Nairalanders, Talk To Me About Nairaland by Seun(mod): 11:22pm On Mar 01
Hello Nairalanders,

I'm Seun, the founder of Nairaland. Talk to me about what Nairaland is like for you. What's good and what's not so good right now.

I've been more focused on the backend and working on new features. It seems as if the moderation and other issues have fallen behind.

So, talk to me. What should we focus on in order to encourage you to start being more active on Nairaland?

PS: I have people dropping me messages presuming that Nairaland is over. What's that about? huh
Re: Nairalanders, Talk To Me About Nairaland by Mattswaggz: 11:26pm On Mar 01
That your "auto ban bot" or what is it self that bans for no reason should be either re programmed or removed......a lot of people get banned for making harmless comments here and that makes it discouraging for them to keep on using Nairaland.... that's one of the problems.

Thanks. There are technical challenges that we will need to overcome. What are some measures that we can take to ease this challenge for you?
NOTE: We have started taking action on this issue by installing better debugging so we can get into the reason for the bot's mistakes.

The site has been the same since I started using it in 2010

Thanks for the update on video playing from X. Time to encourage content creators posting their videos from YouTube at least once per day instead of removing them

Time for you to start monetisation also

The expand icon should be on the far right with a different color

We need visible changes. Something fun and more serious. I think those articles that make it to the front page should be rewarded even if it's 10k. Little gift as such can go a long way.

Please seun we can’t upload pictures again because of your bots and it’s making this place boring

Banning articles with giving the reason is wrong
Re: Nairalanders, Talk To Me About Nairaland by buenos116: 11:40pm On Mar 01
You have not improved since the past 15years or so. There has been no change in UI. The site has remained the same.
You have not even managed to change the font colour. Times have evolved. But Nairaland has remained the same. Is there even an app?

And can you stop putting gross pictures of certain animals on the front page. Not everyone wants to see snakes.
Re: Nairalanders, Talk To Me About Nairaland by givedemwotowoto:
Seun, a lot has gone wrong, very wrong. The perception is that your site has been taken over by APC.

Any topic against Peter Obi or Obidients is rushed to FP. Even worse is tribal threads against Igbos. This is the part that makes me not want to keep visiting NL because these topics attract the worst of the worst.

When opposition says something against the incumbent, even when well researched, it is either delayed and pushed to FP when people are sleeping, or not pushed to FP at all. But all you have to say is “Obidients attack each other on X live streaming” or “Mr Nobody says Peter Obi Can Never Rule Nigeria” and it’s rushed to FP.

Edit: someone brought to my attention, the continued and deliberate misspelling of “Igbo” as “Ibo” which the forum should autocorrect like it does other words

melzabull:
Well said brother. Saw the thread late otherwise I would have commented on the first page

Please edit your comment to talk about the deliberate misspelling of Igbo by iyorobas, whereas when iyaroba is mispelt, it is auto corrected immediately, that's also part of the bias by the anti Igbo iyaroba moderators on this forum

We're Igbo people not 'ibo'. Our tribe is Igbo and we speak Igbo language

Been around here for more than a decade now and I'm kinda disappointed that there don't seem to be any change in the way this site looks. How about making it a little appealing in appearance? This dull green colour is too boring
The bots now also ban anyhow. Do something about it
Re: Nairalanders, Talk To Me About Nairaland by Daeveed(m): 11:41pm On Mar 01
Oga Seun. A serious UI change of Nairaland will be great improvement. I don't think there has been any facelift since I started to use Nairaland.

Try to imagine Facebook, Whatsapp or Instagram still maintaining the same look since they started

The site has undergone several transformation. So leave it just the way it is now.

Your auto ban bot is selective, can imagine if apc supporters say something like STUPID or FOOL if i say same thing i will get my comment deleted and banned.

Your moderators are tribalist.

Change the interface and let it look captivating. Most importantly, let there be plugging so that it can be monetize. If users start making money on Nairaland. You will see the impacts it will generate.
Re: Nairalanders, Talk To Me About Nairaland by TheBlessedMAN:
I am one of the writers in the Literature section of Nairaland. I am writing this to respectfully share a concern that has been on my mind for a while.

I was the first and, as far as I know, the only writer to reach 2 million views in the Literature section. (COUNTLESS, a story of sex betrayal and vengeance) . When I started writing on the platform, (back in 2017) the energy was very high. Readers were active, writers were motivated, and there was healthy competition for the top spot. It pushed many of us to give our best.

Unfortunately, things have changed.

The current treatment and support for writers is not encouraging. Many writers are losing motivation, and the strong competition that once made the Literature section lively is gradually fading away. It feels like the section is no longer receiving the attention it deserves

.
I believe the Literature section still has great potential if a few improvements are considered.

Here are some humble suggestions:

Feature outstanding stories regularly on the front page to give writers more visibility.

Bring back the monthly or quarterly awards for top-performing writers and stories.

Create pinned guides or support threads to help new writers grow and stay motivated.

Improve moderation in the Literature section to reduce spam and keep discussions quality.

Consider partnerships, contests, or reading challenges that can bring readers back and revive healthy competition.

Boss, many of us are passionate about writing and about the platform. We simply want to see the Literature section grow again and become vibrant like it used to be.

Thank you for your time and for building a platform that has helped many Nigerian writers find their voice. I sincerely hope our concerns will be considered.
Warm regards,

Re: Nairalanders, Talk To Me About Nairaland by IbeOkehie: 11:43pm On Mar 01
Your site is now painful to use, mainly because of the spam bot or whatever it is. I kept getting banned over things I don't know, there's no explanation. I figured out the word "NEGRO" is banned. That makes zero sense.

I've managed to stay away for a couple of months, I got mentioned yesterday and responded and immediately got banned.

Anyway, that's Nigeriana, it's normal. It happened at Nigeria Village Square. It happened to Nigeria itself.

I hope you read this. I did have a good time and met some interesting people.

Good Luck and Good Bye.

The bots are working too much
Re: Nairalanders, Talk To Me About Nairaland by edogu(m): 11:43pm On Mar 01
I joined Nairaland in 2009, and I can confidently say this is not the same Nairaland I once knew. It is not the platform I proudly introduced to my dad and some of my siblings. It is not the forum that I used to recommend to our students whenever I want to give them examples of online forum.

What makes it to the front page these days is quite disappointing. There was a time when informative and educative content dominated the space. That seems to be fading.

The moderators really need to step up. Some appear politically biased or otherwise, and that raises concerns about fairness. How can moderation truly be impartial when personal leanings seem to influence decisions?
