Hello Nairalanders,

I'm Seun, the founder of Nairaland. Talk to me about what Nairaland is like for you. What's good and what's not so good right now.

I've been more focused on the backend and working on new features. It seems as if the moderation and other issues have fallen behind.

So, talk to me. What should we focus on in order to encourage you to start being more active on Nairaland?

PS: I have people dropping me messages presuming that Nairaland is over. What's that about? huh
There you be like a customer service mail or Whatsapp contact that's responsive. The mods are slow to response.
There's a guy impersonating my username @yemiike, he's a fraud and I've mailed the mods severally about it but zero response. It got to a point where I wanted to deactivate this account. Things like this is really frustrating.
Re: Nairalanders, Talk To Me About Nairaland by seunmsg(m): 6:22am On Mar 02
Dear Seun, your forum became very popular in the early because years because it was able to attract millennials who were intrigued by the idea of expressing themselves openly on an anonymous forum. Those millennials are now married and struggling with mid life crisis. Majority can no longer keep up with the forum.

Sadly, the forum has failed to attract Gen-Zs. Unlike millennials, these guys are not intrigued by the idea of posting on an anonymous forum. They were in the internet age and they grew up with using so many social media platforms. YouTube, Instagram, Twitter and Facebook all saw the problem and they all decided to monetize content creation. That is how they were able to attract and keep Gen-Zs. It’s time Nairaland starts monetizing content creation. If not, the forum may not survive the next 10 years.

On moderation, the bot is doing just fine. Yes, it can be better programmed to perform better. But overall, it has brought sanity to the forum. Don’t listen to those telling you to remove it.

Again, please don’t listen to those claiming to be political victims of the forum. Some people just like to claim to be victim but what they want is a total domination of the forum without any room for opposing views. Two of the moderators of the politics section who can push topics to the home page are supporters of Peter Obi. Still, they are the ones trying to tell you the forum is biased towards APC. So, what do they really want? All three moderators to be obidients? That must not happen. If possible, please develop an AI that can push threads to home page. That way, human bias will be removed from the process.

Finally, it’s create to create and deploy a Nairaland AI. Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp etc all have one. Searching for anything on the forum is just horrible. You can never get a near accurate result of what you’re looking for. With a Nairaland AI, the searching experience will be very improved.
Re: Nairalanders, Talk To Me About Nairaland by DadaEleniyan: 6:23am On Mar 02
Nairaland is now perceived to be hijacked by the Igbos who use it as a medium to vent their frustration and resentment towards other tribes. This isn’t good for your platform’s reputation as even moderators cannot be trusted.

Why not automate your moderation with AI and review some subject categories, replacing them with modern subjects that add more value to Nigerians.

Also, please if you ever consider selling the platform someday by any chance, kindly let me know. Nairaland can be used more to project our knowledge, showcase our greatness and attract the outside world to Nigeria.

Your bots (Anti-spam Bots) are so wicked.

The bots will most likely take down this comment too

Seun anytime you ask for our need on update on this nairaland , you will likely pick on the one which seems easier for you to implement it's understandable, make it earnable.

That your "auto ban bot" or what is it self that bans for no reason should be either re programmed or removed......a lot of people get banned for making harmless comments here and that makes it discouraging for them to keep on using Nairaland.... that's one of the problems.
Seun..

As you can see,, it's not only me that is complaining about that wicked virus you called Anti-Spam Bot.

The verification bot stuff is a big headache for me. Sometimes it takes a whole day before it verifies I'm human. The widget stuff keep rolling and rolling. Its being so annoying and frustrating.
Kindly look into it before it starts making people to loose interest in nairaland

Thanks for the update on video playing from X. Time to encourage content creators posting their videos from YouTube at least once per day instead of removing them

Time for you to start monetisation also
Seun..

Please allow direct Video Playing from Facebook and Instagram too.,

It is good you did it for X and Tiktok.
Do same for Facebook and Instagram too

Good day sir, please focus more on good news, more on good news. Technology advancement, foreign direct investment and lots more. The bad news has a way of discouraging users. Thank you sir
Re: Nairalanders, Talk To Me About Nairaland by aswani(m): 6:34am On Mar 02
You must do something about Obidients and their flagrant disregard for (simple enough) things like common courtesy, the truth, civility and acceptance of other people's opinion to name a few.

The block button is only a temporary respite, I don't use it as matter of principle for that reason.

Elections are coming next year and jungle drums are already beating, please consider temporary stopping creation of accounts or at least not activating new ones for a month to dissuade or at least lesson the nonsense that is about to befall the Nairaland community from said Obidients.

I know it's hard work running this site and kudos to you for keeping it going all this while, however, until you grab hold of Obidients and make them conform to decent, minimal human interactive behaviour, Nairaland will continue to be a cesspit of sorts and I fully apologise for using that term.

