I had the same issue. It started with early waking. i would sleep normally but be up by like 3-4 am wide awake. Eventually, it graduated to not beeing able to sleep on time. i won't be able to sleep until 2-3am and i would be up by 5-6 am wide awake. Sometimes if i manage to sleep early by 10-11, i will be up by 2 with my heart racing. I had palpitations in my chest, feeling of fear and anxiety and i was hypersensitive to noise. I went to the doctors (four different ones at different times) and they prescribed sleeping pills for me with therapy . I have met numerous clinical psychologists and the issue still persisted. My Full blood count was okay, my thyroid was okay too.

Eventually, i started doing some self research (I was also praying hard at this point). I discovered that deficiency in some minerals in the body can cause insomnia. So i went and did test for the following: Magnesium, vitamin d3 (cholecalciferol), ferritin (iron), vitamin b12. These are some of the core culprits when it comes to insomnia. My results came out and i was deficient in vitamin d. I bought the supplement (1000 iu) and took it for a month with no improvement. Turns out that the current recommendation to take 600ius of vitamin d per day is now outdated and humans need close to 10k ius daily. I eventually bought the 5k iu one, took it for a month and noticed i started sleeping better. I went for a test and the vitmain d had jumped from 21 to 38. i eventually stopped taking it. After a month, the whole symptoms came back. I went for test aagin and the vitamin d was deficient again. Apparently, vitamin d has a very short half life of about 15 days. what this means is that if you stop supplementation and you don't get enough, consistent sunlight, it will reduce by half every 11-15 days. So i started supplementation again. This time, i took it with co factors - Magnesium, omega 3, and k2. I was fine again.

Eventually after a while, i couldnt sleep again. I started having pins and needles sensations in my legs. I had severe palpitations. My legs would be hot or cold or numb sometimes. If i eat high carbs or starchy foods by anything past 6pm, it would worsen even though my fasting blood sugar was okay. I went for test and discovered that i was deficient in vitamin b12 this time. I bought methylcobalamin 1500mcg to supplement. I took it with pregabalin to help with the leg sensations, i also bought a multivitamin that had the B complex vitamins in it. If you're short in b12, there's a high probability you are short in other b vitamins. The full b vitamin test costs over a million naira but b12 alone costs less than 30k. After about 2-3 months of supplementation, my levels jumped back to normal and i began to sleep fine again.

People kept telling me i was overthinking and that led to my insomnia. I have entered serious trouble in the past and still slept like a baby to face the trouble the next day. I know people who are in serious trouble that can lead to their arrest but they're sleeping fine. My advice is for you to go and run a test first - test magnesium, potassium, vitamin d3, ferritin, vitamin b12, calcium, full blood count, thyroid check. These are the core culprits. When you do, you can reply to this comment and I will be able to guide you. Don't forget to pray too.

I've been having sleepless nights for over a year now. Back and forth with doctors and sleeping meds.

I'd sleep around 10 or 11pm and be up 2am or 3am, wide awake like I wasn't just sleeping, unable to sleep back. I noticed recently that my heart rate would be high when I wake.

I'm this close to quitting my job because of insomia.

I've tried hundreds of remedies, chamomile tea, all sorts of sleep inducing fruits, sleeping medications, yoga, warm bath, nothing works.

Help.
The racing heart rate speaks to symptoms of Sleep apnea,

Do you snore or have difficulty breathing while sleeping?

Also check your kidneys.

I also have the same problem and currently I'm starting to hear insistant ringing in my ear I think it might be an early warning sign for HBP, it also does help that any time I wake up my heart rate spikes like I just concluded a marathon. Please doctors in the platform help!!!
Why do you people refuse going to see an actual doctor?
Re: I've Been Having Insomnia For Over A Year by extroveee(m): 12:41pm On Feb 27
Search for 532Hz frequency download it or listen to it while you sit quietly and comfortably close your eyes and breath in slowly for 4 seconds hold it for seconds and breath out for 8 seconds repeat for 5minutes allow your thoughts to wonder don't try to control it, but make sure you don't open your eyes, just imagine a cool breeze touching you remain in that position until you begin to feel sleepy then you can lie down and sleep allow the 532hz music to keep playing while you sleep. Remember don't operate your phone 15minutes before bed time. And even wake up at night to urinate don't touch your phone, its better you buy a touchlight to use than phone touchlight.

