🗳️ Race for AMAC: Six Titans, One Chair — Who Will Shape Abuja’s Urban Future?

The political heat is rising in Nigeria’s capital territory as the race for the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) chairmanship takes center stage today. With the 2026 council elections holding today, six dynamic figures from different political and professional backgrounds are locked in a high-stakes contest for who will occupy the driver’s seat of one of the most influential local governments in Nigeria.

This election isn’t just about personalities — it’s a referendum on ideologies, youth inclusion, grassroots accountability, and governance models.

Let’s meet the contenders whose names will soon echo through ballots, barbershops, churches, and social media across the FCT.

✊🏾 ADC: Dr. Moses Paul – The Conscience of the Streets

Better known as Dr. Mo, this charismatic social entrepreneur and civic organizer is the ADC’s flagbearer. As the founder of the Free Nigeria Movement, Dr. Paul helped galvanize public resistance during the EndSARS protests and the 2023 push for electoral justice.

His campaign — pulsing with the slogan “We Don Taya!” — taps into a collective frustration with broken systems. With an influential endorsement from Peter Obi and Atiku, Dr. Paul now commands respect beyond party lines and has become a symbol of activist governance.

His X-Factor: Dr. Paul brings moral authority, youth energy, and deep grassroots organizing experience. He’s pushing a bottom-up revolution in AMAC governance — centered on transparency, citizen engagement, e-governance, and human capital investment. He is the political voice of civic frustration — and a bridge between Nigeria’s disillusioned youth and institutional power.

🏗️ APC: Christopher Zakka Maikalangu – The Incumbent With Concrete Evidence

As the current AMAC Chairman, Christopher Maikalangu knows the system from the inside out. His tenure has witnessed expansion in road networks, construction of rural health centers, and improvements in waste management.

With the APC’s massive machinery and his incumbency advantage, Maikalangu is anchoring his re-election campaign on continuity and consolidation.

His Message: “Let the work continue.”

His X-Factor: A proven track record. Maikalangu is leaning on experience, political structure, and government connections. His campaign is built around finishing what he started — with promises of scaling public infrastructure, deepening inter-agency synergy, and sustaining AMAC’s stability.

🔄 PDP: Zadna Dintani – The Alternative with a Legacy Machine

Representing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Zadna Dintani is offering AMAC voters an experienced hand with a fresh plan. His political roots run deep in the FCT’s PDP machinery, and he brings with him a formidable legacy of mobilization and strategic coalition-building.

His X-Factor: Dintani’s strength lies in party loyalty and strategic depth. He is poised to channel voters’ fatigue with the APC into a fresh momentum for reform. His campaign is focused on correcting policy gaps, ensuring inclusive governance, and revamping grassroots engagement.

🚀 YPP: Robert Madaki – The Digital Disruptor

Young, visionary, and digital-first, Robert Madaki is waving the YPP flag with an agenda that speaks directly to Abuja’s youth. His message? It’s time to stop recycling leaders and start rebooting governance.

His X-Factor: Madaki’s campaign is data-driven and social-media savvy, with a clear emphasis on youth employment, tech-driven service delivery, and inclusive innovation. If the youth turn out en masse, he could trigger one of the biggest political surprises in AMAC history.

🎤 SDP: Dr. Obinna Simon (MC Tagwaye) – The People’s Comedian, The People’s Candidate

A household name across Nigeria, MC Tagwaye — real name Dr. Obinna Simon — is best known for his comedic impersonation of President Buhari. But now, the mic is off, and the mandate is on.

Transitioning from stage to statecraft, Dr. Simon is campaigning on authentic grassroots connection. He combines mass appeal, emotional intelligence, and sharp wit to engage voters like no other candidate.

But beyond the humor, lies a serious movement:

✅ The Igbo community in Abuja has thrown its weight behind their illustrious son, viewing his candidacy as a source of cultural pride and political relevance.
✅ The Northern communities in AMAC have adopted Dr. Obinna as one of their own — embracing his inclusive style and pan-Nigerian message.
✅ The youth — disenchanted by political gatekeeping — are undeniably rallying behind the entertainer-turned-hopeful, drawn by his relatability, simplicity, and grassroots credibility.

His X-Factor: Charisma, connection, and clarity. Dr. Obinna Simon is running not just on promises, but on emotional resonance — capable of translating complex governance issues into relatable stories. His campaign speaks the language of the people — in humor, in hope, and in the hunger for real change.

⚖️ AMAC 2026: A Battle of Visions, Not Just Votes

This is more than a local government election. This is a defining moment for the soul of Abuja’s governance.

Will it be:

✊🏾 Activist governance with Dr. Moses Paul (ADC)

🏗️ Continuity and structure with Maikalangu (APC)

🔄 A political reset with Zadna Dintani (PDP)

🚀 A youth-powered reboot with Robert Madaki (YPP)

🎤 Grassroots people power with Dr. Obinna Simon (SDP)

In 2026, AMAC’s 1.5 million residents are not just choosing a chairman — they’re choosing a leadership philosophy, a voice for their communities, and the shape of Abuja’s urban future.

The campaign drums are beating. The youth are awake. The streets are watching.
And AMAC’s next chapter is ready to be written — at the ballot box.

It looks as though only the ADC are campaigning. Vocal opposition is good for democracy. I'm waiting for the outcome of the election.

You have oil 🪔 in your head, bro👏.
The OP is so biased and can not keep his emblem by his meterioric perverseness.
It is easy to discuss Politics in the Corner of our House or our Room, but those living in Abuja can tell you the difference between now and before and how they see the Future through their Votes.
Let's beg our Junk- Journalists in the Nigerian Press,to remove biases because of their selfish and Brown 🟤 Envelope ✉️ designs.
Let the Majority Votes Rules the People.
That Is How DEMOCRACY WORKS.

Nigeria election is by money bag ooh. No be by integrity. I see APC paying N30k per vote. Nigerians always go to election to sell vote. Later will shout bad government when actually bad government and corruption started by the electorate selling their vote

Since it's INEC conducting the election, at least we would opposition winning seats. Unlike the sham LG elections done by state governors. Elrufai is the only governor in recent time who conducted elections and opposition parties won several seats because he deployed electronic voting. One of the first things his successor did was to do away with evoting and the state rejoined its peers in rigging LG polls

It's a huge test for the competence of the biggest rigging machine in Nigeria's history, His rigxelency, Ezengwongwo Nye-ye-3-some Wiked, the executive result changer.
His best slogan is "rewrite the results let them go to court".
I hope Abuja people are ready to defend their votes!
