A Disgrace, There’s No Opposition In Nigeria’ – Odinkalu Slams Atiku, Peter Obi by SlavaUkraini(op): 2:42am On Feb 24
Former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, Chidi Odinkalu, has criticised opposition political parties and leaders over their handling of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, elections, describing them as ineffective and disorganised.

The former NHRC chairman specifically stated that, in his view, there is presently no credible opposition in Nigeria.

Speaking on Politics Today, a programme monitored on Channels Television, Monday, Odinkalu said the opposition failed to demonstrate leadership at a critical moment.

He specifically referenced the public holiday declared by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike on the eve of the election, arguing that opposition parties missed an opportunity to mobilise supporters in response.

According to him, a decisive opposition would have organised a rally the following day to challenge the move and energise its base. Instead, he alleged, opposition leaders remained inactive.

Odinkalu described the opposition as “an utter disgrace,” stating that the current political climate reflects a lack of seriousness among parties expected to provide checks on the ruling government.

He said:

“I think the opposition forces, you know, the ADC, whoever else; I don’t even know which PDP there is now, if there is any, because Nyesom Wike is APC faction of PDP, it seems to me.

But the so-called opposition forces, in my view, are an utter disgrace. And I say that with no apologies to anybody.

“Now take an example: Nyesom Wike wakes up on Thursday night after people have started retiring to declare a public holiday. If I were a member of a political party, and I were a leader of a political party, I would call a rally on Friday. That was a fantastic opportunity for opposition leadership to prove itself.

“If you had political troops on the ground, call a rally on that Friday to dare him and use that to mobilise. What did they do? They were indoors, sleeping.

It’s difficult to speak to the ineptitude of political opposition in Nigeria. They are not serious. And I think anybody who looks at the system has got to say that, at the moment, there is absolutely no opposition.

“What I do not understand, however, in the face of that, is why the ruling party still feels the need to manufacture the kinds of things it does, from violence to rewriting results to putting one where it should not be, turning hundreds into thousands. I do not understand why they feel the need to do that, because there is actually no opposition group.

Atiku has no interest of Nigeria at heart. What he wants is to be president of Nigeria to leech the remaining resources he rest behind for his unborn generation and or for his concubines

Atiku has failed this country at this critical time

I don't agree with him. 24 hours before an election, you are prohibited from campaigning or holding rallies so how were they supposed to have held it?

The only ways they messed up was in choices of candidates and ignoring the rural areas where most of the votes come from.

He is speaking from both sides of the mouth.

He is not different from the mediocrity of the people he is lambasting.

As one claiming to be a professor of law, he is supposed to know that campaign ceases 24 hrs to election and that last day is devoted to sorting out the logistics, final horse trading and political negotiations, perfecting the situation room and field coordination etc.

Only an unserious and mediocre politician will be at a rally ground or switching resources to organize a rally when it is 24 hours to an election in Nigeria.

The ADC by its very design is a structure of failure.

ADC failed in Anambra bye election.
Failed in Atiku's home state.
Failed in the Kaduna dwarf's state
Failed in Kano.

Even if they went to campaign in the forest, they would have lost.

As unintelligent as he sounds, he's one of their top advisers in the Obidient cult.

The way he talks, you will think he is not educated. His own title of Professor must be a nickname. He's mentally barren.

I don't agree with you, don't put the blame on political parties, put the blame on the people. This one people are complaining they are suffering, bla bla bla, I don't think people are suffering, because if they are suffering, they will ask what is the solution and what is the way forward.

Moreso, opposition parties don't have the funds for politics rallies as that, politics no easy ooooo. If you will get people to leave what they are doing and give you attention, like maximum attention, not all these soliciting for willing volunteers, and working with the willing volunteers. The language most Nigerians understand right now is money. If you give me money, I will go all out for you. Nigerians still see politics as a joke or childs play. So he shouldn't blame political parties, political parties are there to offer an helping hand, which ever hand you want to take depends on the voter, plus, there are evidences of vote manipulation. Numbers were doctored, he no see that one talk about, someone said, if you eat on the table, you observe table manner, God forgive me, most of these NGOs are working for the government and they are there for their own personal pocket. Exactly my point, he shouldn't be calling out the opposition party, but state the way forward

He should talk more on what is left for Nigerians to do. Most of these interviewers are actors for Tinubu, they will intentionally push a question to fit into a narrative and the news would centre only on that narrative that favours the ruling party. There is heavy control especially in the media space. Whatever narrative that is pushed will become the opinion of the common man and most times, these things are done to intentionally demoralize people who might show interest in the future

Don't they declare no movement in other parts of Nigeria wheb they are having elections?
The same tribalistic clown who doubt the authenticity of UI first class graduates just because it's in another region of the country.
No one should take this clown seriously on anything, he has shown his true colors.
People can see progress under this govt hence all the opposition talk is just noise right now.
The country still has long way to go but at least people can sense and see some progress and headway.
People are not blind or dumb, make all the noise you want, Tinubu's govt is still better than what we have had in a long time, even though it's not perfect.

