Can you implement a LIKE and DISLIKE button such that the LIKE button pushes a comment up while DISLIKE button pushes it down, even if the commenter came first on the thread?

That way users will be careful of what they say knowing that soon, their comment may not be found even on the second page of the thread.
How do you manage the risk of political data boys massively using the like/unlike buttons to manipulate posts and threads huh
Re: Nairalanders, Talk To Me About Nairaland by anonimi: 3:02am On Mar 02
The adverts could be better placed in the middle of threads randomly and in a targeted way that aligns with the content.

Hello Nairalanders,

I'm Seun, the founder of Nairaland. Talk to me about what Nairaland is like for you. What's good and what's not so good right now.

I've been more focused on the backend and working on new features. It seems as if the moderation and other issues have fallen behind.

So, talk to me. What should we focus on in order to encourage you to start being more active on Nairaland?

PS: I have people dropping me messages presuming that Nairaland is over. What's that about? huh
give back NL community....

You have allowed Reno Omokri or a moderator that is pro Reno Omokri to be dictating what people says about Reno, whereas Reno himself can say whatever he wants and nothing happens, and it hit front page. There was a day I commented on a topic Reno created himself, I wasn't banned by the mods or spam bot, but the following morning my post was no where to be seen in that thread. Is Reno Omokri a moderator on nairaland?

Christians swearing to before accessing Islamic section, but Muslims not swearing to engage the Christian session portrays contempt for Christians.
Re: Nairalanders, Talk To Me About Nairaland by enemyofprogress: 3:13am On Mar 02
You ban indiscriminately and unnecessarily. You coerced people from experiencing their views and opinions. I will like to advice you to please create a forum that is like a jungle where people can say whatever they like without the fear of being ban. Stop treating us like school children.

How do you allow someone to block another person, and when the blocker made a post that hits front page, the person he blocked won't be able to read it? Does it makes sense that someone will decide on what others reads on front page? Don't you know that someone, out of political or religious affiliation, tribal origin, can block people he or she doesn't like, and it will prevent the people he blocked from accessing information on nairaland front page. Why don't you make it possible for the person he blocked to read the news but he won't be able to quote or mention the person who blocked him or her. This is too primitive and nonsensical.

Actually, Seun ended swearing before accessing Islamic threads last year.

Here is the thread announcing that...on April 25th 2025.

He also announced some reforms to the religion pages as well.

Nairaland has remained my go to site for the latest news, updates and entertainment more than 15 years. While the App has been there since, navigating it via browser has been much better and easier for me.

1. Make the App user friendly

2. Add a 'Next' and 'Previous' option for easy navigation from one story to another, and the ability to swipe left or right to go to or return from one story to another.

I suppose he could...but eventually, the site would become more like 4chan, less like reddit....and that would drive off advertisers.

Every site has some stern moderation policies if they want to make money. NO advertiser would want to be associated with a site where people are so abusive in the name of allowing 'freedom of expression'...that things get out of control.

Can it be offered for sale? Not sure how much you want for it but serious buyer here.

Keep in mind, things are changing by the day.

We can take it to another level.

To the guys reading … what do you think will be a good price ?
Re: Nairalanders, Talk To Me About Nairaland by GloriousGbola:
Just as you have a feature to block posters, please expand it to block topics started by some posters
There are posters whose takes one has no interest in -

I can hide topics i dont want to see on reddit - can this be extended to FP ?

Give option to extend blocking

3 weeks
3 months
1 year

There is too much dubious ragebait on FP. while nairaland needs traffic to grow, i am sure it can be done responsibly

Fix the spambot. it is too aggressive

Provide an option where a poster in diaries can allow people to quote them - maybe by request
I would like to copy a lot of naptu's posts but i cant

alternatively expand diaries section to open quotable diaries and closed, read only diaries

increase nl emojis

allow a feature where we can close/suspend our account for a period [3weeks or more] if we find the platform is getting too much for our mental health and we need to decompress

Why can't we delete our posts on nairaland? There's a post a made some years ago that I have been asking mods to help me hide or delete and nothing has been done about it
Re: Nairalanders, Talk To Me About Nairaland by Felicity001(m): 3:37am On Mar 02
You know the problem but keep a blund mind to it.

Imagine yourself afyer taking precious and intellectual time to write a piece only for you to be ban and your article deleted, what can be more damaging than that. Do you know the strength it takes to think to write a sentence only for one moderator to ban you? That singular can discourage anyone.

This alone discourage from coming on NL like I used to.

You have not improved since the past 15years or so. There has been no change in UI. The site has remained the same.
You have not even managed to change the font colour. Times have evolved. But Nairaland has remained the same. Is there even an app?

And can you stop putting gross pictures of certain animals on the front page. Not everyone wants to see snakes.
If you don't want to see snake, stop clicking on topics that relates to it.

Your website is too dull. Also, You allow so much tribalism to ruin site. Too much use of bots. This used to be a more interactive platform but not anymore.

Issues:
1. The rate of internet bullying is high
2. Tribal fights are high too
3. No room to express dislike to a comment
4. No room for private message
Recommendations:
1. Be strict with online bullies
2. Discourage tribal comments
3. Create a dislike button for dislikes
4. Create a private message link just like Facebook and others
5. You could make nairaland an app if possible.

Seun, a lot has gone wrong, very wrong. The perception is that your site has been taken over by APC.

Any topic against Peter Obi or Obidients is rushed to FP. Even worse is tribal threads against Igbos. This is the part that makes me not want to keep visiting NL because these topics attract the worst of the worst.

When opposition says something against the incumbent, even when well researched, it is either delayed and pushed to FP when people are sleeping, or not pushed to FP at all. But all you have to say is “Obidients attack each other on X live streaming” or “Mr Nobody says Peter Obi Can Never Rule Nigeria” and it’s rushed to FP.
I can attest to this. Nairaland has not been the same since the election that brought Buhari into power.

let there be voice features in it. Stop banning unnecessarily on little offence. Your mods are bias when it comes to ban. Stop tribalism comment. Don't even allow it to show when it is tribalism comment.
