"A few years ago, matte black and gray cars surged in popularity. There was rapid growth, but then they suddenly seemed to disappear. What is the problem with this paint?

From what I know, matte paint doesn't last and is difficult to maintain. Although the color looks very mature, it scratches and fades easily."

Because matte paint has a unique, porous, and textured finish designed to absorb light rather than reflect it, traditional buffing or polishing to remove scratches will ruin the finish by creating a permanent shiny spot.


Key Challenges and Considerations:
Permanent Damage: Scratches, swirl marks, or deep etching from bird droppings/tree sap cannot be buffed out. If the matte finish is polished, it turns glossy.

Specialized Maintenance: Matte cars cannot use automatic car washes, waxes, or harsh detergents, as these can add unwanted gloss or damage the finish. Hand washing with specific matte-safe products is required.

High Repair Costs: Because panel-matching is difficult, fixing minor damages often requires repainting an entire panel, which is significantly more expensive than repairing glossy paint.

Porosity: Matte clear coats are more porous than glossy ones, making them more susceptible to staining and absorption of contaminants.

Uniformity Issues: Maintaining an even, non-splotchy look across the entire car can be difficult, as the finish can appear uneven if not cleaned properly.
