Re: I've Been Having Insomnia For Over A Year by PAQ(m): 11:11am On Feb 27
I have had insomnia since i was a teenager. In my younger days up to late 30s i could stay up 2 whole days sometimes with heavy drinking on weekends, there are days i will play video games after dinner until 6am then take a bath, get dressed and off to work. I have learnt to live with it and accept it as a part of my life, it has never affected my personal or work life. Doctors said i should monitor my BP because not having enough sleep can raise BP, but to God be the Glory i dont have high BP. I work out alot and try to be as physical as possible, that has contributed to my overall wellbeing, plus maybe good genes. I am in my mid 40s now, i still get sleepless nights but not nearly as much as before. Age is a MF!

You are not alone, dont let it bring u down, work out, do stuff to drain your excess energy, if nothing works then take it as a part of your life. Nothing worked for me, i learnt to live with it as a super power.

Babysho, the elevated heart rate when you wake at 2-3am is worth paying attention to. That timing is significant — cortisol (your body's stress hormone) naturally peaks around 3-4am, and if your stress levels are already high, it can cause premature waking and make it impossible to go back to sleep.

A few things that may actually help that you might not have tried yet:

1. Magnesium glycinate — not regular magnesium oxide, specifically the glycinate form. 300mg about an hour before bed. It's one of the most underrated sleep supplements and is very safe. Many people notice a difference within a week.

2. Fixed wake time — no exceptions — Pick a time (say 6am) and wake at that exact time every day, even weekends, even if you slept badly. This is the most powerful thing you can do to reset your circadian rhythm. It builds sleep pressure that forces your brain to sleep properly.

3. Check your caffeine timing — Caffeine has a 6-hour half-life. A coffee or malt at 2pm still has about 50% of its caffeine in your system at 8pm. Even if you don't feel wired, it disrupts deep sleep stages.

4. Stop eating 3 hours before bed — Late meals spike insulin and keep your body in an active metabolic state when it should be winding down.

5. Get tested for sleep apnea — Waking suddenly with high heart rate at 2-3am and being unable to return to sleep is a classic presentation of sleep apnea or upper airway resistance syndrome. Has a doctor specifically suggested a sleep study? If not, push for one.

The sleep medications alone won't fix it if the root cause is cortisol dysregulation, nutrient deficiency, or a breathing issue during sleep. Hope you find relief soon.
Very technical insight.
In my view the symptoms express by the Op is a general one, quite common among Nigerians, well atleast me. Bros I no de sleep ie the conventional time. I practically have to use my phone to enable me sleep, I mean Eg watch YouTube till I pass out, and guess what, I will be up within an hour. Infact when I passed out my Samsung fold phone fell of my hand a inner screen got damaged as it fell flat in the floor, I woke you to get the phone to use to try and sleep again but found it face flat on the floor.
I think it is stress, too much thinking caused by the current economic situation, some poeplle cannot handle the pressure as effectively as others. And yes I also have palpitations.

My brother, you are not alone. Mine used to be that chronic. But to the glory of God, I have been able to overcome that.

Forget about tea, medicine, drugs and the likes. Relax your mind and forget the challenges of this passing world. If you are a catholic, when it is bed time, get your rosary and recite, without having a particular decade on your mind. Just continue until sleep takes over.

If you are not a catholic, you can use ejaculatory prayers every night. Something like;
'Jesus I Love',
'Jesus I trust in you',
'thank you Jesus', '
have mercy on me, O Lord'
Recite any of the above or something similar for an indefinite times, until sleep takes over.

If you are a Muslim, use any short dua as ejaculation or recite your rosary continuously until sleep takes over.

Also deep meditation can help. What you need is to get rid of all the thoughts that are affecting you and keep you restless.

God did it for me, He will do it for you. Amen
Ejaculatory prayers ke? huh

I've been having sleepless nights for over a year now. Back and forth with doctors and sleeping meds.

I'd sleep around 10 or 11pm and be up 2am or 3am, wide awake like I wasn't just sleeping, unable to sleep back. I noticed recently that my heart rate would be high when I wake.

I'm this close to quitting my job because of insomia.

