Nigerian music star Bella Shmurda has sparked reactions online after claiming he is biologically related to fellow artiste Adekunle Gold.

The “Cash App” crooner, whose real name is Abiola Ahmed Akinbiyi, made the revelation via his account on X (formerly Twitter), stating that he recently discovered the family connection.

“Just found out Adekunle GOLD is my uncle, Iga Kosoko mo foh oo small world,” he wrote. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

The statement quickly generated buzz among fans and social media users, with many expressing surprise at the alleged relationship between the two popular musicians.

While Bella Shmurda did not provide further details about how they are related, the mention of “Kosoko” in his post has fueled speculation about possible family ties linked to the Kosoko lineage, a prominent name in Lagos history.

As of the time of filing this report, Adekunle Gold, born Adekunle Kosoko, has not publicly reacted to the claim.

Both artistes are among Nigeria’s leading contemporary music acts, known for their distinct sounds and influence in the Afrobeats scene.

Hey, hold it right there, Chinedu! There are many true owners of Lagos, and yes, the Kosoko family is one of us. Trust me, as a blue-blood from Isale-Eko, I would rather have Iragbiji people claim ownership of Lagos than have strangers from a far-away land—people with whom I share nothing in common—calling my ancestral home a no man’s land and trying to force ownership on it.

As a Yoruba man, I can claim anywhere I want within the six states of the South-West. We are all the same people from a single source. So, leave the Iragbiji people and Lagos alone. You should be more concerned about what is happening in your own region.
