Elon really did a number on twitter when he took it over. I was once banned there for a month for a post celebrating beating up an armed robber.

In today's twitter that would not have happened

the people tasked with moderation have been exited, controversy and rage bait has been incentivised

This means there will be no moderator coming to stop a pile on or smear campaign. It will continue until there is another fire.

People here hate the spambot, but what it does is put you in time out when you are engaging in a fight. By the time you can post, you have usually decided to move on to a better use of your time.
I think current Twitter is better than what it used to be when the left censored anything they didnt agree with

Posting that "Men cannot get pregnant" was enough to get you banned in the old Twitter

But she didn't really cause this in the sense that most of these guys/gals are simply toxic, bitter and angry and are looking for any reason to start a pile on.

Do you have the energy or motivation or lack of anything going on in your life to start going through 20 years of a person's post history? Are you so desperate to destroy a person that you will take anything the person has written in the past and twist it out of context?

If you are this kind of person you are constantly looking for an opportunity to start a vicious smear campaign in the guise of 'looking for justice'

This is what I was being warned aboutr when I put up a made up post about flint1. It is the kind of thing one bitter and toxic soul would bring up 10 years later if he/she has a grouse against the flint1

Really and truly social media has fked people up and governments need to start coming down hard on these tech moguls.

All of this is by design. Even here you can see the same thing with the topics pushed to FP and with the changes in the name of the topic to drive engagement.

Once any issue is seized by SM you have to step back and try to find the actual story, not the tweaked and embellished one.

Sha avoid putting any personal info of your out here before some sad angry and miserable soul decides tomorrow to start engaging your transportees for agenda.
Lol. Wetin be this? You dey sleep type abi wetin cos how can you absolve Simi of blame in this issue?

See Simi is not one random Nigerian with 500 followers. She's a big Nigerian artiste with a huge following and lots of influence. At that level, her words carry weight so she gats dey circumspect and not post recklessly.

When she made that initial tweet, and was challenged about false rape accusations against men, she should have acknowledged it, and said something like "false rape accusers should be made to face the full wrath of the law", c'est fini. But instead she deflected and doubled down, and that drew the ire of Nigerian men.

Nobody forced her to make sweeping statements about men. Nobody hacked her account. Nobody dug up a private diary. She said what she said publicly, lots of men felt insulted and reacted publicly. It's simply a case of action and consequence.

You dey talk about vicious smear campaign. No be she start am with that silly outburst against men based on the mirabel story which ultimately turned out to be false? You dey ask who get time to go through 20 years of post history? Bro, na Naija be this and the majority of youths are unemployed. In addition, celebrity dragging na clout and engagement magnet. Also, when she positions herself as morally superior and comes at men like that, people will check her history to see if her past aligns or to find dirt to throw at her. Na so social media, especially X be.

It's too convenient to label everyone who has criticized her as toxic and bitter. Some people are dragging her out of spite. Others are reacting because they feel insulted. These two truths can co-exist and we shouldn't reduce every pushback to a coordinated hate mob.

Because of this Simi issue wey go die down in a week, you want FG to come down hard on tech moguls? Lol. Wetin that one go achieve? Tomorrow, FG will use that same energy to regulate social media, the only active opposition platform and silence the citizens who criticize them. Think am well o.

There's absolutely no need to turn Simi into a helpless victim of an online mob. She insulted men. They challenged her. She doubled down, deflected and told them to STFU. People piled on, and are holding her accountable to face the consequences of her action.

She go dey alright last last, and hopefully she go use the experience get sense too.

Seyilaw did not have the tact to handle that type of discussion and raising his voice didn't help him cos he allowed them get under his skin. He should know he was going into hostile territory and should be armed with facts also be ready to concede some things an dwell on the strong points of the administration

Do not let them lead you to weak areas like insecurity, rather get ahead of them and take a small L in that area so they wont have to dwell on it

It was always going to be Idris' night. The insecurity and inflation alone would have been enough to decimate anyone he was up against, and he was going to milk it for the entire duration of the debate while looking into the camera. He deliberately avoided road infrastructure for a reason.

This is the real Simi.

3000 tweets between 2011 and 2024 is 13 years.

That's roughly 231 perverted tweets a year.

Simi is an entertainer, not a thought leader. the fact that i listen to snoop dogg does not mean i will follow his takes on controversial subjects.
it is however where we are today. no be last week davido dey incite mob to attack the lawyer who humiliated him?

When she made that initial tweet, and was challenged about false rape accusations against men, she should have acknowledged it, and said something like "false rape accusers should be made to face the full wrath of the law", c'est fini. But instead she deflected and doubled down, and that drew the ire of Nigerian men.
I encounter people have takes that take the piss and the simple thing to do is block or mute. i have been blocked and muted on the same twitter in the past. You will never encounter only people who agree with you and you will encounter people whose takes annoy you. some people can be reasoned with, some cannot, and some are deliberately obtuse. we have different arguments here about tinubu and APC. so if i double down and say Tinubu is the best president nigeria has ever had people should go all out on an online assault on my person?then again, we have seen some people maliciously rejoicing in larri-des misfortunes.

