PDP Dundees will not call this one Oluwole data, it suits their sentiments very well. Crude oil represents 80.29 percent of total exports in Q2. If the World stop buying oil, we are doomed. 2 Likes |

Nigeria record trade deficit and not federal government. The figures represents the country’s total import and export trade volume and not Federal government’s trade figures. Our media houses really need to learn how to report news accurately. 3 Likes |

According to the report, total merchandise trade during the period stood at 12.03tn, indicating a N2.27tn or 23.28 per cent increased when compared to the amount recorded in Q1 2021. That's the problem...we are importing more than we are exporting. Which is what many nations whose exports is just raw materials do...the value of their imports exceeds their exports... That is why we must stop relying on just exporting raw materrials. 3 Likes |

Modrov: The report read, “During quarter2, 2021 the total merchandise trade stood at N12,029tn representing 23.28 per cent increase over the value (N9.75tn) recorded in Q1,2021 and 88.71 per cent increase compared to Q2,2020. We actually recorded huge increase in our export volume during the quarter even though the increase was fueled by crude oil export. Our inability to produce items that other countries require is still a huge problem and it’s very obvious from this report. We need to do better in our diversification drive. We can’t keep relying on crude oil forever. Agriculture, manufacturing, IT (fintech) are areas government need to keep working on. Hopefully, Dangote refineries will come on board fully next year. Once we stop importing fuel, our trade import and deficit will reduce significantly. 2 Likes 1 Share |

rave409: This is not about looting but trade. We are simply not exporting anything of significance other than crude oil and we are also importing refined petroleum product too much. We need to get more productive and consume less of imported products if we want a better balance of trade. 2 Likes 1 Share |

This data is wrong ? It does not capture Buhari govt biggest import which is Islamic Terrorism !!! Add that and we might see a bigger deficit |
Re: FG Record ₦1.87 Trillion Trade Deficit In Q2 - NBS by Nobody: 5:18pm On Sep 04, 2021 |
seunmsg: That's the problem, we can't just keep on relying on crude oil. Plus, it has been six years, and nothing has been done about fixing the manufacturing problem. Sorry to be nitpickish, but that is what your Party promised Nigerians. Diversification. Either way, Nigeria, and this is the main issue I have, needs to stop relying on oil. We don't control the oil price, and it is not at a level that can sustain us most of the time. |
