Dear Seun, thanks for taking the time to reach out to Nairalanders.

Please one request please... I really appreciate your block button, it has been extremely helpful. We only want you to either extend the duration or give us the option to choose timeframe for blocking a particular moniker.

The 3-weeks timeframe is too small. Please help look into this.

Nairaland is a pigsty.

Seun:
Hello Nairalanders,

I'm Seun, the founder of Nairaland. Talk to me about what Nairaland is like for you. What's good and what's not so good right now.

I've been more focused on the backend and working on new features. It seems as if the moderation and other issues have fallen behind.

So, talk to me. What should we focus on in order to encourage you to start being more active on Nairaland?

PS: I have people dropping me messages presuming that Nairaland is over. What's that about? huh
Re: Nairalanders, Talk To Me About Nairaland by PrinceJoeWan(m): 11:54pm On Mar 01
Like the previous comments before me, an upgrade in the UI will be greatly appreciated, the UI has been the same since I joined in 2016.
Also there's no need to rewrite the Headline or Topic before any comment, it's boring and when I was a new member I find it hard understanding where the comments starts or ends and I believe new guests are also having that difficulty too.
No matter how small you can be rewarding front page creators too even if it's 500 or 1,000 it'll go a long way to encourage members to create and share meaningful and authentic posts.
Thanks and well done thus far

There is no freedom of speech on nairaland. Let nairaland go back to the good old days where we express how we feel.

Work on the search box. We should be able to search for topics only.

Why cant people comment on muslims thread without being asked to accept one oath like that.

I want to know why such restrictions but Muslim are free to comment. Is there any reason for this
Didn't you know? Oath taking on the Islam threads was deactivated April last year.

You can now comment on Islam threads without the oath

It was even front page news

The relevant thread is below

Seun,
Instead of the "expand" option being at center bottom, why not have a "more" option after the last word in the allowable words limit, it's "more" or "see more" on most sites.
Re: Nairalanders, Talk To Me About Nairaland by MemoriesAndMe:
On the Trending Topics page, it won't be a bad idea to have a sort button to allow users sort posts with high unique replies so they can see what's really trending versus seeing random posts from same OP who posts multiple times to promote their posts.

Also, there is a "like" button, cant there be a "dislike" button as well? Nobody wants to read useless posts, and they can be identified by their number of "dislikes"

We need visible changes. Something fun and more serious. I think those articles that make it to the front page should be rewarded even if it's 10k. Little gift as such can go a long way.
I'm in total support of this 💯 percent. E no easy to write content and then the content makes it to the front page. Contributors should be rewarded. It's serves as a sort of encouragement to create more contents. I usually feel bad each time I devote my time to write quality contents and such contents make it to the front page and I don't get any reward for that. whenever I tell my sister, she laughs me to scorn. She will be like "while other are making cool cash from their contents, I'm busy doing charity work with mine". I feel so bad each time she says that. 😢

Moderation needs to up their game

One can't make a comment or express opinions without some people quoting one and being very abusive or calling one names. Especially in the politics section.

Also we seem to have a misogyny problem as well as to a lesser extent a misandry problem. So much hate for either sex. With people posting things like this gender are all harlots, this gender are all this or that.

Also one can't deactivate account, change user name or change emails. That's a big problem.

On the plus side, the block feature is very useful indeed.

Thanks

The Only major thing that brings me here is the thread, "How to make money online".

I don't understand what policy I valuated, but I could remember the last time I wanted to sell some of my domains to fellow nairalander, my post was getting deleted.

That day, I felt I needed a domain community to commit too other than Nairaland.

Make it possible for users to create their own custom sections. That way, people can have discussions on niche subjects.

Kind of like subreddits.

Your bot is giving me tough time, anytime I comment with pure honesty, I’ll get 30mins ban aren’t updating that?
Re: Nairalanders, Talk To Me About Nairaland by dahmie2013: 12:03am On Mar 02
You aren't one to listen, so it's a waste of resources. We asked you to remove the "etc" beside the Christianity section label, you did nothing. Do as you please, it is your platform afterall.
Re: Nairalanders, Talk To Me About Nairaland by Youngboss54(m): 12:04am On Mar 02
Make the ban button permanent for sanity. The current 3 weeks isn't enough and totally makes it a mockery. Someone i banned 3 weeks ago, i promise you i would still want him banned for a longer period. So give us that option if you truly want to improve on the website
Re: Nairalanders, Talk To Me About Nairaland by chasamolu: 12:04am On Mar 02
Seun. Can't we take nairaland to a next level? We can't always remain the brain of all others. We are the old school so let's get the crown already. Let me manage nairaland for 3years and see the biggest plan in Internet history.

Boss, no lies this is the most fun forum of its kind in Africa. Love it. I no fit go through a full section of my day without coming here. Kudos on that.

People complaining about the colours and whatnot no get say na the NL vibe be that. I wouldn’t touch it for anything. In fact the plainer the better. Don’t complicate the site with all these ui makeovers. If you need to try something new, do it with a new app. Leave NL how it is. That’s for ui and front end.

Where I might say you need to pay close attention to na some kind content wey dey make front page but honestly that’s kinda to be expected. Bots also go crazy sometimes but all in all, NL rocks.

Your mods sit back and permit all sorts of people denigrate muslims and Islam in the Islam section. That is a space for Muslims and I think that should be respected.

As a nairalander living outside Nigeria, nairaland is my major source of Nigeria news, which is a pro. But tell your moderator whenever they are creating polls, they should be giving three options like, yes, no, or neutral. Because many polls created does not concern many of us, and whe should be able to state 'it's none of our business'

Re: Nairalanders, Talk To Me About Nairaland by Nobody: 12:08am On Mar 02
Seun your emojis are archaic and your mods are biased. I saw a post where one mod was telling a nairalander that his post will never see the light of the day. In other words, no matter how educative his post might be, it might never reach frontpage. So it makes us wonder if there are selected few that makes it to frontpage easily. So is best you have board room discussion with them to make the place better.

I feel your stance of politics are biased and heavily influenced by the current administration. That's my opinion
Re: Nairalanders, Talk To Me About Nairaland by BlackViper: 12:11am On Mar 02
Why is nairaland suddenly no longer neutral on political and religious issues? And why does nairaland now OVER POLICE the use of basic everyday words?

Thanks. There are technical challenges that we will need to overcome. What are some measures that we can take to ease this challenge for you?

Some "contents" are hateful opinions and fake news that some overzealous mods push to the front page because they feel it will boost traffic. Not everything that is pushed to the front page is front-page worthy. I have reported several old recycled news from years ago that were posted recently and immediately pushed to the front page as recent news. They were never taken down. Infact, I had drawn the attention of security forces to one of such fake news about the killing of our military men.