Nobody forced her to make sweeping statements about men. Nobody hacked her account. Nobody dug up a private diary. She said what she said publicly, lots of men felt insulted and reacted publicly. It's simply a case of action and consequence.
What they are trying to do is bully a person who does not share their views into silence. create an environment where their own view is law and the only view that can be voiced. That is how you create an echo chamber. Today it is Simi, tomorrow it could be someone else with a much tamer but still unacceptable view to the banger boy mob.

You dey talk about vicious smear campaign. No be she start am with that silly outburst against men based on the mirabel story which ultimately turned out to be false? any motivated clown can pick anything from peoples post because of agenda. some jokers on this platform have tried to insinuate that i am gay because i have said i dont support persecution of gays. you saw a clown try to claim i am a religious bigot. imho what has happened is SM is a medium where a lot of people who have no power in the real world have some sort of power and will look for people to bully especially if those people do not conform to their narrow world view.

It's too convenient to label everyone who has criticized her as toxic and bitter. Some people are dragging her out of spite. Others are reacting because they feel insulted. These two truths can co-exist and we shouldn't reduce every pushback to a coordinated hate mob.
the most visible people attacking her are those digging out tweets from 20 years ago. those who are making up stories of her molesting toddlers, those who are trying to destroy her marriage to AG, those who are trying to get her visa revoked. on top of what? a hot take? disagreement? why do you think a large number of us on this platform are extremely private? because we know that there are enough mental cases out there who , if given the opportunity will try to go into the real world to destroy the reputation or life of people whose personal views they dislike. basically the exact same thing Adeifa did to David.

i have had a set of clowns who were cloning my moniker and going round posting different hot takes. these are people who started stalking me because i have views different from theirs.

Social media is designed like this. you can even see right here on nairaland where topics will be renamed to push engagement and draw outrage. There was a post on FP last week where regina daniels said she bought her mum two brand new cars. i chimed in, nothing the cars we definitely not brand new. later i realised that in the original topic, regina had said she bought her mum two cars. the topic was DELIBERATELY changed to two BRAND NEW CARS because that make an otherwise basic topic into heavy engagement where e would all knock regina daniels for being fake.

the model of tiktok in china is completely different from the model of tiktok in the rest of the world. you may not realize how all,of this is rewiring our brains. my attention span is broken. i can no longer watch a video to the end. i have to push myself to do it. we have influencer with no actual knowledge pulling facts out of the air, and people swallow them. we laugh at macaroni, nut secondary school children also watch his videos and get the wrong ideas. did you see the video the other day where peller and another skit maker were smashing their car windscreens? so if some kids now start windscreen smash challenge because of this what next? the mirabel and other clowns are also another symptom - because social media has been designed for rage bait engagement. after that stunt mirabel should be banned from any platform for a year. same for peller. i said earlier i was banned for a month from twitter - this was years ago for a psot where i said an armed robber caught in the act should be beaten up. if it was that pre elon twitter, most of the people attacking simi would likely have ben banned and it wold not have gotten to this level

There's absolutely no need to turn Simi into a helpless victim of an online mob. She insulted men. They challenged her. She doubled down, deflected and told them to STFU. People piled on, and are holding her accountable to face the consequences of her action.
its easy to knock simi because false rape accusations are a sensitive issue. but that is not what this is really about. it is about shutting up people who do not share the opinions of the banger boy mob. today simi , tomorrow someone who says women are as competent as men in the work place.

social media is not - and that is why we are having this drama day in day out.

there are a lot of articles out there about how the likes of mark zuckerberg and the ultra rich ban their children from using devices because they are fully aware of the witches brew they are serving up to end users

His paymaster did say during the campaigns statistics do not matter so...
Fact and stats are not necessarily the same, That Otti was in APC before joining LP is a fact not a stat, And if he couldn't stand on that Business and allowed himself to be bodied easily on that, shows he wasn't ready. And when the mic was away from him, he could have pulled out his phone Googled and showed them as evidence of fake stats that Idris was giving just like his paymaster Obi

Its not about dislike, Dislike is an emotion and when you bring emotions to a debate its easy to deal with you, Smart debaters especially on politic will already know the weak points of their argument, try to address it quick and steer the conversation to a strong point, Trying to defend everything as good will weaken your overall argument just like trying to paint everything as bad

If someone says I see nothing good in anything Disstroy does , its emotional and easy to defeat, same thing if I say I see nothing bad in anything disstroy do. Smart debaters avoid these sweeping statements and like it when their opponents do it. That is actually the thing that Simi is paying for right now, sweeping generalizations

DissTroy:

Insecurity is a weak point for this admin and any defender of the admin will not let the opponent dwell on it, Inflation/economy is actually a goo point which can be argued expertly. The removal of fuel and Naira subsidy, the growing confidence in the economy, the regular salary payments, the infrastructure development are serious points you can bring up. While you will leave Idris just shouting Insecurity whch you have already conceded 30mins earlier

This is what you wont see Reno, Ajuri or Rotus doing. Those are the people I have watched them debate

As much as I am a Republican and defend most of their policies, I will be the first to concede that I do not support their position on abortion nor guns without background checks. I can argue and see the point of the Republicans n abortion and guns but its not a hill I will be willing to die on if we come to an argument. You saying you support everything makes you look like a sycophant

Also not listening is a very poor debating tactic, Cos you miss the opportunity to puncture easy holes in your opponents argument and reduce his credibility. I can join an argument without preparing and win simply by listening to my opponents and pointing out his logical fallacies

Once you put to question your opponents credibility, Half the work is done even when he makes legit argument you can point to his credibility deficit.