But make sure you're eating balanced diet, and are not lacking some essential minerals in your body.
Try it and see wonders.

Check your diets and see a doctor

This is usually triggered by a scary experience you've had in the past that has created some form of fear within you. Your mind holds onto those stressful or frightening experiences, and if it hasn’t fully processed or let go of them, it can trigger restless nights. Even if you’re physically tired, the brain keeps replaying fears, worries, or hyper-alert thoughts, making it hard to fall asleep or stay asleep.

Find this message on YouTube and listen to it, titled "the secret of a peaceful life" by Pst Paul Rika. It will help you.

Has it been like this for say 10 years plus or it just started recently?

Have u checked your blood pressure and blood sugar? If not, pls check it first.

Its not natural not to be able to fall asleep at night.

And lastly, tell me chief, you've been drinking energy drinks, abi?

if yes, that's where ur issue is cos energy drinks has a high amount of caffeine

Pack all your property outside. All and do general cleaning. Wash your badsheet and curtain. Mopping everywhere. Spray some fragrances.

Then do let night weakout. Walk 10km. If your neighborhood is safe. Or buy a bicycle and do 30km.

Working out is so important. Also avoid taking coffee any time beyond 10-11 am.Have a regular time for night sleep, stop using smartphone atleast 1 hour before bed time.Always sleep in a cool dark room, you may need to use fan or AC if the weather is hot.
PAQ:
I have had insomnia since i was a teenager. In my younger days up to late 30s i could stay up 2 whole days sometimes with heavy drinking on weekends, there are days i will play video games after dinner until 6am then take a bath, get dressed and off to work. I have learnt to live with it and accept it as a part of my life, it has never affected my personal or work life. Doctors said i should monitor my BP because not having enough sleep can raise BP, but to God be the Glory i dont have high BP. I work out alot and try to be as physical as possible, that has contributed to my overall wellbeing, plus maybe good genes. I am in my mid 40s now, i still get sleepless nights but not nearly as much as before. Age is a MF!

You are not alone, dont let it bring u down, work out, do stuff to drain your excess energy, if nothing works then take it as a part of your life. Nothing worked for me, i learnt to live with it as a super power.

Was the pregabalin prescribed for you by a competent clinician? The reason I ask is bcoz pregabalin is known to be a controlled drug. What this means can be discussed separately.

Secondly, you appear to be over-medicating yourself, which can be unhelpful.
Re: I've Been Having Insomnia For Over A Year by Susbae: 2:23pm On Feb 27
You can try this remedy. Few minutes to bedtime, you massage the soles of your feet with olive oil. 5 minutes massage for each foot. You can ask someone to do the massage for you.
Babysho you can also give this a try. It is therapeutic and works.

Yes, it recommended to me by a clinician. The b12 deficiency temporarily affected my nerves. Pregabalin helps to quiet those effects and it was prescribed short term.

On the issue of over medication, It's not something I could help. Vitamin d has to be taken with cofactors and isn't effective alone. I have since stopped taking any vitamin d supplements since january since i am okay now. same with k2. I rely on walking in the sun for 30 minutes mondays to fridays. I am currently on b12, multivitamin, pregabalin, omega 3, magnesium. I have run kidney and liver tests and they are perfectly fine. I also make sure i hydrate properly with 3-4 bottles of water daily. Once the issue of b12 has been fully addressed, i will switch to food based sources for maintenance. Thanks for your concern.

There's only one thing that is disturbing you, which is too much of thinking, i once wanted to find myself in that position, but God was able to quickly redeemed me..

Again, I make sure I don't sleep I the afternoon, so that I will be able to have smooth sleep at night.

But overall, you are heavily thinking, you need to reduce every of your burden, and let your heart rest..

God will see you through 🙏

Reduce your screen time especially at night. Do not eat heavy foods. If you can, try sleeping in the morning especially during weekends.

I have been like this forever. Hardly ever sleep and I like it. I can stay awake, drink drink drink till 11 or 12 and still be the first to wake up. It got worse when I got involved in some incident that caused sever nightmares and trauma for me.
people close to me know that they can call me at midnight and have a clear conversation. My wife is usually alone on the bed at night because of this, I bet she can count how many times we slept same time.

I have always found sleep to be the most boring thing on earth. I mean, we can do loads of that when we die... right?
