Caring For The Elderly Is Our Moral Duty — Saraki by PeterObi2041(op): 4:33pm On Feb 24
...as Ile-Arugbo Feeds Thousands in Ramadan

Former Senate President, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has reaffirmed his commitment to supporting elderly and vulnerable women during the holy month of Ramadan, as thousands benefitted from this year’s Ile-Arugbo charity distribution in Ilorin.

Saraki said the annual outreach remains a moral and spiritual obligation rooted in compassion, gratitude, and the responsibility to care for the elderly, particularly during a sacred period that emphasises charity and humanity.

He noted that the initiative is intended to ensure that aged women, many of whom depend on communal support, are able to observe Ramadan with dignity and without anxiety about basic meals.

Food items were distributed to the women at the well-known Ile-Arugbo charity home located within Baba Saraki’s GRA residence, continuing a humanitarian tradition closely associated with the family and the political legacy of the late patriarch, Dr Abubakar Olusola Saraki.

Although Saraki was not physically present at the distribution, the exercise was carried out on his behalf by the Director of Ile-Arugbo and leader of the Baba Saraki Alasalatu group, Hajia Afusat Abubakar, who stood in and closely monitored the process to ensure the items reached the intended beneficiaries in an orderly and respectful manner.

Speaking during the exercise, Hajia Afusat reiterated that the Ile-Arugbo initiative remains dedicated to providing relief, inclusion, and care for elderly women, especially during Ramadan when support for the less privileged becomes even more significant.

The beneficiaries, who turned out in large numbers, expressed gratitude for the food support, describing the gesture as timely and reassuring. They offered prayers for Saraki, asking Allah to reward his generosity, strengthen him, and continue to guide him in service to the people.

The distribution once again reinforced Ile-Arugbo’s enduring reputation as a centre of compassion and community support for elderly women in Ilorin, particularly during the fasting season.

There was a year those women died at such a similar gathering. Don't Ilorin old women learn from the past?

Coming from a Nigerian politician who stole their retirement!
This self righteousness is what annoys me most about our politician.
Everyone and yourself too, know that we know you are terrible, yet out here claiming righteous!

I get the point you are making calling him the "best"!
However, if what we got from him then is what we call the "best",
then yardstick for measuring the performance of our politicians is terrible low.
And we wonder why they get away with doing the least.

Most politicians say the right thing. But like the Pharisees, they do the opposite.

see the politics they are still playing in 2026. If you build factory for their children when you were senate president they won't be lining up for 2 cups of rice today

Our politicians only see clearly when they are not in power or when they were out of power. He did nothing for the elderly people when he was the governor

It is you that is brain dead and thus bereft of knowledge. I guessed you switched off when Bukola Saraki had his father in the mud with a bloodied over political issues. He put the older Saraki thoroughly to shame!

He'll have to beg Wike before he'll be given any position to run in PDP.

I'm sure that Saraki won't win a counsellorship election anywhere in this country nor matter the amount of eye service he does.

He is a double faced guy, who was appointed to head a reconciliation committee, but was busy given Wike/Faction Intel........

That is why Wike holds PDP to ransom, he has eyes and ears in all corners, Cos everyone needs Rivers State money so badly.

Why don't we pass laws at the state level to provide the elderly with some retirement stipends, like it's done in developed countries? Surely, we have the money, considering the way our elected officials live lavishly.