That is a tactic criminal defence lawyers use a lot

Social Media just gave many loud people a platform who are not prepared for public debates

Idris: Tinubu said if he doesn't provide power in 4 years, vote him out

Seyi: Okay, what would you have done differently?

Idris: Firstly, privatization should be revoked and we should study Egypt and SA to see how they got stable electricity

Instead of Seyi to listen, and say "Idris, don't you think revoking Privitazation would take a lot of resources? And the Minister of Power has already visited Egypt. It's possible there are plans to integrate their system into ours"

quick and dirty answer

a coastal road is one piece of infrastructure and can be repaid for via tolling. it is a one off project

our power industry issues are multifaceted and go back decades. we have legacy debt, insolvent companies, a culture of internal corruption and lack of accountability, a culture of over-billing, customers like the military who refuse to pay their debts . we also have nigerians who are not ready to pay bills commensurate with reality.

just as power companies give over estimated bills to end users , they have done same even to Aso Rock. so we dont even know what their actual debt is.

but in the end seyi law is a comedian [ am i right?] and likely the low brow kind. it is in obodo oyibo you have comedians who are deeply intelligent and research their jokes . we dont have time for that here

Exactly you got it. If Seyi was smart enough to allow Idris talk, Idris would talk himself into trouble, without trying too hard you already found a loophole, Seyi should simply ask what exactly about Egypt should we do

Privatization ba? Yes we are doing that. And point out why we cannot exactly do 1 for 1 what Egypt and SA are doing. Then bring some numbers like the GDP per capita of Egypt and South Africa to support your claims

Also the investment of FG, Well I dont think Egypt or SA is pending a chunk of their income fighting insecurity and terrorism like we are doing in Naija, So be careful when making that type of comparison cos the combined population of Egypt plus SA no reach Nigeria

I think it had more to do with his character, than his intelligence

Like....Relax and listen.

He made a phooool of himself more than even the APC he wanted to defend

Many thing one can learn about life from football. If you dont have an attacking weapon, Sit deep keep it tight and wait for your opponent to do the attacking. If you are vigilant you will see several loopholes you can exploit to counterattack

Once you jab Idris once or twice using his arguments against hi, then he will slow down

the guy was already in over his head. issues like subsidy and electricity are hard to explain to people who have been getting these subsidized all their life and do not understand the money has to come from somewhere

the average nigerian thinks you can wave a magic wand and these issues will be solved - just like that

they actually can be solved just like that - if you have unlimited money . but if you dont and you have several other pressing needs then you will have to schedule your plans

Him even defending Tinubu on security just spoilt all his chances.

Just accept it. Be sympathetic to it. Condemn it and put a voice for him to do more.

Instead, you are telling us that people have always been kidnapped.

Pheeeeewww. He goofed a lot

Neither Seyi Tinubu, Remi Tinubu, Bola or even Folashade will want the conversation to stay long on insecurity matters.

Take a quick L on it admit it an area govt is still working on. Spray some words here on how they are engaging local communities, International communities and keep quiet so that you can move the argument away from it

You can even be dancing and dribbling around on issues of road, electricity, inflation economy, but not on life/death matter. Denying that people are being murdered is a bad debate tactic IMO

even if i did not state it explicitly, you should realize i am referring to social media tech moguls. ironically the ezra who you chose to refer to is a tech mogul whose niche is heavily regulated by the government.

social media is not - and that is why we are having this drama day in day out.

there are a lot of articles out there about how the likes of mark zuckerberg and the ultra rich ban their children from using devices because they are fully aware of the witches brew they are serving up to end users
All I'm saying is we cannot be playing this card now and did not play it when Ezra was on the hot seat.

What was Ezra's crime? He was going to ask for his money from a friend/lover. Said person proactively put him on Twitter blast and people dug into his tweets from the same time line Simi's own was dug. He was found guilty both in the court of public opinion and also his employment place.

Nobody was accused of being jobless then.

If a male musician tweeted that about a 4y.o girl 13-14 years ago nobody will be saying this all of you are saying here.

And that is the double standards that we want to call out. It is that alibi that gave her the hubris to type what she typed initially, a grave miscalculation on her part

What's good for the Jews should be good for Uganda.

Is that really what happend? Cos me I no dey follow all these stories. I just come in the middle and start peicing together stories to understand the genesis.

She was really stewpid for saying STFU to that question. It means she supports a man getting punished for ra..pe..but a woman going free for almost destroying a mano life qith false accusato.

Now this is very annoying.

She is indeed getting what she deserves
Nna ehn, that was the crux of the whole matter. The past post digging was just icing on the cake