We are in 2026 and are still reading people typing "stolen mandate", "mandate thief" and "drug lord" to name a few. You can and should do better regarding such.

Once more, thanks for the website, warts and all.

you have made the investment section so useless.. the currency exchange thread is now dead because when person post, the next thing is ban and what you posted will be deleted

Please upgrade the UI. The same thing since you started NL in 2007. You are lucky this site has not died just because someone else doesn't have the foresight to open something more visually appealing.

Seun, I commend your initiative to found this wonderful platform, and I can tell you, you are doing great. Hardly a hour will pass without me check nairaland.com for updates, you are doing great 👍 job.

On what to improve, many people are talking on UI, it nice but if it's not going to make the site heavy to open, one of yhe thing i like about NL is, it can open with little level of network available. Always open NL if it's my data I have issue with or the other site I want to open because I know NL will always open.

Auto bot ban can be check as well.

Maybe you can Education section and active that will be giving admission information of schools or career talk. Apart people writing their article in the section.

You can let section Like entrepreneurs, business, marriage, career, loan access, travelling have weekly or monthly special and professional update, most of these sections doesn't have new updates .

NAIRALAND IS NOT OVER AND WILL NEVER BE OVER

That said, my own issue is that I noticed bias.
1. Once one criticises tinubu the next thing ban, A pointer to the political or ethnic affiliation of NAIRALAND. However, I can't stop. He is very dull for a president.
2. Some topics that don't pass any yardstick no matter how low the echelon make front page.
3. From activities of NAIRALAND it seems some topics are sponsored and they make front page even if it is obvious that the claim is not true.
4. NAIRALAND debate is regrettably gone.
5. Your auto ban bot too do.

I want to be a moderator. How can we monetize Nairaland just like TikTok, twitch and YouTube. This will make Nairaland more famous. Payment for adverts should be less stressful. I have been on Nairaland since 2007. 19 years. This is my phone no for more advice 0803 460 9669

Above all, Mr Seun Osewa. I want to commend you for creating nairaland. It’s a website platform I m addicted to every hour. Also keep up the good work by ensuring moderators keep banning those with tribal sentiments, people who continuously abuse any government of the day tribe all the time and generalize ethnic affiliation. Let them not turn this platform to tribal war platform. I love all tribes in Nigeria.

Thank you Mr Seun. I love your feedback . God bless you. You are doing well.

Dear Seun
Don't listen to everyone, too many ideas will make you loose it.

This is a forum, not a social media site, it should be kept as easy as possible.

Front page articles should be informative and educative, and should be on at least page 2 to avoid spamming.

We should be able to remove personal information like phone numbers even after it has been quoted by another user..a simple google search of the phone number brings the person directly to Nairaland, that’s not enough privacy and one can be victimized.

PS: I have people dropping me messages presuming that Nairaland is over. What's that about? huh
We should be able to remove our private informations even after it has been quoted by others as this is a public forum and a Random search of the phone number can lead anyone to the information of the person.

Kindly monitised the forum in such a way that will reward real or positive influential contributions with stipend that can be cash out once in a year.

Create a philanthropy section in the forum where people who are in need of help seek for it. If ordinary contents creators and other social Media platforms can use their limited spaces to fundraising for people in medical needs, scholarship, hospitalities, businesses, and helping hand to the less privilege and poor people in the country, i wonder why Nairaland with very much influencial members and politicians cannot do the same.

Also, create a public feed back section where people express their concerns about happenings in their areas. The section will also allow feedback on government projects going on their communities and where they need help from the government.

These are the important ways your forum can help tr larger societies.

Other social media site, people earn money from their posts, specially when they drop original content. I've been wondering if Nairaland can ever be like that, or you deliberately made it not to be like that? 🤔
Re: Nairalanders, Talk To Me About Nairaland by FutureFocus: 7:04am On Mar 02
I’ve been a Nairaland inception from inception from the time of Hi5 and NaijaPal, NotJustOkay.com, like every other platform

For me the platform just need find a way to engage the current campus generation , they are the future of this forum , I mean the youth of nowadays who now do things differently ( the GenZ , create a section for them

The answer you are looking for is with them

Send survey group on campuses to find out the alternative ones they are using and create a section / link / Gateway to that section, I don’t know what will work but we just need to find to involve them.

But for me, I like the forum for its simplicity like quota and Reddit , you may need to explore them and look out for more technical features

Thanks Oga Seun

Fine Seun.
My own point is this - Why do I need a VPN to access the Nairaland website.
Without VPN, whenever I want to access the website, it will begin an endless security check. It'll keep rolling and re-rolling unstop, until I use VPN
