Mine started mildly in 2018 and became chronic since 2020 till date. There's no drug or medication I have not received, yet no solution. I would be happy to know something else that's the solution.

I've been having sleepless nights for over a year now. Back and forth with doctors and sleeping meds.

I'd sleep around 10 or 11pm and be up 2am or 3am, wide awake like I wasn't just sleeping, unable to sleep back. I noticed recently that my heart rate would be high when I wake.

I'm this close to quitting my job because of insomia.

I've tried hundreds of remedies, chamomile tea, all sorts of sleep inducing fruits, sleeping medications, yoga, warm bath, nothing works.

Help.
Take Armytryptilne at night 25 mg for two weeks

Take it by 6pm

You may feel dizzy

If you sleep too much cut it to 12mg

It could be some chemical imbalance that is causing it. I suspect anxiety in your narration

You will be fine .

Go get a high blood pressure readings monitor and watch your blood pressure rate and thank me later.
What you need is to take care of your high blood pressure first then follow the rest up by seeing a good specialist to help with that.. speaking from experience.

Armytryptilne is prescribed to control chemical imbalance which at times cause insomnia.

.By the time you loose sleep the anxiety becomes more and worsens the insomnia.

The drug is not meant for sleeping but it will control the chemical imbalance and makes you sleep better. It can be stopped at any time.

I suspect chemical imbalance (cortisol) in your narration

To be sincere, all you need is to accept Jesus genuinely into your life and that will be all, I know a guy that doesn't sleep at all in the night, he tries to sleep sometime in the afternoon, the day he gave his life to Christ, his mum came to almost break the door of his room the next morning cos she knows he doesn't sleep at night and by 10AM the next day he is still sleeping. ....for so he giveth his beloved sleep. Psalm 127:2KJV

It's very common for men at certain age, mine has been over 10yrs now. But the funny part of it is that even 4hrs sleep now makes me feel like I slept for 8hrs. I can take quick naps in the afternoon if I have chance.
Re: I've Been Having Insomnia For Over A Year by AutoTechDoyz(m): 5:28pm On Feb 27
I'm sure it's a result of sendentary lifestyle. Walk, preferably brisk-walk, 30KM to 50KM from 4pm on the days of your choosing and let's see how it goes. I'd advise not to take painkillers afterwards; let the pain sink in and ebb away naturally, except you have got low threshold for pain

Its ok chief ... I understand how everybody's schedule is these days considering how "awesome" things are.

Wow! Since your 20s.

Well, i feel it might have been triggered as an after math of maybe your ulcer drugs ... not i said "might" and not certain.

I can't say if the tea is better than the chamomile tea o but how our body works differs.

I'll put a pix of the pack of the chinese tea as an attachment (lets hope NL mods won't delete it).

I'll say, lets start with Horlicks tea ... Prepare with a warm (slightly warm) water + milk ... drink around 8pm. Try that for some days and lets see.

If that doesn't work then u may try the chinese tea (got it from justrite from my area 2k or so ... its been a while)

And i'll advise u check your BP and blood sugar to be sure all is ok in that department.

Hope u don't take these energy drinks sha? If not, pls stop am o and also, stay away from coffee especially the black nescafee except maybe if its decaffeinated sha.

Find attached the chinese tea and horlicks.

Sorry for the late response, really tied up with work and fatigue. Thank you for your response.

I can’t remember exactly what started it but most of my early 20s was battling ulcer and anxiety disorders. Now that I can say I’ve finally beat the ulcer and most of the anxiety, sleeping disorder comes in.

Is the tea better than chamomile tea cause I’m already taking that and it doesn’t work.

Are you advising stand alone drinking water before bed or it has to be with the tea?

