Let's talk about something that doesn't get nearly enough attention. When Nigerians think oil and gas, their minds go straight to Rivers, Delta, Bayelsa. And yes, the Niger Delta has powered this country for decades. But here's what the conversation keeps leaving out. The Southeast is sitting on something massive. Imo State alone holds an estimated 200 trillion cubic feet of natural gas reserves, making it the largest gas deposit in the entire country. Not Rivers. Not Delta. Imo State. Right in the heart of the East. And it's not just sitting there on paper. The ANOH Gas Plant in the Asa North–Ohaji area of Imo State is already being described as West Africa's largest gas processing facility. That's not a local achievement. That's a continental statement. Then there's the Anambra Basin, stretching across Abia, Anambra, Enugu and Ebonyi, a vast inland reserve that remains largely untapped. The potential sitting beneath that soil is almost difficult to put into numbers. The East built its reputation on industry, trade and resilience. But underneath the ground, nature added something else entirely. A resource so large it could reshape Nigeria's energy future if properly developed and if the right attention, investment and infrastructure follows. The question isn't whether the East has what it takes. The ground already answered that. The question is who is paying attention 👇🏾 Did you know the largest gas reserves in Nigeria were in the Southeast? |

The eastern part of Nigeria has a lot of untapped natural resources. But the greedy old politicians will sit on it, collect peanuts from the western world and kill its own people just to get to it. |

I am not ibo, but the poster is correct. But almost all regions including the middle belt and South West, Lagos and Ogun state has as well. The major problem is the investment required to scale, Gas requires massive investment in pipelines, with the insecurity issues coupled with Nigeria's mindset for free money, no investor will put his money on a project that will be quickly sabotaged at the slightest provocation or by greedy elements. |

ariesbull:Bro, Nigeria destroys everything it touches. If the Niger Delta have not benefited from its huge oil reserves, you think is the East that will benefit from Gas reserves? Talk about something else |

Some of you are duumb. What's the essence of this post? What benefit has natural resources in Nigeria been to those sitting on it? At the end of the day, even if all the gas is tapped, a few crooked individuals loot the funds. Just go to the oil producing communities in Bayelsa and see what it's like. Better pray the hyenas don't find oil or gas in your community. The only beneficiaries of natural resources like oil and gas are Fulani and Yoruba who have no drop of theirs but have formed an axis of exploitation to reap where they did not sow. |
