Good to know you weren't a party to bad moderation and an antigrowth spam system. It was disheartening and discouraging using or even recommending Nairaland to my friends some in the state department. The quality was way off.
Seun, I'll advise you to stop being boxed in a shell, remove the guard rails, and let's have freedom of expression but also strengthen moderation capabilities to be more humane. If you need someone on the board for the restructuring you can PM me,

Nairaland needs to be monnitized

I joined this app since 2012 and I have been dropping content and I need to be paid for that.

Hello Nairalanders,

I'm Seun, the founder of Nairaland. Talk to me about what Nairaland is like for you. What's good and what's not so good right now.

I've been more focused on the backend and working on new features. It seems as if the moderation and other issues have fallen behind.

So, talk to me. What should we focus on in order to encourage you to start being more active on Nairaland?

PS: I have people dropping me messages presuming that Nairaland is over. What's that about? huh
Your bots are on cheap weed

Dear Seun, thanks for taking the time to reach out to Nairalanders.

Please one request please... I really appreciate your block button, it has been extremely helpful. We only want you to either extend the duration or give us the option to choose timeframe for blocking a particular moniker.

The 3-weeks timeframe is too small. Please help look into this.
Thank you. Seun please take this suggestion seriously.

It may save this forum from a lot of bullshit, I understand you may not be able to control or filter other people's opinion, but allow us user to select the kind of view we will like to digest.

That non Muslim restriction on a Muslim post should be removed.

Why would one deny his or her faith in order to comment on a post.

That's the most lame thing I've ever come across in my entire life.
Oath taking before commenting on Islamic threads ended April last year.

Find a way to pay folks that bring valuable threads to the site.

Stop the overzealous, highly sensitive bots that ban folks for no reason

Thanks. There are technical challenges that we will need to overcome. What are some measures that we can take to ease this challenge for you?
Specify the reason for the ban. The specific comment and the rule it contravenes.

This will at least help people avoid a recurrence. It's super frustrating to be banned by a bot and not know why.

You think 8months on a scale of 10years is overspending time
That’s like spending 60-70hours a month
More like 2hours per day.
2 hours every day out of 24.

I have no further comments.

Mr Seun, first of all I will like to say a very big well done and kudos to you for been the founder and CEO of this platform.
Having said that, I will like to comment on the trend on this platform which seem to me not too pleasant. I noticed a lot of the members tend to discuss along tribal, religious and ethnic sentiment. Alot of bad bloods and negativity. Alot of very abusive and mayopic punches. To me this is not healthy and productive. So I would love if u can look into it and probably set a measure to deter members from this trend. It's really not healthy and civilised.

Make the ban button permanent for sanity. The current 3 weeks isn't enough and totally makes it a mockery. Someone i banned 3 weeks ago, i promise you i would still want him banned for a longer period. So give us that option if you truly want to improve on the website
If u block everybody, na only u go dey comment

You have not improved since the past 15years or so. There has been no change in UI. The site has remained the same.
You have not even managed to change the font colour. Times have evolved. But Nairaland has remained the same. Is there even an app?

And can you stop putting gross pictures of certain animals on the front page. Not everyone wants to see snakes.
@Seun

Posts containing snakes should clearly state so.

Your mods sit back and permit all sorts of people denigrate muslims and Islam in the Islam section. That is a space for Muslims and I think that should be respected.
Well, initially Seun brought in the oath on Muslim threads to meet your concerns . However that led to many christians complaining over the years that they didn't get the same courtesy ( and yeah as a Christian, a lot of the same issues happen on christian threads) , so Seun ended the oath

I think the moderators of the Islam and christian threads and boards should up their game though
Re: Nairalanders, Talk To Me About Nairaland by HenryStarlife(m):
A proper UI upgraded would be very good for a start
More anti bot spam account.
Restrictions on copied content or an icon for AI content
A more friend IU like 𝕏 and reddit having a baby.
Remove YouTube engagement post.
Add creator revenue program just like X,
Provide a cheaper and more friendly ad system for small legit business with proper moderation.
Each timeline should have a more user centered algorithm.
No AI coding
Add an encrypted message system.
I know all these are expensive but with proper investors and the big idea of becoming the next big social media in Africa, I think you got this
Warn / ban members spreading false information to trigger Tribal war.
Develop a mobile app so easy access for users
I believe Nairaland could be the next Reddit for Nigerians and other African countries.

Thank you. This should be taken very seriously if you want this forum to remain alive trust me, you don't know how effective it is for us to not hear from a particular person opinion ever again. 3 weeks is not enough for someone I choose to block not even 3 years
Re: Nairalanders, Talk To Me About Nairaland by adeiza4u(m): 12:44am On Mar 02
From my observation oga seun, your moderators are very corrupt than you know. I feel they take bribes to always push anything against Peter Obi and opposition to the front page. In summary, most of your mods are politicians, working for APC. Can't they be neutral?
Also, the website needs to be modernized. It looks old. Is it possible to have a "dislike" button?
Re: Nairalanders, Talk To Me About Nairaland by PrimadonnaO(f):

The site has undergone several transformation. So leave it just the way it is now.
@Seun.

