Plateau Government Arrests Pregnant Woman For Trafficking Three Girls To Ghana For Prostitution

A heavily pregnant woman who runs a bar in the Rantiya area of Jos South local government area of Plateau State, has been arrested by the state government for allegedly trafficking three young girls to Ghana for prostitution.

The suspect, simply identified as Mrs. Yakubu, was paraded on Thursday, February 19, 2026, at the Plateau State Gender and Equal Opportunities Commission, SGEOC’s headquarters in Jos, alongside another woman and the rescued victims by Chairperson of the Commission, Olivia Dazyam.

While briefing journalsits, Dazyam said the girls were rescued in Ghana and repatriated to Nigeria.

Dazyam stated that the girls who gave their names as Humata Ilya, Sendy Emmanuel, and Dorathy Yakubu aged between 18 and 19, confessed that Mrs. Yakubu lured them to Ghana with the promise of lucrative jobs only to be forced into prostitution.

She stated that the victims, two from Adamawa and one from Plateau, were made to swear to an oath and had to undergo some rituals that they will not betray Mrs.Yakubu.

She noted that the Commission received information about the trafficking and worked with security agencies to repatriate the girls.

“At the state Gender and Equal Opportunities Commission, we received information about a woman that caused the movement of two girls from Plateau State to Ghana. God helped the two girls, and they were able to get back to Jos with the help of the security agencies,” Dazyam said.

She added that the suspects trafficked the girls to Ghana for prostitution after receiving ‘blood money’ from the victims’ activities.

“We want to let the people of Plateau State know that traffickers are living in our communities. Why would you want to send young girls to Ghana to go and do what,” Dazyam said.

“As a matter of fact, two women were involved in the trafficking. One woman has also caused the trafficking of two girls from Mangu to Ghana. One escaped, and by the grace of God, she’s back safely now.

“I do not know whether they have any excuse whether to say this is out of ignorance. There has been a lot of sensitisation out there. Why would you want to send young girls to Ghana to go and do what? As we speak, one of the suspects, her own daughter 18 or 19-year-old girl, is in Ghana. What is she doing in Ghana?”
the SGEOC Chairperson queried.

In a brief interview with newsmen, Mrs. Yakubu confessed to the crime but expressed regret over her actions, claiming she was only helping the girls secure employment like her daughter who is also based in Ghana, but however, refused to specify the nature of her daughter’s work in the West African country.

This is definitely not what that Beautiful State is known for.
I’ve always fantasized about marrying from Plateau State, investing there, settling there.
This Lady is NOT one of us.

Tell NAPTIP

And to all ' I am going abroad'
' I am going abroad!'

What are you going to be doing when you reach there?

Washing dead bodies?
Wearing pampas for grandpa and grandma?
Gum body business?
Sleeping inside cold streets of Canada?

May be Nigeria is even not so bad after all!

There are some folks who have sold their souls to the devil. Imagine being pregnant and still engaging in trafficking. Some even engage in prostitution with their girls, so it's not a matter of saying 'can they do that to their own' sometimes

COMRADES, Mrs Yakubu...why mentioning only her surname? Doesn't she have first name?
If I may ask, do Ghanaian Alhajis pay commercial cex workers more than their counterparts in Nigeria?

I don't understand why there would be a high number of Nigerian girls there. Are the earnings per round so high in Ghana? Do Ghanaian men pay so much for sex? Abi na Nigerian yahoo yahoo boys be the major patrons?

So literally all of Eastern Nigeria and some parts of Christian areas of Northern Nigeria. What about Adamawa, Gombe and Taraba girls? Yoruba girls no dey do runs for Ghana ni?

They cannot be in millions, stop lying.

It's better you said some few hundreds of them.

It is not Alhajis that mainly patronize prostitutes in Ghana because Ghana is a predominantly christian nation.

Majority of the patrons are our fellow christian guys because Muslims in Ghana a very few

Taraba girls are not known for travelling out for prostitution, not that they are saints.

Most prostitutes are from Benue state, then few from Plateau state (talking about northern Nigeria). More southern girls are into prostitution sha

In the case of Benue state, it seems their girls naturallylove sex not just because of money. They are the cheapest prostitutes in Nigeria & can Bleep for as low as 1k in some places.

Some of them are beautiful, so you will wonder why such a beautiful girl is shamelessly sleeping around with all manner of riffraffs & hooligans for peanuts.
I was once making research about prostitution & I questioned one of them, a beautiful girl about her price & she told me she collects 1.5k for short time with condom & 4k without condom.

I was shocked that a prostitute can agree to have raw sex with strangers for as low as 4k, not minding if the stranger has HIV or hepatitis or any other deadly incurable disease. More shockingly, the area where she & her cohorts prostitute is highly endemic for HIV & hepatitis.

I concluded that it's either she's already infected or she's playing Russian roulette with her life because of greed for money

Benue state is a poor state with poor men. But then, Igbo men are richer than Benue men, yet Igbo women dominate the sex workers trade.

Did you meet these girls or the girl in question in Benue? When please? Those prices are dirt cheap, but highly risky. It means Benue and to an extent southern Kaduna and Plateau girls would dominate the sex trade in Abuja.

Yes, I strongly believe the girl in question is infected. Benue is in the top three states of people living with HIV in Nigeria. Women harbour for a long time more STIs and can contact them easily than men.

The love of sex has to be cultural. Some cultures are so sexually liberal. But why Ghana? I even saw Ivory Coast. Dem sabi French so? huh

This seems to be quite common in Plateau state.
We had a month long program in Plateau in 2024 and within that period we had 2 people alleged to have moved to Ghana through an agent who promised them Jobs, enticing them by saying the exchange rate means Ghanaian jobs were going to be better paying than in Nigeria.

And this is not limited to just girls, young guys were also said to have been paying some tidy some for agents to help them relocate to Ghana. While there I even listened to a radio show addressing the issue and at that time Tudun Wada was claimed to be the epicentre

All Nigerian girls in short. I think the Yahoo Boys are the main patronize.

Ok

Why not highlight your findings to the government. You will be helping those in gaol, jail and humanity.

The government may not be aware.

Government is not taking care of the citizens. Hence the urge to leave the country to seek better future elsewhere.

I hate when people ask questions for which they already know the answer to...
What are they going to do there? PROSTITUTION of course!

These governments need to do more for their people.
Make it repulsive to do so by making alternatives more accessible
One for which you won't have to 'snatch your soul'
What ignorance are they refering? No matter the sensitization,
stark poverty will always bring desperation.

None of them ever comes back normal or a millionaire.
Those who do are the dangerous ones that've resorted to
trafficking others, that's the 'career' path.
