Now,if the suspect dies in their custody and they got arrested, people would be saying that they should be released because,they killed a thief.
They should be arrested for assault.
The man is not guilty,until proven So by a court of competent jurisdiction.

What's the difference between the caught thief and those other thieves yet to be caught but parading and beating the caught thief, they are all the same.

You will be surprise that some of those people might even be the buyers of the stolen goods..anyway, it's who is caught at the point of stealing they call thieves. Like you said, it's better to hand him over to the Police for justice, then who even trust police this days, another thief in authority......naija na cruise....i tire....
