Peter Obi May Be Pushing For Direct Primaries In ADC – Bashir Ahmad by Segunbabba(op): 9:29am On Feb 21
A former aide to the late ex-President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmad, has alleged that there are clear indications that Peter Obi and his supporters may be pushing for the adoption of direct primaries within the African Democratic Congress, ADC.

Ahmad’s comment comes as the National Assembly removed the option of direct primaries for all political parties in Nigeria.

The amendment was assented to on Thursday by President Bola Tinubu, effectively ending the provision for direct primaries in Nigeria’s electoral framework.

Reacting, Ahmad posted on X: “There were clear indications that Peter Obi and his supporters were pushing for the adoption of direct primaries within the ADC.

The National Assembly erased the option of direct primaries for all political parties and the amendment was today assented to by President Bola Tinubu.

This is wrong. The President signed into law a bill removing indirect primaries where selected delegates, in a system open to bribery and corruption that favours the likes of Atiku, choose the candidate of a party.

Now, direct Primaries is mandatory meaning all registered members of a Party, and not delegates alone, can vote for who will be their flag-bearer. Bribery of delegates, the go-to option of Atiku, gone overnight.

Obi can now test his popularity with ADC members themselves. This will be the beginning of showing he has approval from Party level even before he gets to seek the votes of Nigerians.

Direct primaries can only be substituted for consensus selection of Party candidate if all contestants are in agreement with that option.

Massive kudos to PBAT. We will see Obi and Obidients excuses when the Agulu charlatan fails to get ADC ticket since we are told Obi is popular at grassroots but "bribed delegates" stand in his way.

Now grassroot will be involved and will have a say per who will be ADC candidate. Good luck to Obi and Obidients. 😎

Correct. Long overdue. Now, no candidate can cite bribing of delegates as reason they did not win their Party's Primaries.

Candidate will buy candidates 😩💰🤣😂😅

Meanwhile , Violence and rigging go choke then court cases go surplus after that primaries 😅😂🤣. Disaster loading 📌💯. We've seen where candidate pools 10M votes in direct primaries but failed to get 100k votes on election day 🤣😂😅.

All candidates must consent to consensus options. Unlike when Political Parties forced it on everyone.

My understanding is that if even one candidate rejects consensus options then direct primaries it is.

Meaning, ultimately, there is not excuse for Obi this year as he has been given the helping hand to stand his ground, fight and emerge victorious.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (PBAT)
Nwoke di Oranma of SE
ASIWAJU of SW
Jagaban Borgu of Northern Nigeria

Na you do this 1😁

The god of Naija Politics
Destroyer of secceccionists and bandits
Nightmare and Tormentor of Kanu and Obi supporters.

Daluu

True patriotic citizens(not secceccionists turned emergency citizens) love you and support your transformative policies that's turning our country around for good.

Even though it's not yet UHURU and the positive effects of your policies are gradually been felt, we know that by the time you're through with your tenure in '31 all Nigerians including the evil, bitter, hateful secceccionists, will praise you for your good works.

So May the patriotic citizens who support and wish your government well, continue to prosper and reap the good benefits of your policies.

Meanwhile, continue to cause misery and emotional pains to the hate-filled online mob. May they never know peace as they hate you for defeating them repeatedly.

Pepper 🌶️ Dem, PBAT pepper 🌶️ Dem ooh

Don't mind them. Lies, propaganda, fake news and conjectures are what they turn to in effort to portray their Agulu messiah a "victim" of the machinations of others.

Now Obi has to contest. He has boxed himself into a corner joining ADC because he must win the Party's primaries as there will be no viable option of fleeing to seek another platform if he fails.

Wether you vote or you no vote. We are going to collect 5k from the polling unit on election Day and we will allow tinubu to rigg the election. Simple

Removing indirect voting system in our primary elections is the masterpiece of the new electoral law.

God bless the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Few people can not be deciding our destiny.

Jagaban, you do this one!

Someone like obi can now dream of winning, otherwise, Atiku needs not be present at the election venue to tear him to pieces 😂

What is if it has been APC plan all along.. And must have sent their members to register in ADC ... So if your obedient, u must register as ADC member and if the registration is not on now... Just know that APC has already cheated...

I'd be overjoyed too if Obi emerged ADC candidate, as his loss to Jagaban by 12:00 noon on election day is assured, but such is unlikely to happen as Atiku is very desperate to emerge ADC candidate since this is his last attempt to become President.

ADC is the fiefdom of Atiku and his fellow imperialistic born-to-rule Northern supremacist and hegemonists.

It is the indirect primary while Direct and consensus mode appended by the President.

I can't agree less with you.

I know obi is a lily livered boy, once Atiku approaches him to step down, he will do so without hesitation.

He's a yes man.

If he doesn't push for direct primary, the only and available option is "Consensus Primary". The new electoral law is clear. Obi is only stating the obvious. There's no more indirect primary as per the new law.

Nigerians or the overfed politicians?

Let me know before I know how to put you in your right place.

Re: Peter Obi May Be Pushing For Direct Primaries In ADC – Bashir Ahmad by kaludestiny10(m): 12:51pm On Feb 21
Tinubu and his legislative boys deliberately removed the indirect primary clause in the electoral act in order to weaken the opposition political party ADC.
They know fully well that those that want to contest for the presidential election under ADC don't want to step down for anyone, so be removing the indirect primary, the only option left for them is the direct primary which will lead to a total breakdown in relationship among the contestant.
