If these rules are strictly enforced, the average nigerian driver will be paying fines almost on a daily basis.

My advice is that Don't let any policeman, lastma officer or LNSC personnel enter your even if you know you committed a traffic offense. Tell them to send you a ticket for your offense and you will pay through Lagos VIS.

If they're taking pictures of your car allow them do it. It's a scare tactic. The worst that will happen is that you will get your notification from LagVIS if you are base in Lagos and pay your fine. Don't allow any clown enter your car. They will waste your time and extort you. If they see that you know what you're doing they will let you go. It's bad business for them.

Beautiful obembet. Beautiful information.

The only one for me here is speed limiting device sad
Re: Traffic Offences And Their Penalties Under Nigerian Law by fineboynl(m):
Most police dont even know the law if they see someone without driver license they will say let go to the station or you pay 200k bribe. Many Nigerians will start negotiating with police because they are ignorant of the law. A fine of 10k to government account they might pay 50k especially if they are youth.

Another thing is to avoid police drama and bail of the vehicle at their station.

Government is losing money to corruption.

As a Nigerian ask them to book you so you can pay right there. Most of them don’t even know the website not to talk off how to operate them.

Something you can pay online right at the sport the frsc will take you to their office first do a manual booking and ask you to go to the bank. All of which is waste of time because they need the receipt.

I was even the one teaching them how to do it instantly but they still need hard copy receipts in modern time. Many people vehicles sleep their because of ignorance and lack of proper training. Reason many people will prefer to bribing them than to follow the procedures

Please note that some states have their own laws that may stipulate stricter fines. Case in point , Lagos.

On this one, enforcement is not the issue, rather the Government Agency Officials involved are the one who want to collect and pocket these fines by intimidation and scare tactics.

Thanks Tosin for this update. Some overzealous FRSC, LAST MAN or even police extort Nigerians daily. For instance failure to wear a seatbelt I was extorted 10k by FRSC officials with abeg cos he said the offence is 25,000 in their office.

I wish the National Orientation Agency can be informing Nigerians about issues like this that bothers on civic responsibilities. They should have a radio station and TV channel

It's natural to find yourself in the wrong side of the law once in a while but the Gangster approach by these officials and lack of knowledge make people to run away which sometimes ends up in accidents
Re: Traffic Offences And Their Penalties Under Nigerian Law by peteofi(m): 1:56pm On Feb 28
This is not Nigerian Traffic law. These are fines, as stipulated by FRSC. Traffic laws are exclusive to states. That's why Lagos can charge one amount for the same offence and Rivers will charge something different for that same offence. It's different for every state.

And FRSC will generate a lot of Revenue for the government leading to a better welfare package for them if only One thief thief Oga patapata at the top wouldn't steal the money like the case of the Thief thief Abdul Rasheed Maina that stole the Pension funds of Nigeria workers and used some of it to relocate his family to the US while also bought houses in the US and UAE and continuing using the rest to frolic with women and marrying more wives. .......some thieves are damn so bold..........

These penalties are very cheap
In the nineties these penalties are weighty. The Naira has so depreciated that's why it looks cheap.

Each agencies need to review their Acts and increase the penalties so as to reflect present reality.