I've tried hundreds of remedies, chamomile tea, all sorts of sleep inducing fruits, sleeping medications, yoga, warm bath, nothing works.

Help.
firstly: do away with alcohol, benzodiazepam and its derivatives, do away with pregabalin if you're using any of these to catch cruise, and cut your consumption of fried foods like yamarita and fried plantain. Secondly: limit your water intake and consume more of semi ripe bananas to balance your fluids. Thirdly: ask for magnesium glycinate or the ones that come in the prohealth tube. Please do not take the trisilicate or the ones that come in suspension (antacid), those are used for a different purpose altogether. Take one a day. For the tube one, dissolve one in a glass of clean water and drink.

If you have worry problems, you won't be able to sleep. If you have unresolved issue in your mind at home or place of work, sleep will be difficult. I'm speaking from experience.

In the absence of these, if there is no sleep, try the following:

1. Engage in10 Deep breathing. Gradually inhale with your nose counting to 4, hold until you become uncomfortable counting to 16 and exhale with your mouth gradually counting to 8. You can also exhale, hold, exhale, hold and finally exhale all the air in your lungs.

2. Rigorous exercise before night, especially before daybreak between 5 am and 6 am. You can't have problem sleeping if you work your body. A tired body must sleep

3. Another powerful sleeping tablet for me is having intimacy at night with my lovely sexy wife.

4. Avoid heavy meals at night or food that gives you internal heat. Pay attention to your body.

5. Avoid extreme cold or extreme heat in your room.

6. Avoid mosquitoes making noise to your ears when sleeping.

7. Make sure light is off and there is no noise when you want to sleep.

8. Sleep early at the same time around 9:00 p.m. or latest 10:00 p.m.

Hope this helps. Have a nice time.

My solution to you is this.

Wen you wake up by 3am, carry bible and started prayer. The sleep will come naturally till 6am

Funny right? Give it a trial

Hi sho.

I can relate with your issue cos i had it too some years back.

What exactly caused or started it?

Though there are some remedies u can try like this chinese tea i bought some months ago or u can buy horlicks tea; prepare warm with small milk and take around 8pm ... drink enough water; ease yourself and hit the bed ... I can guarantee u, you'll sleep for over 6 hours and wake up feeling relaxed.

So, if u wish to, u can discuss how it started ... Awaiting your response
I'm having same issue, mine is even worse.
I don't sleep at all in the night

If magnesium Glycinate is too expensive for you, try Epsom salt (pour it in your bath water in the night and bath with it every night. It can restore your magnesium deficiency.

Sleep in complete darkness. No light at all.

Also exercise (not the vigorous one) but one that will make you sweat after which you now do the salt bath.

I suffer from this too occasionally
Insomnia can be caused by too much sugar in the blood or maybe u drink a lot of coffee or caffeine substances.

So two things I use

I do some exercise before bedtime it could be a 1hr walk or something cardio to burn off excess sugar in the blood

Or u go to bed without food

If u have a woman take a shower and then have sex

Hi,
Do you take alcohol, are you an occasional or frequent drinker?
Do you always sleep with an open window?
To me all these matters.
My advice is to wean urself of all medications for at least a month and try some breathing exercises before sleep.
Most times xxual satisfaction enhances sleep experience.

I am experiencing the same thing.

I spoke with a psychologist and he said it has to do with stress and worry. Basically anxiety!

He asked me to consciously try to relax. Try to enjoy my hobbies and free my mind of worrying thoughts.

You should try these.

try and get tired everyday, most especially playing ball and make sure you exhaust yourself, this is my own personal remedy, mix soft drinks with gin , preferably Fanta and gin , take a little at night, then try to read books or watch movie laying down, this works like magic

Insomnia is one of the symptoms of depression and anxiety.
Just take life easy and take things the way you see it.
I suffered from insomnia so many years ago when I lost my job.
I struggled with insomnia for months, then I realized that there are some certain things I cannot change in life. I will rather Learn how to manage the situation than allow the situation to kill me.
Always do things that will make you happy, like spending time with your children and family. Go to places where your memory will be refreshed.
I wish you a quick healing
