Man found hiding in cannabis factory claimed he didn’t know what the plants were

Concerns had been raised about the property and police carried out a raid on August 13 last year.

Upon entry officers discovered almost every room was full of cannabis plants – and Ngyuen hidden away.

In his interview the 39-year-old – who originally gave an alias – claimed that he did not know what type of plant he was growing.

Sussex Police said this was “unlikely”.

Nguyen was later charged with abstracting/using electricity without authority, obstruct/resisting a constable in the execution of duty, being concerned in the production of a Class B drug, and for being concerned in the supply of a controlled Class B drug.

A jury at Brighton Crown Court last week returned a guilty verdict for the production of a Class B drug.

Nguyen was sentenced the same day to 18 months in prison.

The remaining offences were left to lie on file.

A Sussex Police spokesperson posted: “Officers found Hung Nguyen hiding in the loft of a house that was being used as a cannabis factory in Hove.

“Nguyen claimed he didn’t know what plant he was growing, but we thought that was rather unlikely.

“With 437 plants and 5kg of cannabis seized, Nguyen is now behind bars.”
