Two Bank Security Guards Lose Their Jobs After Sharing ₦20,000 ATM Cash by alphonsojidebab(op): 9:18am On Feb 20
Sometimes, the way people steal at the workplace, you just wonder what they were thinking.

Two security men just lost their jobs at a bank because of 20k.

According to the gist, a customer went to the ATM on a weekend to withdraw cash. After entering the amount, the machine didn’t dispense the money immediately, so he assumed the transaction failed, took his card, and left.

After a few minutes, the ATM dispensed the cash
.

The security man on duty saw the cash, picked it up, and took it to the Chief Security Officer.

Instead of logging it properly, the man shared the money, gave his colleague 10k and kept 10k for himself.

The following week, the customer noticed he had been debited and went to the bank to complain.

They checked and told him the transaction was successful, that the cash was dispensed on the same day.

He kept going back and forth, insisting he never received the money.

Eventually, the bank manager decided to review the CCTV footage for that day.

That was when everything was exposed.

Both men were asked to leave their jobs immediately, all because of 20k.

Imagine losing your source of livelihood over peanuts.

If salary is not enough, overtime is never enough.

Two security personnel attached to a commercial bank have reportedly been dismissed after allegedly sharing ₦20,000 that was mistakenly dispensed by an Automated Teller Machine (ATM).

The incident, which gained attention on X (formerly Twitter), has triggered widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians debating workplace integrity, accountability, and the consequences of poor judgment. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

According to details shared by a user on the social media platform, a bank customer had visited the ATM gallery during the weekend to withdraw cash.

After initiating a transaction, the machine reportedly delayed releasing the money. Assuming the withdrawal had failed, the customer removed his debit card and left the premises.

However, shortly after the customer departed, the ATM dispensed the requested ₦20,000.

It was alleged that two security guards on duty at the location noticed the unattended cash, took possession of it, and later shared the money between themselves instead of reporting the incident to bank officials.

Sources claimed that the issue came to light after the affected customer later discovered that his bank account had been debited despite not receiving the cash.

Following a review of the ATM footage, the guards were reportedly identified and subsequently relieved of their duties by the bank management.

While the bank involved has not officially commented on the development, the story has continued to generate mixed reactions, with some Nigerians condemning the guards’ actions while others questioned whether dismissal was too severe considering the amount involved.

The development has sparked conversations about ethics in the workplace, particularly for employees in sensitive positions that require a high level of trust.

Some commentators argued that honesty should not be determined by the amount involved, while others expressed sympathy, citing economic hardship and low wages often associated with private security jobs.

They are not smart, probably why they ended up as security guards.
Haven't they stayed long enough at the job to know that CCTV covers all activities there?

I've classified 99% of Nigerians into three categories - hypocritical, criminal or opportunistic.

Even those who you think haven't stolen before seem so because they haven't been tested yet!

Where do you think today's thieves came from?

They were yesterday's 20 k thieves.

They got away scot free because Nigerians like you begged on their behalf. Please forgive them, it is only 20k and what about the big people that have stole?

That is how we have been excusing small theft. And we are surprised we end up with big thieves today.

Make Dem prosecute them. Before they become tomorrow's stealers of 200 billion naira.

And yes, prosecute the big thieves. But as we know, Nigerians too will excuse them with 'are they the only one', why are you attacking our tribe?

That is how we have been excusing thieves in this country from time inmemmorial.

🤣They quickly converted it to personal use....

Unfortunately, they'll get jobs somewhere else cos no adequate database for such in 9ja...all they'll do is remove that bank from their CVs.

Unless of course they get gigs that require being vetted by the DSS....tbh any securityman should be vetted before employment.

I don't know if that was racism or something but something like this happened to me in Dubai. The ATM malfunctioned for a bit and I had to rush back to my location at work. An Arab man picked the cash afterwards. After so much complaints, CCTV was reviewed, mall CID called and the man was traced. He clearly didn't want to give the money back and police told he didn't steal it. I had to pay for his Uber to com drop the cash, though he stays a walking distance from the mall

Is it security guards alone? All their executives and bosses are also thieves. My GTbank account is still in negative of close to 300k today because GTbank was debiting my account even while money wasn't there and they were just waiting for the right time. After I paid in a 100k, it was taken and I logged in to see -296k still pending.
I called their customer care, they gave silly excuses of transactions I never initiated, no records of it in the transaction history, no email notification, no SMS notifications, no PIN request or any notice and these multiple transactions 3-4 went on without my knowledge. I went to the branch close to my house up to 5times without clear explanation, I escalated it verbally to the senior staff behind cashier but surprisingly he refused to check my account for clarifications! They all knew what was going on and they did this to many of their customers. The lady customer care from head office stopped picking my calls.
I wish GTbank luck going forward and I forgo my 100k they stole but the -296k will be there forever! I have never borrowed money from them in my life.
I escalated it to CBN via complaint email but still no resolution. I got tired and left it. This was my first GTbank and Bank Account opened around 2002/2003 in my undergraduate days and dey made me to forgo that account just like that...

How do you know that this is a fake story? Is it a new thing that people steal in their places of work and are dishonest?

Or is it news that dragon and snake swallowed 20 billion in 2018 that has altered how you think?
