (Current) 0001852056 3. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, Standard Chartered (Saving) 5002309624.

“Issued at Lagos, under the seal of this Honourable Court and by the hands of the Presiding Judge this 16th day of August 2023.”

In this day and age, I don’t believe I need to explain to anyone why Obi can’t win a head to head against Tinubu. To do so would be going back to retake introduction to Nigerian politics 101 course.

Winning any kind of primaries effortlessly is an indication of electoral value.

Who said he is winning any primaries effortlessly? You people should also learn to critically analyze situations without using emotive language. The minute you start using emotive language, then you are consciously or unconsciously introducing your bias into your analysis.

Secondly, read and understand. That the chances of you clinching the ticket rises from 0 to 35% does not suggest he will win or that his win if he does will be effortless. All it means is that with the new law his chances have increased where previously he had none.


That said, in the event he wins the primaries, Obi Cannot win a presidential election against Tinubu. He can’t win a presidential election full stop.

1) Northern//Ibo history
2) If Nigeria is to elect an Ibo president, he is the wrong type of Ibo. He doesn’t sell in the North. Some people are just unelectable.
3) his history of disloyalty, abandonment and not keeping to agreements and the fact that he is not restricted to 1 term.
4) he needs a strong Northern figure as his vice. The 2 people that could have been possible vps have been more or less damaged by recent events. Kwakwanso declared a sponsor of terrorism by the U.S. and ElRufai’s recent travails.

The new law simply opens a window for Obi in the primaries by overwhelming ADC with Obidient registrations. Where previously he had no chance. However in the event he wins, the majority of core ADC members will work against him or cut a deal with Tinubu. Just listen to some of the comments from core ADC members, it is an uneasy alliance, there is already a them v us mentality. ADC members do not like Obi or the Obidients, they are only fraternizing with him for SE votes but not at the expense of him becoming president.
