I worked in Nigeria, and I am 100% sure of this. There are some doctors back in Africa who engage in unethical practices. They tell patients they have undergone an appendectomy and even take them into the operating theatre, but in reality, no actual surgery is performed.

These patients never had appendicitis, it's simply a way for the doctors to make quick money. However, when such patients later move to Canada, the United States, or Europe and undergo a genuine appendectomy, medical examinations reveal that they have surgical scars, even though no real surgery was done previously.

Patient: ‘I had Appendicectomy in Nigeria!’ Patient actually has an appendix scar! She knows the exact hospital and the exact doctor that performed the surgery under sedation! There was no pathology result given to her! Guy man! E no go better for you! Na Zo Talk Am!! You are putting patients at risk all in the name of hustle! How you dey even sleep for night sef?☹️☹️☹️

NB: Before you start! I know this clinic! I know the doctor! I have receipts o! The doctor that performed the ‘Appendectomy’ discharged the patient the same day on antibiotics and Ibuprofen! The man may wear stethoscope, but e nor get doctor brain.

"Back home" like say he don do research and realize say the thing dey prevalent. It could just be a dew instance of obviously unqualified doctors that the patient(s) in question encountered.

Because even though our system is waxko, no doctor with a legal and genuinely licensed will risk their license for this.

The right thing is for any hospital to hand over the removed appendiceal tissue to you after the surgery. And that's what is commonly done. Only quacks would claim to remove your appendix and provide no evidence of the removed specimen.

If you are real Nigerian this will not happen to you. We nigerians we confirm health issues like 3times before we believe it. Na like that one yeye doctor said i get hepB, I went to 3 other hospitals nd tested neg

I never knew anything of such exists in Nigeria. And if it does, it's because our system is so supportive of quackery. A lot of illiterate, many of the patients are ready to submit their body for quackery practices.

The most dubious ones are the ones that insist a pregnant woman must have cesarean section for child birth. Just to make money

To the topic,
He generalised which is an error. Appendicectomy is one of the easiest and most basic of surgeries. If what he said was true, how come a person who had excruciating pain as a result of the bloated appendix now gets relieved after the surgery?

I stopped listening to him, when he said CT scan was done and it shows it’s not appendicitis or something like that

I had just finished NYSC and could do a few procedures. I was called by one of this women running maternity homes to help do an emergency CS. I got there and briefly examined the woman. She was almost fully dilated and I felt she could deliver per vaginum.
The owner of the maternity home agreed with my decision but asked me to make a skin incision and suture to close so they can charge the innocent patient for CS.
I declined and she stopped calling me for job after that.
Good riddance to bad rubbish .
This happened as far back as 2018.