Blame obidients for bringing division to ADC .
They became opposition in ADC, abusing Atiku that worked for the formation of ADC to a national status. ADC now have a big office space in Wuse 2 , thanks to Atiku that donated his building. These clowns started with " Obi and El Rufai, then moved to Obi and Tambuwal, then to obi and Kwankwanso, next one go be Obi and Sultan/Emir. And obi is encouraging them.
Besides how can you bring someone from Benue to contest for a Local Govt election in another man's land? Something that no SE states will tolerate
Re: A Disgrace, There’s No Opposition In Nigeria’ – Odinkalu Slams Atiku, Peter Obi by epainos:
The true test was the Abuja poll, and truly, there isn't any opposition. Every succesful opposition is always active, dedicated, selfless, patient, and determined. Perseverance is presence also.

Is it Atiku that left the PDP and went to Dubai after losing the election to Buhari in 2014 you can call a leader? Lol. Wike took over and spent massively (though, na stolen money too), and then Atiku returned with his dollars to buy the primary again defeating Wike. All the people who had promised Wike a win in the primary left him for Atiku's money. This brought out the beast in Wike. Lol. Atiku isn't selfless, he is extremely selfish.

Kwankwaso. Tinubu has finished that one. Lol. He has even lost Kano the way I am seeing it, and to crown it all...the US has destroyed his presidential ambition.

Peter Obi. Lol. Everyone knows that it over for Obi na. He won Lagos. Fine. You can see how LP lost the gubaernatorial. Lol. Yeah...truly, many want to vote for him, but Tinubu's rouges will not allow it. Oh! He won Abuja too... lol. Wike has shown him what to expect again. And yeah...he too rigged mssivelessly the election in the east. We all know. We saw the video too na...just as we saw that of APC in Lagos during gubernatorial...and those of PDP too. Guess what? Most of his financial supporters in the East have left him. The ones who coordinated the eastern youths for him in 2023 have left it. Seyi Tinubu has bought them over to the APC.

Yet, na corn Obi dey price in the street. grin No action. Omoh eh! I have written it many times, he should protect his political power by not exposing himself how weak he is. He needs to back out of the next presidential election and appoint a VP for Atiku so they both can lose. Then, Obi still having the ovation high can find a way to recover grounds he has lost. If he should contest and lose, he is finished. Soludo will become the next power in the east as he is positioned to take over. They just want to use the next election to nkpai Obi's political career. All the Tinubu city boys are reporting to Soludo. APGA wey dey work for APC. Lol. APGA is APC na..even Bianca Ojukwu, the foreign minister is a proof. Obi is already finished...but if he can be smart and not contest the next election, Soludo will not be able to take over, and there is still hope for Obi. But Obi no get patience na. Na today Obi wan become president by any means. Unless Obi restrain himself and build a solid foundation, he is a disaster in the pipeline. The oceanic wave is about to wash him away and drown him permanently.

In Nigeria, opposition requires heavy funding.

Tinubu had Lagos and some South Western states funding him

Lagos money in particular was the main reason Tinubu was successful as an opposition leader.

These people Prof is blaming cannot challenge Wike in FCT with empty pockets.

Truth be told , Tinubu has poached almost all politicians who could have given support and finance a strong opposition party.APC will likely face the weakest opposition parties in the history of Nigeria since the return of democracy.

Must it be Atiku or Obi?
Re: A Disgrace, There’s No Opposition In Nigeria’ – Odinkalu Slams Atiku, Peter Obi by asfrank(m):
E shock this one. This lawyer self, him no Sabi say campaign suppose stop 24 hours to election. Him no see how Agulu go from one market to the other bargaining with hustling women for groundnut, the man can't give what he doesn't have. People voted LP candidates in 2023 because of the candidates themselves not Obi?

The Obients on the other hand are a group of stubborn, angry people who believe they know more than anyone else. They were right there in their houses, everyone waiting for the other person to do the voting. In the end they had a very poor turnout. That MO boy, his own is worse, emergency politicians, how can he reasonably person explain the poor turnout in his polling unit, 9 abi 10 people only oh!!!
A reasonable politician would have held a meeting with those in his unit, mobilized them before the elections. But the obidients think differently, they want to capture the presidency first. The big question is how would Obi function as the president if he is surrounded by a Senate that has APC as majority, House of Reps, Governors, State houses and every other elected officer. Buhari'a first tenure is a perfect example of having a Senate that is in variance with the president policies. Nothing moves forward.
