It's fake story. ATM does not operate that way.
It has to dispense first before giving you your card. Once your card is out without dispensing ,Atm will never dispense that money.
People will just come out and fabricate a story forgetting that there are ATM technicians and other ATM workers

Kimo21:
How do you know that this is a fake story? Is it a new thing that people steal in their places of work and are dishonest?

Or is it news that dragon and snake swallowed 20 billion in 2018 that has altered how you think?

Oga some people here have worked in a bank before….atms can give these kind of errors if not properly maintained or encryption security goes wrong… don’t assume you know without inquiring properly.

99% of Nigerians or all humans? You think people in other climes don't commit crimes?

SmartPolician:
I've classified 99% of Nigerians into three categories - hypocritical, criminal or opportunistic.

Even those who you think haven't stolen before seem so because they haven't been tested yet!

They are not smart, probably why they ended up as security guards.
Haven't they stayed long enough at the job to know that CCTV covers all activities there?
It's not smart. When you have integrity issue, you would throw caution to the wind and forget that even if no one sees you even CCTV cameras may not see you, Almighty God would reward you for your work .

Sacking them is not enough. They should be prosecuted and jailed.
It's enough, a security tried to rob my workplace about 6 years ago. Prosecution even for major stealing would involve wasting office hours going to court. Sometimes, it's best to leave matters to God.

Why did the machine function like thathuh
I don't know the reason for the malfunction, but I have seen that happen.

If it's on twitter, it's a lie.

I'm not saying it can happen, but once the story emanates from twitter, its cheap lies
It can happen. I have seen machine do that and if the security are not wise, they may jeopardize their jobs.

Useless banks, why didn’t the atm dispense immediately?
Both the bank and the security guards are to blame!
Oga any machine can malfunction. I have seen a machine do that before. The bank cannot be held liable for a machine malfunction. What matters most is who collected the money and who would pay. If a customer collect that money, the bank staff would pay even when they are not at fault.

Hmm...

But there's supposed to be a message at the end before you remove your card...
Haven't used one for over 2 years now anyway.

Fabricated story. The machine will release the cash first before the card.

As someone who has handled machines for over ten years I can tell you for sure that older machines can't do that, but newer machines can do that.

Did they refund the 20k before leaving or was it part of their severance package?

Yes,machines can malfunction, but we can’t rule out the incompetence of these traditional banks, and their inefficiencies..
Before the arrival of fintechs like opay and moniepoint, can you be about 90% confident enough to depend on your mobile app to make transactions and get the alert immediately without delay? NO,these fintechs proved them wrong.

I have never have problems doing transactions with any traditional banks. And the fintechs don't invest in heavy physical infrastructure like bank branches or ATM machines which are still needed in today's world by any serious business man.

You can’t have issues with traditional banks when you do just two or three transactions daily! Ask people who are doing 20 transactions upwards daily to tell you, traditional banks FAILED WOEFULLY,during cashless policy..

This is 2026,countries are shifting to cashless, who needs physical infrastructures anymore? To do what exactly? Their licenses are enough already!

Can you compare how reliable POS operators are to the ATM of a bank?

Can you see any pos operator using traditional bank pos?

Don’t even attempt to compare these fintechs with traditional banks, there is absolutely no bases for comparison

The image there looks Ai generated. Nigerian bank’s security men don’t wear all Red like that.
The pic was probably it there for illustration, it does not necessarily mean that they were the actual guards involved in the theft

Hmmmm.

You think being smart is the issue?

Integrity is the issue here. Some people including the writer says they guys lost their job because of 20k.

These two comments reveal a disturbing thought process.

Please bear in mind, the smartest of criminals will always get caught, however long it takes. A criminal is one mistake away from being caught. Crime doesn't pay.

Secondly, they didn't lose their job because of 20k, they lost it because they lack trust and integrity, such may even arrange for the bank to be robbed.

They must have been doing it before they eventually got nabbed.

Money can do so much but it is better to earn it legitimately and with peace of mind

Where do you think today's thieves came from?

They were yesterday's 20 k thieves.

They got away scot free because Nigerians like you begged on their behalf. Please forgive them, it is only 20k and what about the big people that have stole?

That is how we have been excusing small theft. And we are surprised we end up with big thieves today.

Make Dem prosecute them. Before they become tomorrow's stealers of 200 billion naira.

And yes, prosecute the big thieves. But as we know, Nigerians too will excuse them with 'are they the only one', why are you attacking our tribe?

That is how we have been excusing thieves in this country from time inmemmorial.
The law that catches small thieves should also catch the big one. That’s how it should be

The point is older machines above 10 y5don't have this error. Newer machines do malfunction. And reason being older machines are mainly German machines. Some newer machines are Chinese version of it. Obviously, the quality has gone down.

And you think you are talking to a novice? Oga ATM operates now with CARD B4 CASH and not CASH B4 CARD. And this has been in place since 2007. When you say anything can go wrong. What can simply go wrong in ATM is when Atm overpay or underpay but you see every other thing at the BACKEND has been taken care of.
