Once your Cocoa or Oil Palm Plantation starts fruiting, you keep up reaping your annual profit year on year for 30 to 50 years non-stop. |

Jaylord12:You are same as Op. Mechanized farmers all over Yoruba land are counting their loses as they systematically abandon their business due to insecurity and you are here deceiving yourself by throwing up objections you anticipate from readers and countering same. LoL. |

@SIsterAnn You’re not wrong that insecurity has affected many farmers across parts of the country. It’s a real challenge and something serious investors in agriculture must factor into their planning. However, there is also an important distinction between isolated small-scale farming operations and structured agricultural estates with proper management, security planning, and cluster development models. Across Nigeria today, there are still large commercial plantations operating successfully — particularly in crops like cocoa and oil palm — because they are organized differently from the traditional approach. The issue is not that agriculture cannot work; it’s that the old unstructured model is increasingly difficult to sustain. Countries like Indonesia and Malaysia built multi-billion-dollar palm oil industries by transitioning from scattered trees to professionally managed plantations. Nigeria actually pioneered palm oil exports long before them. Conversations like this are exactly why some of us are advocating for more Nigerians to start thinking about organized perennial crop investments (cocoa and oil palm) instead of leaving everything to subsistence farming. The potential is still there — what needs to change is the structure and scale of how it is done. SisterAnn: |

One thing I always tell people interested in agricultural investment: never rush into anything without inspection and verification. Visit farms. Ask questions. Understand the management structure. Agriculture works when it’s done professionally — not when it’s based on hype. WiseBizInvestor: |

WiseBizInvestor:@the potential is still there.. true. But the cost to human life is what I'm concerned about. Farming in the scale you propose still requires a large expanse of land which can only be possible at the outskirts which are largely ungoverned. It's this lapse in governance that criminal gangs explored to unleash terror on the investors and staff. This problem has contributed to the food shortages as can be seen and there's no end to the insecurity in sight. Whether it's a conglomerate or subsistence farmer, the problem they face is the same. |

When it comes to governance and discussions about our politicians, the real question is not just “Who is ruling us?” but also “What productive assets am I positioning myself to own regardless of who is in power?” |
