Mike Igini, former resident electoral commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), says he regrets spending 10 years with the electoral body.

Speaking during an interview on Arise News, Igini highlighted the longstanding resistance to fair elections and the personal risks involved, including the killing of his colleague in Kano for attempting to “do the right thing.”

“I spent over 30 years of my life, including 10 practical years in INEC, working to remove the history of our elections from the realm of frustration and pain, so we can give meaning and purpose to the ballot as the best means of expressing the will of the people in a democracy.

To now find out that all that we did was in vain, that’s why I regret that I wasted my 10 years in service of the fatherland because I’d have been a dead man by now.

“However, I would have been a dead man pursuing this cause; my colleague in Kano was killed because we wanted to do the right thing for Nigeria. His entire family wiped out.”
He raised concerns about recently proposed amendments to the Electoral Act, cautioning that they could expose presiding officers to severe threats at polling units if approved by the president.

Igini decried the “level of hypocrisy” among those involved in Nigeria’s elections, describing his efforts as ultimately wasted in the face of systemic challenges. As an advocate for electoral integrity, Igini emphasised the need to protect the democratic process and ensure the ballot truly reflects the people’s will.

It is actually painful. E-voting and transmission of result is possible. Those who inherited a better form of electioneering had mad it worst and worst. Imagine everyone in the APC kicking against BVAS, IREv and technology that can minimize electoral criminality and deepens the democratic process.

Till today! Telcos are still telling the Senate that they are capable of e transmission of election results across the length and breath of Nigeria. Imagine these are the industry players talking not a corrupt rubber-stamped stooges criminals manipulating a country to feather their own nests.

Mike Igini was a politician planted by opposition parties in INEC. How he managed to get in without proper vetting is still a mystery. What is actually paining him is that the person he spent most of his career at INEC trying to destroy, is now the number three person in the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

”We assure INEC of our full support towards using electronic voting in 2015. We also appeal to all other political parties, Civil Society Organizations and indeed all Nigerians to join us in pushing for a system that will eliminate the role of thugs and sideline vote thieves during our elections, in addition to making our elections free, fair and credible.

"...While electronic voting is not a magic wand, it is the surest way yet for Nigeria to join the league of countries that have wiped out electoral fraud, which is the worst form of corruption.

It is also the best way to hand over Nigeria’s elections back to Nigerians, instead of having the judiciary determine who wins what contest....."

This is when Tinubu was advocating for the same issue Igini is worried about. Today, he is against it because he can get in without electoral criminality. Get sense!

Imagine this man was made the electoral umpire, there would have been a glimpse of hope for Nigeria. He was known to have prevented heavy rigging of election in Akwaibom state....despite the inducement, he stood firm against Akpabio's senatorial conquest

The BVAS does not need network to scan and upload the result sheet to iREV. The only thing voters need to do is to make sure the INEC Presiding Officer don't leave the Polling Unit until he has sent the scanned result sheet to the iREV Port. And every agent must ensure they have a copy of the result sheet uploaded in their presence;

I guess it’s too late for the Ayédèrú chameleon to change his dubious, dishonest ways.

The chameleonic way that landed him the top job in Nigeria 🇳🇬.

My dad, victim of complex conspiracy – Kola Abiola

What role did Bola Tinubu play in all of these?

At the very beginning, he was part of the Yar’Adua PF group from Jos. He was a senator then, and as far as the group went, we related. The crisis started post-election. When Abacha came, one of the things he wanted to do was to be the administrator for Lagos.

That is Tinubu?

Yes. I am sure you have seen pictures of him and my dad. He was hoping that there would be civilian administrators like we had under IBB but Abacha said no, that he was going to have military administrators. So he (Tinubu) said okay, in that case, can I be a deputy administrator? But Abacha said that there wouldn’t be deputies. Then he wanted the post of a commissioner.

He wanted to be a commissioner?

Yes. Then it was a choice between him and someone very close to Jakande who has passed on now. I can’t remember his name, but because Babagana was already in the government, that guy was picked as commissioner. But really, Senator Tinubu had lost out already.

Was Tinubu very close to MKO?

Yes, he was close enough. He and Adeniyi Adele, a very good guy, were close to my father. In fact, Adeniyi was closer to my father and more dedicated to the process than anyone of them. When my documentary comes out, you will see Tinubu’s take on issues. So once he lost out, automatically, he became a NADECO member and Adeniyi was incarcerated.

When are you sending EFCC, ICPC, DSS, ONSA etc to investigate him and lock him up since he has refused to join Oshiomhole’s Assembly of Past Criminals, APC huh

chisomkachy:
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has withdrawn the alleged money laundering suit it filed at the Federal High Court against Lagos Speaker Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa.

Naija News understands that the anti-graft did not give any particular reason for its application for withdrawal.

Following the application to withdraw, Justice Nicholas Oweibo discharged the ‘lien/Post No Debit’ placed on Obasa’s three accounts in Standard Chartered Bank.

The accounts are (US Dollars) 0001852063; (Current) 0001852056 and (Saving) 5002309624.

The judge also set aside the ex-parte orders he made on September 15, 2020, which led to the freezing of the accounts.

Recall that the court on September 15, 2020, granted an interim order freezing Obasa’s accounts following the EFCC’s application in a suit marked FHC/LCS/1064/2020.

The agency had said it was investigating the Speaker for the alleged offences of conspiracy, diversion of funds, abuse of office and money laundering.

But Justice Oweibo, on August 16, 2023, heard the application to unfreeze the accounts in his chamber.

During the hearing, the EFCC was represented by Mr. Sulaiman I. Sulaiman, while Obasa was represented by Mr. Adeyinka Olumide-Fusika (SAN).

The EFCC lawyer told the court that the application to unfreeze the accounts was pursuant to Section 44(2)(K) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) and Sections 26, 29 and 34 (1) of the EFCC (Establishment) Act, 2004, and under the court’s inherent jurisdiction.

Section 44 of the Constitution concerns constitutional rights to property.

Justice Oweibo held: “It is hereby ordered that an order is hereby granted to the respondent/applicant setting aside the ex-parte orders of this court made on the 15th day of September 2020 upon the ex-parte motion of the Applicant/ Respondent in relation the funds of the Respondent/Applicant domiciled in the accounts stated in the following schedule:

“ACCOUNT NAME, FINANCIAL ACCOUNT INSTITUTIONS, TYPE OF ACCOUNT, 1. Mudasiru Ajayi Obasa, Standard Chartered, (US Dollars) 0001852063 2. Mudasiru Ajayi Obasa, Standard Chartered (Current) 0001852056 3. Mudashiru Ajayi Obasa, Standard Chartered (Saving) 5002309624.

“Issued at Lagos, under the seal of this Honourable Court and by the hands of the Presiding Judge this 16th day of August 2023.”

One of the most outstanding public servants. Man with integrity, character and competence.

Tinubu can never appoint someone like this because Igini will never allow criminality to thrive.

Ask Akpabio what he saw with Mike Igini

I saw this man on AriseTv the other day talking about Nigeria being 92/93% of network coverage b4 2023 election & that inec was ready for e-transmission of results but the judiciary is the main problem saying it up to the Presiding Officer to determine the mode of transmission of results.

Listen to yourself. All inec appointed officials are selected by politicians. RECs and National commissioners are selected by Governors and powerful senators. and a very few from academia selected also by presidency who are still politicians.

Reappointment is also dependent on how the sitting government gauges your alignment to thier course.

Don't make Igini's case a peculiar one.
