Tony Elumelu with his friend during his NYSC days in Sokoto, 1985, a fresh graduate without employment yet.

After his NYSC, he was unsure about the next steps but he believed that wherever he finds himself he would always stand out through hard work and resilience.

A few years later, after his Masters, Tony Elumelu saw an application for graduates with a minimum of 2:1 in All States Trust Bank, this aligned with what he wanted for his life, but his 2:2 grade did not make him qualified, still, he applied, because he knew what he wanted in life and was going to work towards it.

He had always admired the banking profession. Tony Elumelu loved that the guys in the profession were always impeccably dressed and wanted to look like them. He then put in the application and said “Even though I do not meet these requirements if you give me the chance, I will prove myself. I got the job and spent every day proving myself and earning my luck in the bank."

I don't know what you're going through now or what you've gone through but you have the power and choice to overcome it. Don't let anything stop you from realizing your dreams. The world needs you.

Today, Tony Elumelu is a source of elevation and inspiration for many in Nigeria and beyond.

Is it that in those days, corp members were protected? I know since 2008, violent mobs have attacked corp members in bids to frustrate the government and spread fear.