You over think things too much. That's one of the reasons bro. I've been in that shoe and mine lastes for over 8yrs. I had to let go of some things in my head and mind and focus on what makes me happy. I exercise, socialize and eat well, then hit my bed and sleep off. Try reduce your thinking abeg

I was caught in the web of insomnia from 2021 to date .
I visited a sleep therapist, I bought semi orthopedic foam, memory pillow, took Melatonin, Magnesium glycinate , chamomile tea, drank this drank that, took to bicycle riding in the evening after my business day, I stopped when I had muscle spasms.
I will go to bed by 8:45 pm and will wake by 12: 35 am I slept off by 9:15 pm I wake up by 1.30 am.
I became worried and anxious, just one month ago I call the worry quit, thanking God that at least I can sleep.
What do I do when I wake up between 12: 35 am or thereabout, I walk a little bit around my home, check on my children bedroom, put on my earbuds, tap on my Internet radio, to get some news ,from BBC better if there is a talk show, move into a classical music station, before I could know it I am off to sleep again.
You re not alone, worrying will make your matter worse , I experienced it.
Billions of human suffer from one sleep deprivation or the other.

I know of sleep disorders but the Op is not suffering any mental health conditions as a result of their sleep difficulty. More so, I wouldn't classify Op's case as insomnia bcoz that would be an extreme situation.

Important to note that the Op does get some sleep, but they experience poor sleep/sleep difficulty, therefore not quite alarming to necessitate immediate reliance on medication.

I can relate bro.
Is not easy at all.
I experienced it for good number of months if not year.
I couldn't figure out the cause then. Though, I lost my wife prior to the insomnia issue...
I did not know what later worked for me.
But I remembered I was engaged with a physiotherapist. Asides from daily scheduled talk time with him, he also recommended that:
-I take warm milk before bed.
- Do away with anything screen ( phone, TV and notice)
- Be on the bed at your bed time even if not feeling sleepy.
..

These are some of things I can remember.

My was terrible then that I will not sleep all through the night and not even in the afternoon.
I wish you quick recovery from this.

So many people have same issues like yours, anxiety which most times is fear of death related can cause it, thinking of your future prospective especially in a messed up country like Nigerian can cause it, that's the real depression, thinking of a loved one who died can cause it, having night attacks you can't explain can cause it by keeping you scared awake at night... there are so many factors that can cause insomnia BTW, but this are the major causatives in Nigeria, you might never have any remedy incase someone is trying to scam you with a remedy, what can only help a bit is being around people, especially those that loves you and you have same feelings for them, that's the remedy I know, just try to exercise during evening times and stick around your paddies or loved ones, little alcohol if you indulge it can help as well, I had insomnia for over 4 years!, but nowadays I sleep like a baby, suddenly everything changed.
Re: I've Been Having Insomnia For Over A Year by LadyNurladi: 7:29pm On Feb 27
Mine isthat no matter how i sleep 8 still awake up tired .You know that feeling when you just wake up from sleep and your eyes not clear that's how i always am .Doctors just cant seem to assist
blackhawk123:
I had the same issue. It started with early waking. i would sleep normally but be up by like 3-4 am wide awake. Eventually, it graduated to not beeing able to sleep on time. i won't be able to sleep until 2-3am and i would be up by 5-6 am wide awake. Sometimes if i manage to sleep early by 10-11, i will be up by 2 with my heart racing. I had palpitations in my chest, feeling of fear and anxiety and i was hypersensitive to noise. I went to the doctors (four different ones at different times) and they prescribed sleeping pills for me with therapy . I have met numerous clinical psychologists and the issue still persisted. My Full blood count was okay, my thyroid was okay too.

Eventually, i started doing some self research (I was also praying hard at this point). I discovered that deficiency in some minerals in the body can cause insomnia. So i went and did test for the following: Magnesium, vitamin d3 (cholecalciferol), ferritin (iron), vitamin b12. These are some of the core culprits when it comes to insomnia. My results came out and i was deficient in vitamin d. I bought the supplement (1000 iu) and took it for a month with no improvement. Turns out that the current recommendation to take 600ius of vitamin d per day is now outdated and humans need close to 10k ius daily. I eventually bought the 5k iu one, took it for a month and noticed i started sleeping better. I went for a test and the vitmain d had jumped from 21 to 38. i eventually stopped taking it. After a month, the whole symptoms came back. I went for test aagin and the vitamin d was deficient again. Apparently, vitamin d has a very short half life of about 15 days. what this means is that if you stop supplementation and you don't get enough, consistent sunlight, it will reduce by half every 11-15 days. So i started supplementation again. This time, i took it with co factors - Magnesium, omega 3, and k2. I was fine again.

