A disturbing incident has emerged in Delta State, where a 17-year-old girl reportedly staged her own kidnapping with the help of friends and extorted ₦500,000 from her mother. According to the Delta State Police Command, the teenager orchestrated the fake abduction and demanded ransom from her unsuspecting mother, who is said to depend on farming to provide for her family. Eyes Of Lagos reports, Police authorities disclosed that after receiving the money, the suspect allegedly spent the proceeds on clothing and other personal items, leaving her mother devastated both emotionally and financially. In a statement issued by the command, officials condemned the act and stressed the importance of proper parental upbringing and monitoring of children’s activities. “She connived with her friends, faked her own kidnap, and extorted a ransom of ₦500,000 from her innocent mother who does farming jobs in the village to feed,” the statement read. The police used the incident to caution parents and guardians to pay closer attention to their children’s behaviour, peer groups, and lifestyle choices. Authorities emphasised that early guidance, discipline, and value orientation remain critical in preventing young people from engaging in criminal or deceptive acts that could destroy their future. “Train your children so they don’t end up becoming a problem to you and society,” the command warned. The case has triggered conversations about youth behaviour, parental supervision, and societal influence, particularly in both rural and urban communities where teenagers may be exposed to peer pressure and materialistic lifestyles. Security experts note that such incidents highlight the need for stronger family bonds, community mentorship, and moral education to prevent similar occurrences. Investigations into the matter are ongoing, and authorities have not ruled out possible charges against other individuals involved in the scheme. https://eyesoflagos.com/2026/02/21/17-year-old-girl-fakes-kidnap-extorts-%e2%82%a6500000-from-mother-in-delta/

The moral decadence of society always displays in different forms. We need to go back to the days when the dignity of wealth was if it's traceable to good work and integrity. |

Thundafireseun:No be lie. But it's not only in Asaba. In fact,it's allover the entire Delta state now. To see any under 25 banny wey get sense, you may end up needing the signature of our state governor first, and you may still not find anyone. |

Thundafireseun:Maybe you should talk about a few and not generalize. There are uncountable very decent young ladies all over Delta state. There is simply a very small percentage of young ladies in the state, who stain the image of the larger percentage with their wrong acts. They are the ones arrested by the police and given very serious publicity. By the way, the issue is not limited to Delta state only. It is a national issue. No state, tribe or religion is spared. |

ElevationD:You people downplay all these things like we don't see them on a daily basis. The society is rotten. Majority of the youths are wayward... Only a little percentage think straight. I won't even talk about the upcoming and teenagers. Only the universe knows what will become of them |

Sonnobax15:Once again, please remember not to generalize the issue. You have not gone around the length and breath of Delta state to make such a wrong opinion. There are 25 local governments with uncountable towns, villages and settlements making up the entire state. Delta is one of the best states of the country, one of the most peaceful with very friendly, social and welcoming people, great people with great potentials, lovely to live in and enjoy yourself. |
