Hello.

How do you see Ethiopia. Is it a good place to relocate to?

Togo and gambia were my two top countries to migrate into. But someone told he wasted his time migrating to gambia, and many nairalanders said poverty is too much in Togo.
Gerrard59:
lol

I live in Japan.

So tell us why you recommended these countries for Nigerians to japa to? What is a Nigerian going to do in Northern Ireland? Azerbaijan? Macau? Luxembourg?

Abeg, you people are too funny. You recommend countries where there are few good jobs for the locals, but want Nigerians - Black Africans - to go compete with them for those jobs? How many Nigerians with a professional skill set speak good Chinese to compete with native Taiwanese for jobs?

and Botswana and Namibia? L O L

Botswana has had reduced govt earnings from diamonds, and Namibia had and still has a very high youth unemployment rate. Except the Nigerian is an oil worker transferred to work there, the average Nigerian will find it hard to get a good job in that country.

Ethiopia is a sheethole that Nigeria is way better off than. Nigeria is the wealthiest country in West Africa. Except you have remote work skills and a job already and/or you have substantial capital to establish a nascent business in a non-West African country, going to compete with the natives even when there are limited jobs doesn't make sense to me.
Re: My Candid Advice To Young Nigerians Who Want To Japa by lawani(m): 12:21pm On Mar 01
People will always travel and our parents were travelling when the country was well run. If there is an opportunity for you abroad, you must go, foreigners come here too because of opportunity but the thing is that travelling costs money and that money if invested here can also secure anyone's future. Also, there is poverty in all countries, it is just different types. If you are on food stamps, it is poverty, if you are homeless, it is poverty and etc. You can't call all that abundance. So there is no perfect country.
Ghana is exporting up to ten billion dollars worth of farm produce. RSA is exporting fifteen billion dollars worth. This means Nigeria could have been exporting fifty billion dollars worth or more. Think of how many HNIs will exist in the agric sector if that were the case. Think of other sectors that will be propped up. People leaving the country cause poverty too because if they remained they would be forced to grow the GDP but everybody can not remain.
Therefore just leave people to follow their path as what worked for you may not work for everybody

Lately, I have been seeing different threads online created solely to discourage young Nigerians from travelling abroad. One particular thing common among these posts is how the writers unrealistically make oppornities in Nigeria seem equal or even greater to those that abound in Europe, America, Canada, or Australia. That is very ridiculous. We are not blind. We know the current state of Nigeria - from epileptic power supply, hyper inflation, to monster insecurity. I saw a video where a young youth corp member was being tortured by bandits in the north as if we were living in the 1720s. Until now, the authorities and security agencies have not made any statement on it. Why would they? It is 'normal' in Nigeria.

Last year, I travelled to a state in the Niger Delta Region for a project. An entire local government area has not seen light for donkey years. In some parts of the state, people do not use electricity up to 10 minutes in a day. Then, you have remote workers in these places. You have artisans who need electricity for their business. These people spend hell on purchasing fuel, and by the end of the day, their profits cannot even make them have access to a decent life. Tomorrow, when their business crumbles, you call them 'lazy people'.

As a young Nigerian, if you have the means to travel to access better opportunities, DO NOT ALLOW anyone to discourage you. Some of these people who try to discourage you have family members abroad who have established businesses for them here. Some of them might even be living abroad, but you do not know that. Some are beneficiaries of the failed systems and institutions in Nigeria. If your country was okay, why are the children of your leaders living in developed countries? Shouldn't this country be good for them instead?

Countries that have thriving economies do not even have citizens who discourage their fellow citizens from travelling, talk more of a country that has failing systems and institutions.

How does another man's decision to travel affect your own life? The decision to travel for greener pastures, better social amenities, and guaranteed security is a personal thing, and should not give other people headache. Why you dey swallow panadol for another man headache?

You dey Nigeria dey earn 40k as a private school teacher, and you dey allow another man wey dey Sweden dey earn millions with better security and healthcare to brainwash you. You go die poor ooo! Nor go find scholarships or sell family land. Dey there.
Dem don increase 10k on top my own, it is now 50k.
Thanks for the update.
Re: My Candid Advice To Young Nigerians Who Want To Japa by Humblesam(m): 1:17pm On Mar 01
My problem is not to japa now.
That's how some of you are making it look so easy that some of the lazy ones would foolishly sell off their parents property just to japa.
But in a few months, they will be disturbing us that are here in the country to help them beg the zoo govt to come to their aid as they're almost dying.
Go but don't disturb us later on biko.
I wonder how even an illiterate and even those without craft be shouting japa up and down only to end up disgracing the country and making it hard for others going with purpose and dignity.
Japa is not for everyone, don't go and kill yourself cuz you want to be among .
I have one that did same five years back and before you know it ...it was five wasted years and back to square zero, still finding his feet now.. someone that was feeding mouths before he decided to chase the wind
May God help Nigerians.

People only seek greener pastures in high income countries. The traffic is to places with high minimum wage which does not mean there are no opportunities in other places. Ethiopia will have thousands of expatriates who work there and are able to save

You don't know what it means to leave food in your fridge /freezer and travel for months and return to see your food still preserved. Light no off for 1 day and while away you didn't think/worry about what you left at home. Until Nigeria reaches this point for the average man the country remains a joke.

That is a huge bill in electricity. In Nigeria many don't need to put anything in the fridge. I even disconnected my fridge.

Indians and Lebanese come to Nigeria to start businesses or to work in businesses owned by Indians and Lebanese or Nigerian businesses that need their expertise. And they are paid very well with expatriate perks. How many Indians and Lebanese have you seen on the road begging? These people don’t come to Naija as poor immigrants looking to work illegally to earn a living to survive.

If you don’t have a proper expatriate job or legit business, I can assure you that you are going to suffer in Abidjan. Guaranteed suffering. Ivorian people never see job finish and you think say you can go there and do what? Na ment? huh

Yes definitely but if you want to join your family member who is in business abroad whether as a Nigerian or as a Lebanese and etc, you will still need to be granted visa. It is not much different. Non Nigerians working in Nigerian civil service is extremely rare presently but there is a growing number of Nigerians working in the civil service of countries like Ghana and CotedIvoire not to talk of their private sector

Nigerians working in the civil service of Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire? As japa hustlers or senior advisers that are well paid expats? I doubt that you have ever visited Côte d’Ivoire with this okpata wey you dey yearn.

Ogbeni, I repeat. If you are a poor man in Naija looking for where to japa to hustle to earn a living, avoid Côte d’Ivoire if you no wan suffer for this world. I don talk my own.