I don't think changing the UI just for the heck of it is necessary. I'm personally okay with the UI. Why change what's working?

I personally don't need NL looking too fancy. It's fine as is. Allows low network bandwidth, too. By the time, all the fancies are included, people won't have a decent browsing experience unless they're on 5G network.

A lot of tribal eastern slurs not getting banned
But when I quote back to reply the insults I instantly get banned

That your "auto ban bot" or what is it self that bans for no reason should be either re programmed or removed......a lot of people get banned for making harmless comments here and that makes it discouraging for them to keep on using Nairaland.... that's one of the problems.
Seun, I’m not entirely sure you’ll read this, but I feel compelled to share my thoughts anyway.
I visit Nairaland almost every day, it’s still one of my go-to platforms. I’ve been a member for over 18 years now, and honestly, not much has changed since I signed up. The interface looks virtually the same as it did back then. In contrast, platforms like Facebook and X (formerly Twitter) have continuously modernized their designs, added new features, and adapted to current global standards to keep users engaged.
Nairaland remains incredibly entertaining and valuable to me, it’s a unique space for Nigerian discussions that I genuinely enjoy. That said, to make it even more appealing and encourage greater activity (including from long-time users like me), here are a few suggestions:
• A major UI/UX refresh would go a long way. The current look feels dated, and a cleaner, more modern design (mobile-responsive by default) could attract and retain more users.
• Developing an official mobile app (for Android and iOS) would be huge. Many people now browse primarily on phones, and an app would make the experience faster, more convenient, and push notifications could bring people back more often. (There are third-party apps out there, but an official one from you would build trust and add polish.)
Keep up the great work on the backend and new features, it’s good to hear you’re still investing in the platform. But pairing that with some visible frontend improvements and better mobile support would make a big difference in keeping the community vibrant and growing.
Nairaland isn’t “over” at all, it’s still very much alive and relevant. With a few updates, it could thrive even more. Thanks for listening, and thanks for building this space all these years! 🇳🇬

Improve the UI/UX.

For over a decade the User Experience has not moved anywhere near modern social platforms.

Interactivity should be top notch by now considering modern tech innovations

Better that way, why should I be digesting horrible comment for the sake of consuming information? It's not healthy at all reading a great post filled with such vile low IQ inference, not talking about difference in opinion here, but the quality of the opinion.

Haba, a lot of rubbish insight are dropped here daily for a particular purpose, I don't care why those people choose to do that, but I will prefer to block their comment out of my own reality. Some online platform doesn't even have comment section and they are surviving as just news base.

Moderators of the Health and Career section are not fully active. There are some important threads that they fail to move to front page even after calling their attention to it. Also, monetization of front page contents for the posters is not a bad idea because some people put extra efforts to prepare the contents that they post on each section. I think I have an idea to make the monetization process easier; let the criteria for being a moderator be based on the number of front page worthy post a poster has made. For example, you may say, if you have up to 20 posts that have made front page within a particular period, you would be automatically eligible to become a moderator. Then your moderators could go through some training to know more about the work culture and ethics of the forum. After that, you can put them on weekly or monthly payment with a target of post to make on a daily or periodic basis. This will make posting of contents look more original, professional, competitive and entertaining with different styles and enthusiasm because of the money involved.

Then as for the advertisement which is the soul of the forum. I suggest that there should be some sponsored adverts in form of thread and not just the usual advert banners on top of the thread section. When visiting each page, many people like me just focus on the thread section and read through the lines of each thread without looking up for advert. To be sincere with you, I cant remember the last time I have seen or glanced at any advert here on Nairaland but I am active on the pages everyday. Let the attention of advert be diverted to sponsored posts. The advertiser con choose to write the content and use some images (graphics) as illustration. Advertisers can also consult the moderators for creation of contents of sponsored post. This is another way for moderators to earn money. Let me stop here for now and allow other users to make suggestions. I hope these help.

Seun, a lot has gone wrong, very wrong. The perception is that your site has been taken over by APC.

Any topic against Peter Obi or Obidients is rushed to FP. Even worse is tribal threads against Igbos. This is the part that makes me not want to keep visiting NL because these topics attract the worst of the worst.

When opposition says something against the incumbent, even when well researched, it is either delayed and pushed to FP when people are sleeping, or not pushed to FP at all. But all you have to say is “Obidients attack each other on X live streaming” or “Mr Who Nobody Knows says Peter Obi Can Never Rule Nigeria” and it’s rushed to FP.
This is it at SEUN.
MAKE RIGHTEOUSNESS UR MOD BECAUSE HE IS THE REASON PEOPLE LIKE ME VISITS NAIRALAND .
