First off, I will turn Iran from being a victim to the aggressor before the eyes of the international community thereby giving away the sympathy it deserves to the US.

Secondly Iran attacking first will give the US the necessary leverage to ask for support from it allies. Though relationship is currently strain between the US and it allies, attacking the US will easily sway the US allies to join the war but if the US started the war first, it allies might drag foot thinking the war is unnecessary.

Thirdly attacking the US first is going to unite Americans back home to support the war but if the US start the war and could not bring it to a halt quickly it is going to cause uproar back home which is going to a problem for the government.
