This is a good development. The next area of review in revenue drive is the Executive Order signed by the President. When finally operational it will generate massive income for the nation. |

VAT is hitting record amounts. Revenue is exceeding targets. The subsidy is gone. There’s supposedly more money. Yet hospitals are comatose. Projects are stalled. In fact, in 2025, a single private individual funded Nigerian hospitals more than the federal government did. Nigerians are asking: Where's the money, where is the subsidy savings? Where is the revenue? Instead of answers, his hoardes of supporters say, 'Ask your state governor and local government chairman.' Funny. When Tinubu was criticizing the Goodluck Jonathan administration, did anyone tell him to go and ask state governors and local government chairman? Or does accountability only flow downward when it’s convenient? |

saintopus:Generates massive income for the looters we hail as leaders, you mean ![]() Why are you not focused on generating massive improvement in government services and public utilities, provided by well paid civil servants? Services and utilities like free education for all children and water supply to all households. If you are not EXPECTING these improvements, does it mean that you expect all your taxes to be stolen? |

Ofunaofu:If you didnt tell them to ask their state governors then, that is your cup of tea Do you Nigerians read at all.?...did you read this part of the news ..."Under the new structure, 10 per cent of net VAT goes to the Federal Government, 55 per cent to state governments, and 35 per cent to Local Governments". With that sharing formular, who shoulf people hold more accountable if not governors and LG chairmen who take 90% of the money. You will leave your own state governor and start shouting Tinubu because of politics, nepotism and religion bigotry! Nigerians dont really want development, they just want somebody of their ethnic or religion extraction to be president.Simple! |

I thought wailers said the new tax reform law has been suspended. States that generates more consumption gets more VAT revenue. As states keep getting more funds, it's left to you to hold your Governors to account or you continue barking at the wrong tree in Abuja. |

saintopus:There is nothing to celebrate about dipping filthy hands into the pockets of people to steal from them in the guise of 'Taxes'.. Oil prices just went up, that is more looting opportunity for your politicians, yet they are insatiable. Most Oil rich Gulf states do not dip their hand into the pockets of their citizens in the guise of taxes. Dubai and Saudi are tax-free havens. |

I kept saying it people should go and hold their state government accountable because Tinubu s given them enough money to build thr state and local govt. No senator under Tinubu in Nigeria that get nothing less than N1.5Billion for constituency project compare to N300million given to them during Buhari so what have the done with the Nbillion? If senators can get these much imagine how much each state goveermor receiving yet many of them done nothing and cry cry babies comes here to be insulting Tinubu. |

Nlo benefits for the masses especially in Lagos state. With all these money allocated to Lagos state, you will still think the state is starved with money, every where is a revenue point. They put speed limit cameras everywhere, any small offence you will be asked to pay 50k , 20k. The Nurtw and Keke union are the worst, they pay a lot of money for bookings and passengers loading mostly in cash, can the government publish the revenue the state generate from commercial transporters. It's like the nurtw members eat a larger chunk of the money, they keep marrying more wives, buying gold, keep partying, keep oppressing the youths, keep dating many girlfriends. Am not saying government should not generate revenue from transporters but it should be transparent and properly accountable. The worse are the local government chairmen, how can a local government chairman somewhere in isolo buy himself a lexus SUV lx 600. What did he want to use it for, why can't he buy highlander. |

Applaud! - ₦1 trillion+ generated from VAT — it shows the strength and contribution of the people. Now imagine if it were properly utilised for the benefit of taxpayers: Improved power supply, better roads, healthcare, education, and real development. Sadly, it ends up enriching a few in power instead of serving the taxpayers who made it possible. ryloy: |

I believe there is more money for states to spend. Federal government must ensure that these monies given to states and councils are judiciously used. Citizens must also turn their attention to state government. Minimum wage must be paid not on adjustment method but on relevant calculate matrix. States should begin to implement viable projects that are people oriented. We should begin to invest more on electricity generation and distribution, good housing, health care, quality education, portable water, good road network, etc. God bless Nigeria and may He send us good leaders. Amen! josielewa: |

ryloy:It’s fascinating how confidently you accuse others of “reasoning upside down” while completely misunderstanding basic revenue allocation. You think that each state government get 55 percent and each Local government gets 35 percent No, each state does not receive 55% of VAT, and no, each local government does not receive 35 percent. That 55 percent is shared among all 36 states, and the 35 percent is shared among all 774 local governments and it is distributed via 50 perfect equality, 30 percent derivation (consumption), and 20 percent population. Before attempting to correct me, you might want to correct your arithmetic first |

No good hospitals, civil servants and teachers are paid crumbs, our service men are not well paid, no welfare housing for the poor, just politicians getting richer and political campaigns and operations being the only corridor for youths to participate in the largese, this is why the politics is getting more violent...what a shame. We need a better political class. |

Dalohad:The trick behind taxes is to force more people to be like you...paying attention to the government and restricting their ability to steal Oil prices just went up, that is more looting opportunity for your politicians, yet they are insatiable. The amount of oil we produce cannot generate enough revenue for a nation our size....which is why we need to vote a government that would make us more productive, not this APC government that shares money. Most Oil rich Gulf states do not dip their hand into the pockets of their citizens in the guise of taxes. That's because they can afford to. Saudi produces 10 million bpd and has 40 million people. UAE produces 2.3 million bpd and has 12-15 million people. Nigeria produces 1.5-8 million bpd and has 230 million people For us to afford the kind of lifestyle the Saudis live, we would need oil to be around 150 dollars or more per month. If we tried it on the revenue we have now, we would be dead broke...as in no money in the treasury, nothing...before six months are up, plus Nigerian debt would be triple or even ten times what it is right now. You go scream Again, the best thing for Nigeria would be a government that not only fights corruption BUT makes us less dependent on oil and more dependent on exporting manufactured goods and services. Simple and precise. Better to strive to be a Japan than a Saudi. |

Rayjnr:Lol, I think I understand why the oil rich states are trying to be alone.. Make dem use oil money of states with fewer unemployed people to pay the region with most unemployed people?? You didn’t even say taxpayers’ money, na oil money you target. Try to re examine things before submitting your post |
| Re: Tax Law: VAT Hits Record ₦1 Trillion As New Sharing Era Begins by nairalanda1(m): 9:47am On Mar 04 |
dederocs:Good so vote in a government that would tax more of the gdp and develop an economy based on manufactured goods and services. (It's not APC by the way) Trying to do all you have said , assuming there is zero corruption, would still force us to borrow and borrow more to meet goals...and leave us with even more hefty debts to service |
| Re: Tax Law: VAT Hits Record ₦1 Trillion As New Sharing Era Begins by nairalanda1(m): 9:50am On Mar 04 |
Rayjnr:If you want a social security net, then you have to pay taxes at very high rates for it...all of us, including farmers and beggars. A social security net based on oil earning that cannot pass 100 billion dollars..annually....for 230 million people is basically asking for the government to borrow even more and more money. You know how that would end. |
