Richtaiwo:Tinubu said it many years ago that he does not believe in one Nigeria. That is why a Yoruba man must be the IGP, even if 100 officers will resign for it |

Uchesis:The choice of who heads security agencies is one of the special prerogatives of the president and he just exercise that privilege. You are free to go to court if you are aggrieved and stop typing rubbish on social media. |

Fujiyama:Promotion on merit in the police ends at deputy commissioner of police. Promotion to commissioner, AIG and DIG are strictly by federal character. As at three years ago, Tunji Disu was a senior officer to Frank Mba. However, availability of vacancy in the South east region pushed Mba to DIG within two years while most of his mates are still commissioners and the lucky ones among his seniors are AIG. Appointing an AIG as IGP can’t create any instability in the system. In fact, it allows more promotion of officers that have been stagnant as a result of lack of vacancy in their region. Egbetokun will go with all his DIG. New DIGs will be appointed from the rank of the current AIGs. New AIGs will also be appointed from the rank of commissioners who have been stagnant for years. It goes down like that. That’s why so many police officers were celebrating when the news was announced. |

There is absolutely nothing wrong with this policy. The whole process is “Darwinian”, if you are unlucky enough not to be selected for the top position, then no other opportunity is left. The next move is retirement. |

OMEGA009:Oh yes That was his luck It happened because of the pathological disdain and hatred you folks have for the Igbos It got to the point that there was no DIG or AIG from the whole SE that a DCP had to be promoted twice in two years to make up for the shortfall |

Kalulu44:I think Tinubu strategy is to appoint those he could easily fire if they do not perform. One of the reasons the country has failed to make progress is we keep appointing people based on geopolitical zone. To do this the president sometimes has to rely on the suggestion of political associates from other geopolitical zones. If this person then fails to perform, it becomes difficult to fire him in order not offend anyone. After all he representing his geopolitical zone and not necessarily to perform. Tinubu is our first foreign educated President and you can see that in his thinking. He thinks logically and as they say logic removes most of life’s errors. He relies on logic and ignores illogical arguments. |

seunmsg:^^^ Ok. As long as we all agree that nobody should complain when it isn't favouring his 'group'. BAT will finish his term and leave - and these practices will continue. What you are saying is that the promotion of Disu to IGP is to satisfy federal character? Obviously not. seunmsg:^^^ This is why some of us will always be highly critical of BAT. We have been saying for ages that strong institutions are the only way to build a nation. BAT clearly doesn't agree. BAT contnues to talk about his so called economic reforms - but he has done absolutely nothing about public sector reforms. This shows exactly what he stands for. There is no way anyone can say it makes sense to spend all this money on wages and training and whatnot on these senior NPF personnel and they are all dropped in one go . The system needs an overhaul and sadly, BAT cannot carry it out. He isn't the man to spur the change so desperately needed. Its sad but it is what it is. |
