"It happened one quiet evening as I was returning from class. Tired and hungry. One thing I really don’t like is responding to unknown guys on the road while I’m walking. It’s something I find very hard to do, especially when you're looking like only God knows. I see it as disrespectful. I don’t know about other ladies, but for me, I don’t like it.

And honestly, God, please don't let me unknowingly chase my future husband away because of "forming hard girl" on the road.

Well, if you approach me in a decent way, I will respond. But not with, fine girl, baby, or sweet damsel. I won’t answer to that.

Alright, back to the story.

I was almost at my street when I heard someone behind me say, Hi, fine girl. I didn’t respond because I already knew it was one of those usual street approaches. When I turned, I saw a tall, dark guy with braids (or maybe dreadlocks). I assumed he just wanted to do the normal thing guys do when they see a lady. He said, baby girl, what’s up?

I ignored him. When he noticed I wasn’t responding, he walked past me. Then I felt a strong nudge in my spirit saying, “Don’t let him go.”

So I called out and greeted him properly. Good afternoon, how are you doing?

He stopped and came back. He said he was fine and asked for my name. I told him. He asked where I was going, and I said I was heading home because I had just finished lectures.

That was how everything started.

I slowed down my steps because I kept hearing in my heart that this person needs Jesus. Speak to him. I needed more time because I was already close to my house, but I didn’t let that stop me.

He started by saying he liked me and wanted us to be friends. I told him, Do you know Jesus loves you more? Do you know you can be a friend of Jesus and enjoy every part of that relationship?

He smiled and said he knows about Jesus, but he likes me, that’s why he was talking to me.

Immediately I started talking about Jesus, he tried to change the topic by saying he loves me and already knows about Jesus. I asked him if he was a Christian. He said he attends a church. I asked again, Are you born again? He said he has given his life to Christ.

I smiled and asked him a few questions.

Do you smoke? He said yes. You wear earrings?
He said yes. You plait your hair and keep dreadlocks? He just smiled.

Then I said to him, This might be your opportunity right now. Just accept Him.

At that point, he became very calm, with a broken heart and spirit. Then he said I wouldn’t understand. I quoted some scriptures to him. I asked if he was ready to genuinely give his life to Christ. He said yes.

I asked him to say some words, he repeated the prayer after me. And I prayed with him.

My dear… that was it. A new soul was won. Heaven rejoices.

He asked me which church I attend. I told him, and he said he would love to attend my church. I said, wonderful.

He brought out his phone and collected my contact. I told him that next Sunday, I would take him to church.

During the week, I actually forgot that I invited someone to church. Although he had messaged me earlier, it was on Saturday night that he texted again to ask if I would be attending service on Sunday. I said yes, and he gave me his calling line so I could call him the next morning.

The next day, I called him and asked if he had a Bible. He said he didn’t. So I took my brother’s Bible and waited for him. On our way to church, I gave him the Bible.

He then told me he had never held a Bible before. I was shocked and asked, really? He said yes, that it was his first time. I smiled and told him I would get him a new one.

After the service, I took him to the church protocol unit where they collected his details and spoke with him. On our way back, he said he really enjoyed the pastor’s preaching. I was so happy. God be praised!

He even reminded me about the Tuesday and Thursday evening services and said he would attend. Imagine the person I invited to church becoming more serious than me! But I told him I might not always be available because of lectures. I also told him about vigils, programs, and Sunday services and promised to keep him informed.

My dear, this God is truly great.
