I think some or most of Nigerians have believed in a lie that they must always lead or at least be part of a bad statistics that even when things are getting better, their minds cannot grasp the news

That Senegal has one of the laziest population I have ever seen!

They are very lazy, yet the government borrows money and throw stipends at them as if they were rich like Switzerland.

What they used the debt to do would be well worth it compared to debt borrowed by Nigerian government. Nigerian debt doesn't translate to development, especially when it comes to curbing inflation, job availability, production, health care, education, security and social welfare.

Nobody said we should celebrate being on the list. The point is that we also shouldn’t automatically celebrate being off it without understanding the metric used.

Debt to GDP is just one indicator. What really matters is revenue strength, debt servicing capacity, and how productively borrowed funds are used. A country can have lower debt to GDP and still struggle if its revenue is weak. Its all about context not negativity.
Serious countries analyse data, they don’t cheer or boo headlines.

Nigeria not being on this list might make some people happy and they know themselves, but it doesn’t automatically mean we are doing great.

Debt to GDP simply compares what a country owes to the size of its economy. Even if we’re not among the top 10, what really matters is: Can we comfortably pay our debts without struggling?

If a country earns little but borrows a lot, repayment becomes stressful even if it’s not on a “most indebted” list.
So instead of celebrating or arguing politics, the real question should be:
Are we growing the economy? Are we earning enough revenue? Is the borrowed money improving people’s lives?

That’s what truly matters.
