A disturbing incident has emerged in Delta State, where a 17-year-old girl reportedly staged her own kidnapping with the help of friends and extorted ₦500,000 from her mother.

According to the Delta State Police Command, the teenager orchestrated the fake abduction and demanded ransom from her unsuspecting mother, who is said to depend on farming to provide for her family. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

Police authorities disclosed that after receiving the money, the suspect allegedly spent the proceeds on clothing and other personal items, leaving her mother devastated both emotionally and financially.

In a statement issued by the command, officials condemned the act and stressed the importance of proper parental upbringing and monitoring of children’s activities.

“She connived with her friends, faked her own kidnap, and extorted a ransom of ₦500,000 from her innocent mother who does farming jobs in the village to feed,” the statement read.

The police used the incident to caution parents and guardians to pay closer attention to their children’s behaviour, peer groups, and lifestyle choices.

Authorities emphasised that early guidance, discipline, and value orientation remain critical in preventing young people from engaging in criminal or deceptive acts that could destroy their future.

“Train your children so they don’t end up becoming a problem to you and society,” the command warned.

Maybe you should talk about a few and not generalize. There are uncountable very decent young ladies all over Delta state.

There is simply a very small percentage of young ladies in the state, who stain the image of the larger percentage with their wrong acts. They are the ones arrested by the police and given very serious publicity.

By the way, the issue is not limited to Delta state only. It is a national issue. No state, tribe or religion is spared.

There are 25 local governments with uncountable towns, villages and settlements making up the entire state. Delta is one of the best states of the country, one of the most peaceful with very friendly, social and welcoming people, great people with great potentials, lovely to live in and enjoy yourself.