Eventually after a while, i couldnt sleep again. I started having pins and needles sensations in my legs. I had severe palpitations. My legs would be hot or cold or numb sometimes. If i eat high carbs or starchy foods by anything past 6pm, it would worsen even though my fasting blood sugar was okay. I went for test and discovered that i was deficient in vitamin b12 this time. I bought methylcobalamin 1500mcg to supplement. I took it with pregabalin to help with the leg sensations, i also bought a multivitamin that had the B complex vitamins in it. If you're short in b12, there's a high probability you are short in other b vitamins. The full b vitamin test costs over a million naira but b12 alone costs less than 30k. After about 2-3 months of supplementation, my levels jumped back to normal and i began to sleep fine again.

People kept telling me i was overthinking and that led to my insomnia. I have entered serious trouble in the past and still slept like a baby to face the trouble the next day. I know people who are in serious trouble that can lead to their arrest but they're sleeping fine. My advice is for you to go and run a test first - test magnesium, potassium, vitamin d3, ferritin, vitamin b12, calcium, full blood count, thyroid check. These are the core culprits. When you do, you can reply to this comment and I will be able to guide you. Don't forget to pray too.

Please what time of day do you walk under the sun for 30 mins ? I also need to start that's why iam asking
blackhawk123:
Yes, it recommended to me by a clinician. The b12 deficiency temporarily affected my nerves. Pregabalin helps to quiet those effects and it was prescribed short term.

On the issue of over medication, It's not something I could help. Vitamin d has to be taken with cofactors and isn't effective alone. I have since stopped taking any vitamin d supplements since january since i am okay now. same with k2. I rely on walking in the sun for 30 minutes mondays to fridays. I am currently on b12, multivitamin, pregabalin, omega 3, magnesium. I have run kidney and liver tests and they are perfectly fine. I also make sure i hydrate properly with 3-4 bottles of water daily. Once the issue of b12 has been fully addressed, i will switch to food based sources for maintenance. Thanks for your concern.

. Our body has neurotransmitters ,homones and electrolytes. When they have some irregularities, we have chemical imbalance.

The symptoms can include insomnia ,anxiety , depression and mood changes.
The brain chemical imbalance does not kill anyone but the symptoms it generates always being worry, concern and untold anxiety.

When treated ,all the accompanied health conditions are alleviated and controlled completely.

Your problem is more of psychiatric/psychological (I learnt this from my doctor and it looks real). You can look for an experienced Psychiatrist to talk with, he may be able to point your problem to you

Lol, everyone can learn something and it would be cool if you can enlighten me as well.

I don't think a psychiatrist should concern himself or herself with a poor sleep/ sleep difficulty, especially if it's not grossly affecting the person's quality of life or mental health.

Yours is better. I had chronic insomnia for 3 years. I landed and spent days in Longing hospital, Ijaye, Lagos state from July 27th to Aug 3 2022. I went to LASUTH all to no avail. I finally landed in my home town of Ihima, Kogi state on Aug 7 2022 hoping to go and die in the village. I landed in a village church, The New Jerusalem Deliverance Church, Ageva, Okene, Kogi state, which later helped a bit despite not believing in all these church things. I was stabilised a bit there and ended spending a week in the church and about 40 days in Kogi before returning to my work at the airport at MMA2, Lagos. I was and still remain a muslim. The insomnia did not entirely go away. I was just sleeping for 3 or 4 hrs sleep. Before going to kogi it was just about 2 hrs. The insomnia became less and less as days go by until around mid last year, 2025. During those years I knew a local traditionalist at Ikola, Ogun state and at Ojuore, Ogun state which prepared some local herbs for me which I have been renewing and taking till today. I thank God I survived it and now sleep well. It remained small to have stroke in those periods. Thank God, I am okay now. I don’t wish what I went through to happen to another person. Its a terrible moment in my life. For anybody facing something similar and not mind local herbs, my whatsapp number is 08073705274
so I can lead the person to the two guys in Ikola and Okearo.
